Georgia football the favorite to land 4-star Athens WR Deion Colzie?

Georgia Bulldogs appear to be the leader for 4-star Athens WR Deion Colzie.

In March, four-star 2021 wide receiver Deion Colzie, out of Athens Academy in Athens, Georgia, decommitted from Notre Dame and reopened his recruitment.

Though Kirby Smart and the UGA coaching staff cannot recruit Colzie in person for the time being, it sounds as though Georgia is doing everything right in order to land the 6-foot-4-inch local prospect.

Per 247Sports, Georgia has become the crystal ball favorite to land Colzie. Four out of the six favor of the Bulldogs on Colzie’s 247Sports profile page. Notre Dame has the other two.

Colzie ranks as the nation’s No. 46 overall prospect and as the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2021 class.

I would be shocked if Georgia was unable to secure a commitment from a local kid with that much talent.

4-star WR from Athens, Georgia decommits from Notre Dame

Deion Colzie, a 4-star WR from Athens, Georgia, has decommitted from Notre Dame. Is he going to give UGA football a closer look?

Are Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs about to flip a local prospect?

On Friday, 2021 4-star wide receiver Deion Colzie, out of Athens Academy in Athens, Georgia, announced on Twitter that he is decommitting from Notre Dame and reopening his recruitment.

Colzie, who ranks as the nation’s No. 46 overall prospect and the No. 5 ranked receiver, stands 6-4 and weighs 195 pounds.

Colzie tweeted on Friday:

“I want to take the time and thank the University of Notre Dame for trusting in me and giving me an opportunity to continue my academic and athletic career. Secondly, I want to thank God and my family for the unbelievable support in this process. This was not an easy decision, and there were lots of thoughts and prayers that went into this decision. With that being said, I will be decommitting from the University of Notre Dame and re-opening my recruitment. No interviews please!”

In addition to Notre Dame, Colzie has received scholarship offers from Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Duke and Georgia Tech.

On Thursday night, Colzie called Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly to tell him that he is decommitting from the program.

“This has been weighing on me for about three weeks, so I called coach Kelly and decommitted, Colzie told recruiting analyst Chad Simmons of Rivals. “It was not easy to do, but it was something I needed to do. It is the best decision for me.

Colzie visited Georgia just a few weeks ago, and according to Simmons the Dawgs have not taken their foot off the gas when it comes to his recruitment.

Shocker – Star ’21 Receiver De-Commits from Notre Dame

Four stars or five, who cares?  Colzie is one of the very best receivers in the nation in this 2021 recruiting class. This loss is a massive one as talents like it simply don’t come around.

This one stings, Notre Dame fans.

Top-100 recruit and one of the stars of the 2021 recruiting class has de-committed from Notre Dame as Deion Colzie of Athens, Georgia has reopened his recruiting.

Colzie, a four-star recruit per 247Sports rankings was also slotted as the third-best receiver in the 2021 class, nationally.  He made the announcement Friday afternoon on his Twitter page.

Colzie doesn’t say that he won’t consider Notre Dame as he re-opens things but obviously the chances of that are low.

Four stars or five, who cares?  Colzie is one of the very best receivers in the nation in this 2021 recruiting class. This loss is a massive one as talents like it simply don’t come around.

Notre Dame’s 2021 class is seen as one of the best nationally, at least in the early stages.  This de-commit brings the total commitments down to six for Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish.

If there is good news it’s that there is time to put efforts into a replacement, the bad news is obvious, that they’re simply aren’t many talents quite like his to pursue.

What was supposed to be a massive recruiting weekend for Notre Dame before cancellations in recruiting due to Coronavirus has instead gotten off to a brutal start with the Colzie news.
