Player grades: Pascal Siakam leads Raptors to comeback win over Sixers

Pascal Siakam and the Toronto Raptors were able to complete a comeback win to knock off the Philadelphia 76ers on the road.

The Philadelphia 76ers were looking to build some momentum at home as they continued the 3-game homestand on Sunday against the rival Toronto Raptors. The Sixers have been a little up and down recently, but after a solid win on Friday, they had a chance to continue to grow as a team.

They were able to build a 16-point lead in the first half as they were able to move the ball and get a good offensive rhythm out there, but the Raptors were able to rally and they ended up taking a 3-point lead at halftime. After a back and forth second half, the Raptors were able to scratch and claw their way to a 93-88 win over the Sixers in Philadelphia despite not having Fred VanVleet. Pascal Siakam led Toronto with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists while Precious Achiuwa had 21 points and nine rebounds.

The Sixers were led by Joel Embiid with 21 points and 13 rebounds, James Harden had 17 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists, Tyrese Maxey added 19 points, and Matisse Thybulle had 12. Georges Niang hopped off the bench and had 11 points as well while Tobias Harris had five points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Here are the player grades following a tough loss at home:

Player grades: Joel Embiid leads Sixers past Luka Doncic, Mavericks

Joel Embiid has himself a big night to lead the Philadelphia 76ers past the Dallas Mavericks at home on Friday.

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers returned home to host the Dallas Mavericks on Friday to begin a 3-game homestand looking to build momentum going forward. They entered the night just 19-15 at home so this was an opportunity to build something at home and get on track at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Mavericks, led by superstar Luka Doncic, gave the Sixers all they could handle early as they were getting contributions from Jalen Brunson and others in order to take an early lead, but the Sixers were able to get it together and come away with a 111-101 victory over the Mavs. The Sixers held Doncic to 5-for-20 shooting and 2-for-10 from deep for his 17 points.

Joel Embiid had himself another big night as he had 32 points and eight rebounds to lead the way for the Sixers, James Harden had 24, seven rebounds, and 13 assists, Tobias Harris had 14, Tyrese Maxey added eight, and Matisse Thybulle chipped in with 10 points and two steals. Georges Niang added 12 and DeAndre Jordan had eight points and seven rebounds.

Player grades: Joel Embiid carries Sixers to road win over Cavaliers

Joel Embiid has another big game to carry the Philadelphia 76ers over the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road.

The Philadelphia 76ers hit the road on Wednesday to take on the shorthanded Cleveland Cavaliers looking to bounce back from a loss at home on Monday. The Cavs offered an opportunity to do so with Cleveland missing All-Star big man Jarrett Allen and in the early going, the Sixers were able to do so.

Philadelphia built up a 17-point lead as they were getting big performances out of everybody, but the ball movement was not as crisp after halftime and they saw the lead slip away before they rallied in the fourth quarter to earn a 118-114 win on the road. The win clinches the season series for the Sixers as they now have won the first three matchups between the two teams.

Joel Embiid was terrific as he led the Sixers with 35 points, 17 rebounds, and five assists, James Harden added 21 points and 11 assists, Tobias Harris added 19 points and six rebounds, Tyrese Maxey had 25, and Danny Green added six off the bench.

Here are the player grades after a hard-fought win in The Land:

Doc Rivers assesses the play of DeAndre Jordan for Sixers off the bench

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers assesses the play of DeAndre Jordan off the team’s bench.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers needed a big man off their bench to back up Joel Embiid, so it makes sense why they signed DeAndre Jordan off the buyout market.

However, the minutes from Jordan haven’t exactly been great.

It’s clear that the 14-year veteran is not the player he once was when he was an All-Star and a member of the All-NBA first team. On the floor, he struggles in some moments, and the minutes without Joel Embiid in Monday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets were did not go well.

However, coach Doc Rivers likes the play of Jordan off the bench despite the results so far.

“He’s been great, overall,” said Rivers. “I think today (Monday) he struggled a little bit, but he’s the one roller on our team. He gets downhill. He sprints the floor and that’s so important for our team. He’s been really good. He’s really bought into what we’re trying to do.”

Jordan’s minutes with Harden have been especially tough as the Sixers have had a hard time getting anything going on either end.

The issue isn’t that Jordan is on the roster. He can still do some good things for Philadelphia even just as a veteran in the locker room. The potential problem is that Rivers will continue going to him as if he is the answer to all of their problems at the backup center spot.

With 15 games left before the playoffs, roles and production can still change within the rotation.

“We like what we’re doing rotationally right now,” said Rivers. “That doesn’t mean it can’t change. This is the good thing or bad thing, I don’t how you wanna look at it about our team, is we have 11 guys that can play. That’s a good thing. Will all 11 play? Probably not, but it gives us an opportunity to make changes when we need to.”

Rivers will have to continue how to assess this team and how he can work Jordan into the rotation.

“We can go with the bigger lineup with DJ or we can go small lineup with Tobias (Harris) and Georges (Niang) and James,” he finished. “It gives us great flexibility. The bad part about it is we don’t have a lot of time. We’re not just gonna do it just to do it to get ready. We have practice days and shootarounds that we’ll work on stuff.”

Player grades: Nikola Jokic leads Nuggets past Joel Embiid, Sixers

Nikola Jokic had a big game to lead the Denver Nuggets past Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers on the road on Monday.

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers were looking to build off an overtime win on the road on Sunday when they returned home to host reigning league MVP Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. It has been a couple of years since Jokic and Joel Embiid matched up and all eyes were on that matchup.

Embiid and Jokic went at it all night long and the crowd was really amped up and involved in this one early that it allowed the Sixers to build a lead as large as 19. The ball was whipping around and they were in control. Jokic then led a spirited comeback for the Nuggets as they were able to take the lead and eventually earn a 114-110 win on the road. Jokic had 22 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists while Bones Hyland had 21 off the bench for Denver.

Embiid led the way with 34 points and nine rebounds, James Harden had 24 points, nine rebounds, and 11 assists, Tobias Harris had 10 points and six rebounds, Matisse Thybulle had nine and six steals, and Tyrese Maxey added 19.

Player grades: Joel Embiid, Sixers rally from 17 down to knock off Magic

Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers complete a rally from 17 points down to knock off the Orlando Magic on the road.

The Philadelphia 76ers were looking to bounce back from a bad home loss on Thursday when they hit the road to take on the pesky Orlando Magic. The Sixers were also looking to complete the season sweep of the Magic and it seemed like the perfect game to be able to get back in the right direction, especially with two days off.

However, this one continued a recent troubling trend for Philadelphia as they found themselves getting off to another slow start. This one saw the Magic open up a 17-point lead in the first half and they looked like they were in control. It wasn’t until the third quarter when Joel Embiid and the Sixers kicked it into high gear and they rallied to win in Orlando 116-114 in overtime.

Embiid led Philadelphia with 35 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists, Tobias Harris was big in overtime and had 26 points and nine rebounds, James Harden struggled shooting the ball at 5-for-19 for 26 points with six rebounds and six assists, and Tyrese Maxey added nine points. Georges Niang did add 16 points off the bench as well.

Here are the player grades following the comeback win:

Player grades: Kevin Durant leads Nets rout of Sixers in Ben Simmons’ return

Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets rout the Philadelphia 76ers in the return of Ben Simmons.

PHILADELPHIA–The energy inside the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday was electric. It was a big matchup as the Philadelphia 76ers were set to take on the Brooklyn Nets in a battle that featured two title contenders in the East, a ton of star power, and the return of Ben Simmons.

While the Sixers fans let Simmons know they are displeased with him before the game, the Nets let their game do the talking. They led wire-to-wire, led by as many as 35, and went on to rout the Sixers 129-100. Kevin Durant led Brooklyn with 25 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists as he made it look so easy all night.

Joel Embiid led Philadelphia with 27 points and 12 rebounds, Tobias Harris had 16 points, James Harden struggled on the night shooting just 3-for-17 and had 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists. DeAndre Jordan had 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

Here are the player grades following the loss for Philadelphia:

DeAndre Jordan reflects on his time with the Lakers

DeAndre Jordan gave his thoughts on his time with the Lakers just days after signing with his new team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

When the Los Angeles Lakers signed veteran center DeAndre Jordan last summer, they thought they were getting a solid center who would defend, rebound and occasionally get an easy basket or two.

It didn’t work out. At age 33, he clearly isn’t what he was just five years ago when he was swatting shots, gobbling up rebounds and throwing down transition dunks with regularity.

The Lakers released him days ago after signing guard D.J. Augustin and forward Wenyen Gabriel, and Jordan was subsequently signed by the Philadelphia 76ers, a team that expects to contend for the NBA championship.

Jordan had some good things to say about his former team when he reflected on starting the season in L.A.

Via Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire:

“I enjoyed my time there, for sure,” said Jordan.

“I do think those guys (the Lakers) are going to have some success late,” Jordan added.

After sending Andre Drummond to the Brooklyn Nets to acquire star guard James Harden, the Sixers needed a reliable backup center, and they believe Jordan can get the job done.

Meanwhile, the Lakers desperately need some serviceable depth up front, especially with superstar big man Anthony Davis sidelined with a sprained foot and LeBron James experiencing left knee pain again.

Although Gabriel, who is 6-foot-9 and 24 years old, has barely played since joining the team, head coach Frank Vogel said he believes he has the potential to become a rotation player for L.A.

He was able to be a roller on offense, he grabbed some rebounds, and he made an impact on both ends of the floor.
