Former Raiders WR/KR DeAndre Carter signs with Bears

Former Raiders WR/KR DeAndre Carter signs with Bears

A few former Raiders players have been signing on with new teams this week. From Roderic Teamer to Gareon Conley to DeAndre Carter.

Conley is trying to make a return to the league after the former first round pick last played an NFL game in 2019. He joined the Cowboys. Teamer returned to his native New Orleans to sign with the Saints. And Carter has signed on with the Bears to compete for their kick returner job.

Carter played last season for the Raiders where he returned 24 punts and 11 kicks. Despite having put up career numbers in 2022 with the Chargers, he was targeted just seven times last season, catching four passes for 39 yards.

The Sacramento State alum entered the league in 2018 as an undrafted free agent. This is a return to Chicago for him as he appeared in four games for the Bears in 2020, but had just four punt returns for them that season.

The seven-year veteran has also played for the Texans, Eagles, and Commanders.

Bears officially sign WR DeAndre Carter

The Bears have announced they’ve signed WR DeAndre Carter to a one-year deal.

The Chicago Bears have officially signed wide receiver and special teams ace DeAndre Carter to a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday.

Carter, 30, signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He had a brief stint with the Bears in 2020, where he appeared in four games, and now he’s back.

Carter also had stops with the Oakland Raiders (2015), New England Patriots (2015-16), San Francisco 49ers (2017-18), Philadelphia Eagles (2018), Houston Texans (2018-20), Washington Commanders (2021), Los Angeles Chargers (2022) and most recently the Las Vegas Raiders (2023).

Carter will compete for one of the final receiver roster spots, where his special teams contributions make him a strong contender. He’s an experienced kick and punt returner in his six-year career, where he can be a weapon for Chicago with the new kickoff rules.

Those final receiver roster spots will be something to watch in training camp, where special teams will play a key role. Carter will battle the likes of Velus Jones Jr., Dante Pettis and Nsimba Webster, who all have return experience.

Report: Bears signing WR DeAndre Carter

The Bears are signing receiver and special teams ace DeAndre Carter, according to Jordan Schultz.

The Chicago Bears are signing wide receiver and special teams ace DeAndre Carter, according to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz.

Carter, 30, signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He had a brief stint with the Bears in 2020, where he appeared in four games.

The addition of Carter makes sense, especially from a special teams aspect, where he’ll have a chance to compete for a roster spot with his speed and return ability.

Chicago’s receiver room is loaded, which includes one of the league’s best trios with DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and rookie Rome Odunze, giving Caleb Williams plenty of options.

But special teams will likely come into play for one of the final roster spots, where Carter will battle the likes of Velus Jones Jr., Dante Pettis and Nsimba Webster, who all have return experience.

9 Raiders free agents remain unsigned after first week

One week later and 9 Raiders free agents still unemployed

A great many departing Raiders found new homes over the past week. Some were re-signed to the team as well. You can all the team’s additions, retentions, and subtractions right here in our free agency tracker.

But not all of those who were a member of the Raiders a week ago have found a landing spot yet. Specifically these nine.

Raiders wide receiver corps ranked slowest in NFL

Times they are-a-changin: Raiders wide receiver corps ranked slowest in NFL

Never in my life did I expect to see a stat like this for the Raiders. The slowest wide receiver corps in the league?? Al Davis is spinning in his grave.

Many of you are probably wondering why Tre Tucker’s speed wouldn’t raise this number a bit. Well, first of all, as the chart suggests, it’s weighted for routes run. And Tucker was not a big part of the Raiders offense this season.

With routes run as the filter here, and since I don’t have the raw routes run numbers, I will go by targets, let’s list the Raiders receivers by targets and their 40 times.

Davante Adams 4.56, 963 snaps, 175 targets
Jakobi Meyers 4.63, 903 snaps, 106 targets
Hunter Renfrow 4.59, 363 snaps, 37 targets
Tre Tucker 4.4 334 snaps, 34 targets
DeAndre Carter 4.44, 102 snaps, 7 targets

So, yeah, Tucker has a decent 40 time of 4.4 flat. Though, it’s no Jacoby Ford (4.28) or Darrius Heyward-Bey (4.3). Not many are.

But more importantly, Tucker saw just a third of the snaps this season with Adams and Meyers getting the vest majority of the snaps and targets and their 40 times are not special.

Not that any of this is a big deal, really. Adams in certainly a deep threat with plenty of ability to get separation. Tucker did see his snaps and targets go up over the final few games of the season, twice setting new career-highs in catches and yards in those games.

Mostly it’s just pretty stunning to see the Raiders of all teams last on this list as classically, that has not been the case.

Raiders 2023 Season Busters

Raiders 2023 Season Busters

While the Raiders may have ended the season with a good feeling overall, they ended it with a meaningless game. Being unable to reach .500 and knocked out of the playoffs before the end of the season obviously means a few things went wrong.

We covered the top performances in the Ballers. Now let’s get to the bad news with our Busters.

Auburn signs No. 3 JUCO OT Seth Wilfred

Auburn has signed Seth Wilfred, who was recently named an All-American at the JUCO level.

Auburn has landed one of the top JUCO offensive linemen in the country.

[autotag]Seth Wilfred[/autotag] has officially signed with the Tigers, giving them two offensive linemen in their 2024 recruiting class. Auburn has already announced the addition of four-star interior offensive lineman [autotag]DeAndre Carter[/autotag].

Originally from Mitchell, Nebraska, Wilfred ended his high school career at Bishop Gorman High School before heading to Snow College for one season. He was named an NJCAA All-American before garnering attention at the FBS level and ultimately signing with Auburn.

Four-Star offensive lineman DeAndre Carter signs letter of intent with Auburn.

Offensive lineman DeAndre Carter is making his way to the Plains next season.

Hugh Freeze is working towards building an elite offensive line.

Four-star, 6-foot-5, 335-pound offensive lineman [autotag]DeAndre Carter[/autotag] has officially signed with National Letter of Intent to play for the Auburn Tigers next fall.

Carter will most likely slot in at one of the guard positions for Auburn. The Mater Dei High School alum was the third-best interior offensive lineman in this year’s recruiting class. He was also the No. 11 prospect in the talent-loaded state of California.

The California native joins early signee [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag] as 2024 recruits coming off State Championship victories. Coleman of course won the Alabama Class 7A State Championship in early December.

Carter was able to win his own state title a few days later, as Mater Dei took down Serra High School 35-0 in the CIF Open Division Championship.

Unlike Coleman, Carter had been committed to Auburn since early September after a great visit this summer.

The large offensive lineman fell in love with the Loviest Village on the Plains, committing just a short month after his visit and turning down the likes of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, and USC.

Carter’s recruitment comes at a great time as Auburn is set to lose [autotag]Gunner Britton[/autotag], [autotag]Avery Jones[/autotag], and [autotag]Kam Stutts[/autotag] to graduation next season.

Auburn OT target Favour Edwin trending to SEC rival

Auburn and Alabama are battling for offensive tackle Favour Edwin.

Auburn’s coaches have been working to add more offensive linemen to the Tigers’ 2024 recruiting class but it has been tough. They currently have juat two commitments, four-star [autotag]DeAndre Carter[/autotag] and three-star [autotag]Seth Wilfred[/autotag], a JUCO product.

One of the players they’ve been looking to add to the class is three-star offensive tackle [autotag]Favour Edwin[/autotag], who is from McDonough, Georgia. The Tigers have hosted him on several visits and were seen as the favorite to land the 6-foot-7, 300-pounder.

That is no longer the case as Nick Saban and Alabama have stormed ahead of Auburn. They hosted him for an official visit on Dec. 8 and have received three crystal balls to land him from 247Sports recruiting experts since then.

Edwin is the No. 795 overall player and No. 59 offensive tackle in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 92 player from Georgia.

Auburn still has one high school target on the board ahead of the early signing period, four-star [autotag]Coen Echols[/autotag]. Auburn is the favorite to land the Texas product but LSU and Texas A&M are still involved.
