Steelers’ Week 10 opponent acquires 4x Pro Bowl CB at trade deadline

Washington bolstered their defense by acquiring 4x Pro Bowl CB Marshon Lattimore ahead of Week 10 matchup against the Steelers.

As if the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 10 matchup against the Washington Commanders couldn’t be more difficult. In a day filled with exciting trade revelations, insider Adam Schefter reported that Washington would acquire four-time Pro Bowler CB Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints.

Lattimore is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, but Washington was in dire need of finding additional support at the CB position to shore up their secondary and remain competitive in the NFC.

The lockdown CB has been a staple of a tough New Orleans defense ever since he was drafted back in 2017, winning Defensive Rookie of the Year that very season and solidifying himself as one of the premier cornerbacks in the league.

It remains to be seen how much, if at all, Lattimore will impact the Week 10 contest versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. If Lattimore is available to play, having the CB play man coverage against George Pickens, or perhaps a potential newly acquired Steelers’ WR at the trade deadline, would be an exciting matchup, to say the least.

BREAKING: Saints trade Marshon Lattimore to Washington Commanders

BREAKING: Saints trade Marshon Lattimore to Washington Commanders

The New Orleans Saints are trading cornerback Marshon Lattimore to the Washington Commanders, as first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and confirmed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The news comes just before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, and Rapoport adds that the Saints are getting a “premium draft pick” back for the four-time Pro Bowler.

We’ll have to wait and see what that compensation entails, but for now Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry are the future at cornerback in New  Orleans. Paulson Adebo is a free agent in March so the Saints could have two new starters outside for their defense by 2025.

This is a developing story.

NFC playoff favorite emerges as ‘real contender’ in Marshon Lattimore trade talks

An NFC playoff favorite has emerged as a ‘real contender’ in Marshon Lattimore trade talks. He could soon join Jayden Daniels on the Washington Commanders:

Here’s some movement. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reports that the Washington Commanders have “emerged as a real contender” in trade talks for New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore. The former four-time Pro Bowler has been at the center of negotiations with multiple teams before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, but Washington may be best-positioned to cut a deal.

The Commanders own two picks in 2025’s third round, including a high choice coming back from the Miami Dolphins (which they got from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for wide receiver Jahan Dotson). If the Saints are smart, they’ll push to bundle that early third rounder with multiple late-round picks, replacing assets they’ve traded to other teams in Rounds 6 and 7.

Washington has surprised the NFL world by jumping out to a 7-2 start this season, led by playmaking rookie  quarterback Jayden Daniels. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn knows Lattimore well after playing against him as the former Atlanta Falcons head coach, and he could be the piece that puts them over the top. Stay tuned.

AFC North rival trades away star DE at deadline

The Cleveland Browns have traded away their star DE Za’Darius Smith to the Detroit Lions at the trade deadline.

While three-quarters of the AFC North continue to build up their rosters for potential playoff runs, the Cleveland Browns appear to be selling their 2024 seasonal aspirations, as the team has traded away one of their star players at the trade deadline.

Cleveland is sending DE Za’Darius Smith and a 2026 seventh-round draft pick to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round and a 2026 sixth-round draft pick, per insider Ian Rapoport.

Considering how talented and established Smith is off the edge, the Lions have been gifted the deal of a lifetime. Detroit was in dire need of an edge rusher, as their elite DE Aiden Hutchinson suffered a season-ending broken left tibia in Week 6.

Will Cleveland continue to sell their 2024 roster as the 4:00 PM EST deadline inches ever closer? While it appears to be another case of Juju Smith-Schuster’s infamous line, ‘the Browns is the Browns,’ Pittsburgh is likely laser-focused on the trade deadline themselves, as the team has been linked to both wide receiver trade targets and defensive depth in recent days.

Week 10: Commanders’ greatest strength may present issues for Steelers

The 7-2 Commanders host the 6-2 Steelers in Week 10 and Washington’s perfection in the turnover game could prove troublesome for Pittsburgh.

In Week 10, iron sharpens iron—and in this case, Pittsburgh steel aims to cut deeper—as the 6-2 Steelers travel to the nation’s capital to take on the 7-2 Washington Commanders in a clash of behemoths. The Commanders’ strongest asset, their narrow margin of error in the turnover game, could present the Steelers with some challenges throughout the game.

Commanders’ rookie QB Jayden Daniels could give the Pittsburgh defense a tough matchup; however, it is the offensive effort and protection of the football that makes the team truly threatening. Washington has only turned the ball over three times all season, leading the NFL in fewest turnovers on offense.

The Steelers are 1-1 in games where they lose the turnover battle this season, and when facing a Washington team currently ranked fourth in total points scored per game, the Steelers may need to rely on expert coaching to secure a victory in Week 10.

Can the ever-reliable Pittsburgh defense do what very few NFL teams have done to the Washington Commanders, and force them to turn the ball over? Tune in to see the Week 10 matchup unfold on November 10th at 1:00 PM EST.

Steelers fans react to D.K. Metcalf trade rumors

Fans of the Black and Gold are in a trade rumor frenzy after Steelers RB Cordarrelle Patterson teased the recruitment of WR D.K Metcalf.

Speculation and trade rumors are beginning to reach an all-time high as the November 5th trade deadline, at 4:00 PM EST, is less than one day away. While the Pittsburgh Steelers have been rumored to pursue any and all available wide receivers, such as Carolina Panthers’ Adam Thielen and New York Jets’ Mike Williams, the most recent and perhaps most exciting rumor involves none other than Seattle Seahawks’ former All-Pro WR D.K. Metcalf.

Fans of the Steel City erupted on social media when Steelers RB Cordarrelle Patterson, who has been actively recruiting several receivers for the team in recent weeks, seemingly began to recruit Metcalf following Seattle’s Week 9 loss.

It was rumored that Seattle could consider moving on from their star WR with a Week 9 defeat, but could Steelers General Manager Omar Khan be the hero of Pittsburgh, and bring this elite talent to the Steel City? Only time will tell, but here are some of the best fan reactions to the speculation and rumors.

Cordarrelle Patterson seemingly recruits All-Pro WR to Pittsburgh

Days before the trade deadline, Cordarrelle Patterson recently hinted at recruiting D.K. Metcalf to Pittsburgh, fueling speculation.

Where there’s proverbial trade smoke, there’s bound to be speculative fire. Pittsburgh Steelers RB Cordarrelle Patterson has more than stirred up trade rumors in the Steel City, as he has previously and publicly attempted to recruit several veteran WRs to Pittsburgh, including Davante Adams and Mike Williams. He hilariously teased fans a little over a week ago about whom to pursue next. However, his most recent attempt is none other than former All-Pro WR D.K. Metcalf.

While fans typically take Patterson’s recruitment tactics with a grain of salt, with only a few days until the trade deadline, could Pittsburgh actually be in trade talks with the Seattle Seahawks regarding Metcalf?

The Seahawks lost their Week 9 matchup to the Rams, relinquishing their control over the NFC West to the now first place Arizona Cardinals. Could the 4-5 Seahawks consider trading one of their top receivers, if the price is right, to the Pittsburgh Steelers? General Manager Omar Khan could orchestrate one of the biggest blockbuster trades of the season, and acquiring Metcalf would propel Pittsburgh into Super Bowl contender status.

Former Steelers’ WR turned Raven a non-factor in Baltimore debut

Former Steeler and newly acquired Ravens WR Diontae Johnson had an underwhelming debut in Baltimore, making zero impact whatsoever.

While not every debut makes a splash, some fail to even make a ripple. This is exactly the reality Diontae Johnson faced in his first appearance with the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9. The former Steelers WR did his best impression of Roman Wilson’s regular-season debut. Not only did Johnson fail to record a single catch, Ravens QB Lamar Jackson didn’t target him at all during the contest.

While his playing time was limited, similar to how Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin handled Wilson’s first career NFL regular-season game, his inability to make even a slight impact begs the question: was too much stock put into his arrival with the Ravens?

While Johnson has yet to be given the chance to highlight some of his less-than-lovable qualities, such as his tendency to give up on plays, his lack of consistency in run blocking, and his plethora of dropped passes, fans of Pittsburgh should be excited about the opportunity to showcase, in Week 11’s matchup with the Ravens, why acquiring Donte Jackson was well worth the price they paid in trading Johnson to Carolina.

Pittsburgh radio host paints intriguing Steelers trade scenario

Andrew Fillipponi, host of 93.7 The Fan, painted an intriguing Steelers trade scenario, sparking fan discussion as the trade deadline nears

The results of Week 9’s contests, considered by most to have the greatest implications before the November 5th trade deadline, are beginning to shape the entire landscape of the 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers trade rumors.

The Carolina Panthers, despite defeating the New Orleans Saints 23-22 just days before the trade deadline, are still 2-7 on the season and will likely continue to seek potential trade partners to offload some of their veteran talent.

Andrew Filliponi, host of the Pittsburgh sports-focused radio station 93.7 The Fan, envisioned an interesting and highly possible trade scenario in which the Steelers acquire veteran WR Adam Thielen from the Carolina Panthers.

Could Thielen’s health situation compare to that of Davante Adams’ ‘hamstring injury’, with Carolina potentially being cautious and limiting their WR’s play to avoid any complications in a potential trade with Pittsburgh? With only a few days left before the Steelers are locked out of making trades for the 2024 season, Pittsburgh will need to act quickly to strengthen their bid for a deep playoff run this season.

Report: Super Bowl contender calling Saints about their best defender

The Kansas City Chiefs and others have called about Marshon Lattimore. Other than the Saints’ hesitance to cut a deal, what could stop those conversations?

Dennis Allen made it clear the New Orleans Saints aren’t in the business of selling off assets as the NFL trade deadline approaches. Simply saying the Saints aren’t sellers won’t stop teams from testing the waters. The next question became, are teams calling the Saints, and if so, for who?

Marshon Lattimore was the first guess, and he has become the first Saints player connected to another team. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Kansas City Chiefs have called to see about the cornerback’s availability.

The Chiefs aren’t the only team calling about the Lattimore, either. The teams calling New Orleans are likely also contending for the playoffs. At the current time, Lattimore feels more like the cherry on top rather than the shake itself.

Lattimore has constantly dealt with injuries over the last three years. He’s currently on the shelf with a hamstring injury. Those health concerns are what could keep teams from heavily pursuing him or lessen the compensation the Saints could see in return. The deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. CT. Let’s see if they cut a deal.
