Is Cam Robinson playing today? Update for Vikings OT

TEAMA POSITION PLAYER NAME (ex Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa) is dealing with a [BLANK] injury. Here are the latest updates.

Last week, the Vikings lost starting offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw to an ACL and MCL tear that ended his 2024 season. For a Vikings team that saw its offense as the key piece to its success, this was seen as a major loss for the team as a whole.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah addressed the need by going out and acquiring Jaguars starting left tackle Cam Robinson in a trade. He gave up minimal draft capital and less money than he was owed to be able to rent the tackle for the remainder of 2024 before he hits free agency next Spring.

The former Jaguars arrived in Minnesota this week and practiced with the team Thursday, leaving some questions about his status for Sunday.

Cam Robinson update

Despite only practicing once with the Vikings this week following the trade for him, Robinson will play against the Colts on Sunday night. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the news on Sunday morning.

The Vikings’ starting offensive line is expected to be Cam Robinson, Blake Brandel, Garrett Bradbury, Ed Ingram, and Brian O’Neill.

While Cam Robinson is starting for the Vikings, David Quessenberry is expected to back him up. Rookie Walter Rouse is also expected to be available if he is needed.

NFL analyst says the Vikings bringing in a free agent OT “makes sense”

Should the Minnesota Vikings bring in a free agent to replace Christian Darrisaw? Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer thinks it “makes sense”.

On Thursday night, things quickly went from bad to worse for the Minnesota Vikings against the Los Angeles Rams. It wasn’t enough that the Vikings defense got bullied for the second straight week, and the team lost their second game in a row after winning their first five.

The football gods had to add injury to insult—quite literally—as the Vikings lost their starting left tackle, Christian Darrisaw, for the season with a torn ACL and MCL. Darrisaw was playing at a Pro Bowl level this season and was a big reason why the Vikings offense—and the team in general—got off to such a hot start.

The injury has left many wondering what the Vikings plan on doing at the position in the wake of Darrisaw’s absence, and they have plenty of options. Swing tackle David Quessenberry came into the game on Thursday after Darrisaw’s injury, and has plenty of experience at tackle in the NFL. However, there was a clear difference in the level of play of the offense post-Darrisaw injury with Quessenberry in.

If the Vikings don’t trust Quessenberry full-time at the position, they also have Blake Brandel as an option. Brandel is currently playing left guard for the team, but also has experience at tackle. With Dalton Risner expected to return, head coach Kevin O’Connell could opt to swing Brandel outside and put Risner at tackle.

The third option — and one that Sports Illustrated’s NFL analyst Albert Breer says “makes sense” in his Week 8 Takeaways column for the outlet — is signing a tackle off free agency. Breer suggests the likes of D.J. Humphries, David Bakhtiari, and Charles Leno as options.

All three players have extensive experience at the position and would make for a solid rental option to finish out the season. As Breer points out in the column, Darrisaw is still just 25 years old, and there’s no reason to think he won’t make a full recovery from this injury, so there’s no need for the Vikings to go out and make a drastic move at the position for someone who would be a long-term solution. However, Breer believes bringing someone in for the short term could be the right move for Minnesota.

David Quessenbery contract terms revealed

The Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling reveals the terms of David Quessenbery’s contract as he re-signs with the Minnesota Vikings

One of the more fun exercises in free agency is figuring out how these free agency contracts are structured and how the money is allocated to the player.

The Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling gives an in-depth look at the one-year contract given to David Quessenberry to re-sign with the Minnesota Vikings. According to Goessling, Quessenberry’s deal is a one-year, $1.885 million deal, with $1.375 million guaranteed.

The contract also comes with a $625,000 signing bonus, a $1.210 million base salary ($750,000 guaranteed) and a $50,000 workout bonus with up to $200,000 in incentives.

Minnesota’s offensive line was one of the more stout in the NFL last season, ranking as the tenth-best offensive line at the end of the season, according to Pro Football Network. One of the concerns for the unit heading into this season was the depth behind the starting five. Re-signing both Quessenberry and Blake Brandel was a major step in fortifying the interior and keeping continuity along the line.

Vikings re-signed OL Blake Brandel and David Quessenberry

The Minnesota Vikings have re-signed backup offensive linemen Blake Brandel and David Quessenberry.

The Minnesota Vikings have been very active so far during free agency. After the announcement that they are expected to sign Houston Texans edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, ESPN’s Kevin Seifert reported that they have re-signed OL Blake Brandel and David Quessenberry.

The Vikings needed to add depth on the offensive line and bringing back players who have been in the system and played well is a smart move.

The Vikings drafted Brandel in the sixth round out of Oregon State as a tackle and moved inside this past season and played well.

Quessenberry is a seasoned veteran who was a good backup for the team and played well in his backup role and his time starting with the team.

The Vikings will still need to add multiple pieces to the offensive line but with only one starting spot open, it’s in a good spot.

Studs and duds from Vikings 30-20 loss vs. Lions

Danielle Hunter and Justin Jefferson highlight the final 2023 season of studs and duds

The Minnesota Vikings season ends on a low note with a 30-20 loss to NFC North division rival Detroit Lions.

The game went about as you could have predicted. The Lions offense was able to have their way against a Vikings defense that couldn’t tackle and continuously busted coverages and made mistakes throughout the game.

On offense, the Vikings were able to move the football consistently through the air and even outgained the Lions by 67 yards. Quarterback Nick Mullens kept the Vikings in the game with 396 passing yards but two late interceptions kept the Vikings from finishing the comeback.

In our final rendition of studs and duds for the 2023 season, these stood out like a sore thumb.

4 offensive keys for Vikings in Week 15 vs. Bengals

To get back on track against the Cincinnati Bengals this Saturday, the Minnesota Vikings have to follow these four offensive keys to victory

The Minnesota Vikings are on the road again as they head to Paycor Stadium to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday at noon CST.

Minnesota’s offense has been in a rut as of late. In the last three weeks, they’ve had three of their five worst games offensively, according to expected points added. If the Vikings want a shot at the playoffs, they can’t afford to continue their current pace on that side of the ball. There won’t be many chances to win a game 3-0 in today’s NFL.

They’re going up against a Bengals team that just had one of their best games on defense as they held a solid Colts offense to less than 300 total yards.

Not to say that this isn’t still a flawed defense, it is. They are near the bottom of the league in both EPA per play and defensive success rate

After two-plus games of below-average quarterback play, Josh Dobbs has been replaced by veteran Nick Mullens now that he is off of injured reserve.

If the Vikings want to get back on track on the offensive side, here are four keys that they will have to follow.

Field of Dreams: Minnesota continues to defy the doubters

Kevin O’Connell has the Minnesota Vikings playing at an absurdly high level for the type of adversity they have faced.

Kevin O’Connell started his post-game press conference on Sunday with the following quote, and nothing could be more indicative of the spectacle we witnessed.

“I don’t know [if] I’ve been a part of one like that…when you think about all the things you talk about every single day in your organization. That people matter, that culture matters. Building the type of football team we want to have. What’s inside of each and every guy in that locker room, and the feelings they have towards one another. These are the days that cement why you believe what you believe as a coach. I’ll quite honestly remember this one for a long time.”

There aren’t many times when the football world can’t believe that a phenomenon occurred. The game has been played for over 150 years, so it’s tough to surprise most fans and analysts.

But even so, Josh Dobbs and this Minnesota Vikings team found a way to surprise the entire football world by beating the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Everyone knows the story.

Dobbs had not taken any practice snaps due to the need to prepare rookie Jaren Hall at all costs. So, when Hall became concussed after only the second drive of the game, Dobbs was thrown into the fires of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, just 30 minutes away from his hometown of Alpharetta, Georgia.

Dobbs had his faults as he traversed his new reality of being thrown into a new scheme, with new terminology in just five days. But with the help of Kevin O’Connell and the rest of this coaching staff, Minnesota pulled off a victory with enough magnitude to potentially define a season.

Dobbs and his performance has taken on a life of its own very quickly. This is a perfect time to review how we got to this moment.

Let’s take a quick look at the difficult hike it took to get back to playoff aspirations for the 2023 Vikings.

Former Bills OL David Quessenberry signs with Vikings

Former #Bills OL David Quessenberry signs with #Vikings:

The Buffalo Bills had a few players claimed off waivers when NFL teams were required to reduce their rosters to 53 players.

One veteran not subject to the wire still ended up being picked up by another team.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, offensive lineman David Quessenberry was signed by the Minnesota Vikings.

Quessenberry, 32, originally signed in Buffalo in April 2022. He appeared in 16 games with the Bills last season, making three starts. The team then re-signed him this spring.

During his time in Buffalo, Pro Football Focus gave Quessenberry a pass-blocking grade of 62.3 and run-blocking grade of 53.7.

With the sudden retirement of Brandon Shell and season-ending injury to Tommy Doyle, it appeared that Quessenberry would be the favorite to land the swing-tackle position on the roster, backing up starters Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown.

Instead, the Bills went with a youth movement, keeping Alec Anderson and Ryan Van Demark on their active roster instead. The team went on to sign former first-round pick Germain Ifedi as well.

Vikings bolster the OL, sign veteran offensive tackle

The Vikings are now up to nine offensive lineman on the roster

The Minnesota Vikings have found a solution to bolster their offensive line depth. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo, the Vikings are signing offensive tackle David Quessenberry to the active roster.

The Vikings only kept eight offensive lineman on the initial 53-man roster with Chris Reed staying on the non-football injury list. That signaled the Vikings were going to take action in addressing the offensive line quickly.

Quessenberry is 32 years old and was a sixth-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft by the Houston Texans. He didn’t play a game until the 2017 season with the Texans.

He started all 17 games in 2021 with the Tennessee Titans, including a grade of 79.1 overall. Quessenberry joined the Buffalo Bills last season and played 16 games with three starts. He had a PFF grade of 59.3 with a pass-blocking grade of 62.3 and run-blocking grade of 53.7.

This brings the Vikings’ offensive line room up to nine players with three of them able to play tackle.

All 32 NFL teams have until 12 p.m. ET on Wednesday to submit claims.

Here are a nine players Baltimore should consider who have either hit the waiver wire or become free agents within the last couple of days.
