Oklahoma Sooners 2024 commitment tracker

Which players are committed to the Oklahoma Sooners 2024 recruiting class and what do they bring to the football field?

The Oklahoma Sooners are hoping to follow a pair of top-10 recruiting classes in 2022 and 2023 with another in the 2024 recruiting cycle. The Sooners’ 6-7 season didn’t affect the finish to the 2023 recruiting class, which finished No. 4 in the nation according to 247Sports.

Brent Venables and his staff are hoping to have a repeat of that success or better and have themselves well-positioned to be near the top of the rankings when it’s all said and done in 2024.

Much of the success of this class will be determined by how well the Oklahoma Sooners recruit the defensive line ahead of their move to the SEC in 2024. In a strong defensive line class, the Sooners are in a good spot with a number of highly-coveted prospects. They finally broke the ice on their defensive line recruiting with the addition of Wyatt Gilmore, the No. 2 player in the state of Minnesota and a four-star prospect.

All eyes turn to players like [autotag]David Stone[/autotag], [autotag]Williams Nwaneri[/autotag], [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag], [autotag]Jayden Jackson[/autotag], [autotag]Nigel Smith[/autotag], [autotag]Danny Okoye[/autotag], [autotag]Jayshawn Ross[/autotag], [autotag]Joseph Jonah-Ajonye[/autotag], and [autotag]Zina Umeozulu[/autotag].

They will not land all of their targets, but Venables, [autotag]Ted Roof[/autotag], [autotag]Todd Bates[/autotag] and [autotag]Miguel Chavis[/autotag] have made a strong impression on an impressive group of defensive line prospects.

Still just over five months out from the early signing period, here’s a look at who is committed to the Oklahoma Sooners as of July 1, 2023.

Tennessee football to host official visits before recruiting dead period

Tennessee football to host official visits before the upcoming NCAA recruiting dead period.

The NCAA football recruiting dead period is slated for June 26-July 24.

During a dead period, it is considered not permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations, on or off the member institution’s campus, or to permit official or unofficial visits by prospective student-athletes to the institution’s campus, per the NCAA.

The Vols are scheduled to host 2024 prospects for official visits ahead of the upcoming dead period.

The Vols have 14 commitments in the 2024 class: Offensive lineman Max Anderson, cornerback Kaleb Beasley, defensive lineman Carson Gentle, athlete Marcus Goree Jr., athlete Jonathan Echols, quarterback Jake Merklinger, offensive tackle Jesse Perry, offensive tackle Gage Ginther and safety Edrees Farooq, defensive lineman Jeremias Heard, edge rusher Kellen Lindstrom and running back Peyton Lewis, athlete Boo Carter and linebacker Jordan Burns.

Below are 2024 recruits who scheduled official visits to Tennessee ahead of the upcoming NCAA dead period.

Tennessee is ‘setting the bar’ for 2024 prospect Danny Okoye

Tennessee is setting the bar for 2024 prospect Danny Okoye.

Four-star edge prospect Danny Okoye has emerged as a top target for the Vols in the class of 2024.

Tennessee is one of Okoye’s top 10 schools for his commitment.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound edge prospect is from NOAH Homeschool in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Okoye discussed his recruitment with Vols Wire.

“Tennessee is definitely setting the bar recruiting-wise,” Okoye said. “I love the energy from them and the environment that is up there.”

Okoye has built a relationship with outside linebackers coach Mike Ekeler and defensive coordinator Tim Banks.

“Coach Banks and coach Ek are friends of mine, even apart from football,” Okoye said. “It’s been great going through the recruiting journey with them.”

Okoye is the No. 168 overall prospect in the class of 2024. He ranks as the No. 10 edge prospect and No. 1 player in Oklahoma, according to On3 Sports industry rankings.

He attended Tennessee’s junior day on Jan. 14 and scheduled an unofficial visit on June 23. Okoye plans to announce his commitment by November.

2024 Four-star EDGE Danny Okoye sets up Texas official visit

The No. 1 player in Oklahoma sets up his Texas official visit.

Four-star EDGE Danny Okoye is set to take an official visit to Texas in June. The talented Tusla product announced on Twitter we will be in Austin the weekend of June 16-18.

The 247Sports Composite rankings list Okoye as the No. 1 prospect in Oklahoma and a top 150 overall player nationally. He has built a strong offer list with an opportunity to play at close to 30 programs at the next level.

Okoye narrowed down his recruitment to 10 schools earlier this week. Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M all made the cut.

Okoye spoke with On3 Sports about what he is looking for from coaches recruiting him.

“So, I like a coach who knows what he wants from me and can give me a task to execute without me having to go in there and wonder what I have to do to make an impact.”

Texas has a chance to build some early momentum in Okyoe’s recruitment with his summer visit. The Longhorns staff would love to add the high-upside pass rusher to its 2024 signing class.

2025 Texas prospect Dilan Battle receives offer from Oklahoma

Oklahoma offered 2025 DL Dilan Battle out of Texas. Battle is a tough run-stopping interior defensive lineman.

The 2024 class, particularly the defensive linemen, is all the rage when discussing recruiting for the Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma is knee-deep in heavyweight battles for multiple five and four-star defensive linemen.

[autotag]Williams Nwaneri[/autotag], [autotag]David Stone[/autotag], [autotag]Joseph Jonah-Ajonye[/autotag], [autotag]Nigel Smith[/autotag], [autotag]Danny Okoye[/autotag], and [autotag]Jayden Jackson[/autotag] all come to mind when discussing prospects Oklahoma is fighting for in meaningful capacities. Oklahoma could take up to five or six defensive linemen in their class, so the net is wide.

For the 2025 class, the defensive line will likely not be nearly as big of a focus if Oklahoma does load up in the 2024 class. But they need to attack the defensive trenches with the same fervor. The 2025 class will be their first signing class after spending a season in the SEC. The Sooners will know the types of athletes and players they’ll need to compete.

Guys like 2025 defensive line prospect Dilan Battle fit the mold along the defensive interior. Battle is a 6-foot-2, 315-pound interior disruptor for his Mansfield Timberview team. He sheds blockers with the best of them, and it remains his biggest asset as a player right now.

Much of the concern about Oklahoma’s defensive line centers around the lack of size in the middle left over from the Alex Grinch days. Battle is a ready-made nose tackle that could step in and line up over the center from day one.

While 247Sports doesn’t have him ranked, Battle’s offer sheet includes some heavy hitters indicating that it’s only a matter of time before recruiting services are forced to re-evaluate and rank him accordingly.

Texas A&M makes 4-Star EDGE Danny Okoye’s Top 10 program list

Texas A&M has landed in 2024 four-star EDGE Danny Okoye’s Top 10 program list heading into an important recruiting summer

For some, the summer lull is an aggravating buildup towards the impending football season that’s filled with previews and rankings galore, but aside from the obvious, recruiting is king in the summer, and Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting cycle is entering its most crucial stage: campus visits.

On Saturday, four-star Edge Danny Okoye, out of Tulsa, Oklahoma, released his Top 10 program list, which included Texas, Georgia, LSU, Colorado, Alabama, Nebraska, Oregon, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. But, of course, Texas A&M. Even though he hasn’t officially set up any notable campus visits yet, the fact that the Aggies have made his top list is as good a sign as ever.

Okoye is ranked as the 12 Edge prospect and the No.1-ranked player in Oklahoma in the 2024 class according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Additionally, Okoye is borderline elite in pass rush, recording 43 tackles, six sacks, and one interception during his 2020 junior season at NOAH Homeschool while recording 10.5 sacks in the prior 2021 season.

Okoye has been on A&M’s radar after offering him on in late January, but let’s be honest, his over 29 offers will continue to grow, so hopefully, Aggies head Jimbo Fisher and his exceptional recruiting staff can schedule a visit this summer; or sometime this Fall.

LSU offers 2024 top 100 EDGE from Tulsa

Brian Kelly and his coaching staff will try to sway Danny Okoye away from in-state Oklahoma State.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and his coaching staff traveled all the way from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to offer a top 100 EDGE rusher from the class of 2024.

[autotag]Danny Okoye[/autotag] is a 6-foot-5, 230-pound, four-star edge rusher who plays for NOAH Homeschool.

There are currently no crystal ball projections at this time, but Oklahoma State is a 26% favorite to land him per On3.

Film Analysis: Okoye stars as a defensive end in NOAH’s 3-4 defensive set. He is too fast for most offensive tackles and too strong for others. He has all the skills to be really good at the next level.
