Every player in Philadelphia 76ers history who has worn No. 14

Here is a list of all 34 players who have worn the No. 14 in the history of the Philadelphia 76ers.

It’s summertime in the NBA, so it’s time to learn some history. The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the older franchises in the NBA. Their history dates to the 1949-50 season.

With that longevity, the team has had hundreds of players come through the City of Brotherly Love. Sixers Wire looks at the No. 14, which has been worn by a whopping 34 of those players in the history of the franchise.

This running series will go through all of the uniform numbers worn in franchise history. The previous edition of this series was a list compiling the seven players who have worn the No. 15.

Here is the list of the 34 who have worn No. 14 in Sixers history:

Former Sixers shooter Danny Green viewed as top 10 underrated player of the decade

Former Philadelphia 76ers shooter Danny Green is viewed as one of the top 10 underrated players of the decade.

The Philadelphia 76ers pulled off a draft night trade when they sent Danny Green and the No. 23 pick, which turned out to be David Roddy, to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for De’Anthony Melton. The deal is viewed as a big win for Philadelphia because Melton will bolster the Sixers’ bench that desperately needed it.

In addition, Green is expected to miss a majority of the 2022-23 season with the torn ACL he suffered in the Game 6 loss to the Miami Heat. Therefore, this was a move the Sixers had to make to compete in the coming season.

However, it doesn’t mean Green hasn’t had a great career. Even in the 2021-22 season, the veteran averaged 5.9 points and 2.5 rebounds while shooting 38% from deep, and he shot 40.8% from deep in the playoffs. He posted those stats while battling injuries and a role change for the Sixers.

Green was named a top 10 most underrated player of the past decade by Bleacher Report for the work he has put in on the floor:

Throughout the past decade, he’s been one of the league’s best perimeter and transition defenders. He worked in switch-heavy schemes or as a dedicated option to take on an opponent’s top option.

Unlike some other defensive aces from his era — think Tony Allen or Andre Roberson — Green was far from a minus on offense. He averaged 2.0 threes per game and hit 39.8 percent of his long-range attempts since 2012-13.

Green is no longer a part of the Sixers, but the work he put in on the floor for Philadelphia in the two seasons he was with the team was a big part of its  success.

Danny Green posts his goodbye to Sixers after trade to Grizzlies

Danny Green posts his goodbye to the Philadelphia 76ers after being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Philadelphia 76ers acquired 3-time champion Danny Green on draft night back in 2020. On draft night in 2022, they traded him away to the Memphis Grizzlies along with the No. 23 pick in Thursday’s draft in exchange for De’Anthony Melton.

When the Sixers acquired Green, the idea was that he would spread the floor for Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons to work on the offensive end. He ended up shooting 40.5% from deep in the 2020-21 season as Philadelphia earned their first No. 1 seed in 20 years. His injury in Round 2 was a big blow to their playoff run.

In the 2021-22 season, he shot 38% from deep as he battled through injuries and COVID issues to continue spacing the floor for Embiid as well as James Harden after the Simmons trade. He gracefully accepted a bench role for this team and then moved back into the starting lineup in the playoffs and shot 40.8% from deep.

After the trade, Green went to Instagram and posted his heartfelt goodbye to the Sixers and his teammates as he now moves on to the Grizzlies.

Green will miss a majority of the 2022-23 season after he tore his ACL in Game 6 of the Eastern semifinals, but when he gets healthy again, he can still be a very helpful piece to the Grizzlies.

Danny Green traded from Philadelphia 76ers

Former UNC basketball standout Danny Green was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2022 NBA draft.

Former UNC basketball standout [autotag]Danny Green[/autotag] has found a new home in the NBA, for now.

During the 2022 NBA draft, Green was part of a trade in which Philadelphia sent the forward and the No. 23 overall pick to Memphis in exchange for De’Anthony Melton. The 35-year-old Green was brought up in rumors leading into the 2022 NBA draft as Philadelphia looks to re-tool the roster for what they hope is a run to the NBA Finals.

For Green, he’s still recovering after tearing his ACL and UCL in the playoffs for the 76ers. It’s very likely he will miss all of next season, which puts his future in doubt.

Memphis is still a young team that did win their opening-round playoff series against Minnesota before falling to the eventual champion Golden State. They have a young core that could benefit from a veteran presence even if Green doesn’t end up playing in a game.

Sixers trade No. 23 pick, Danny Green to Grizzlies for De’Anthony Melton

The Philadelphia 76ers are sending Danny Green and the No. 23 pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for De’Anthony Melton.

The Philadelphia 76ers are in the middle of trying to build a contender in the Eastern Conference and in order to do that, they need win-now players as they move forward with a title-ready roster led by Joel Embiid and James Harden. At this point, that is more important than bringing in another young player who needs development at this level.

Therefore, Daryl Morey and co. swung a deal that sent the No. 23 pick in Thursday’s draft to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for De’Anthony Melton. He is a 4-year veteran who averaged 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 37.4% from deep in his fourth season in the league. He was a big piece off the bench for Memphis in helping them make the playoffs.

On top of that, the Sixers are also sending veteran Danny Green to the Grizzlies to match the salary. Green suffered an ACL tear in the Game 6 elimination loss to the Miami Heat and he is expected to miss a majority of the 2022-23 season.

Melton is a guy who helps the Sixers right now and he is a tough guy. He fills some needs for Philadelphia as a ball-handler, a shooter, and somebody who can provide some toughness that he picked up along the way in his career. He is also a terrific defender out on the perimeter as he is a legitimate two-way player that can help right now.

5 trades Sixers can make to move Danny Green, No. 23 pick to help now

Here are 5 trades the Philadelphia 76ers can make to move Danny Green and the No. 23 pick that will help them right away.

The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of trying to position themselves to make moves in the offseason to put the right pieces around Joel Embiid and James Harden in order to make them legitimate contenders in the Eastern Conference.

In order to clear enough cap space to make the moves they want to make–see P.J. Tucker–they have to make a trade leading up to Thursday’s NBA draft which kicks off at 8 p.m. EST.

The Sixers have been known to have been aggressively shopping veteran Danny Green as well as the No. 23 pick they own in Thursday’s draft. They haven’t made a deal just yet, but with the help of cap specialist Yossi Gozlan, Sixers Wire has come up with five trades to move Green and the pick in order to find immediate help for the Sixers.

Note: In order for any of the following trades to work, any players mentioned with non-guaranteed salaries like Green, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Isaiah Joe would need to have their salaries guaranteed for these deals to work.

Sixers continue to aggressively shop No. 23 pick with Danny Green

The Philadelphia 76ers are continuing to aggressively shop the No. 23 pick as well as veteran Danny Green.

The 2022 NBA draft is a mere five days away and the Philadelphia 76ers will be one of the more active teams on June 23 as they continue to find a way to get some win-now players on their roster.

The Sixers possess the No. 23 pick in the draft, but considering they have a roster led by Joel Embiid and James Harden that is ready to compete for a title, now is the time to bring in some players that can help get that done now rather than trying to develop a rookie to do so.

The Sixers have already been reportedly shopping that pick as well as Danny Green, but per Michael Scotto of HoopeHype, they are upping their aggressiveness in trying to do so. He has a mock draft where the Sixers are selecting G League Ignite’s Jaden Hardy, but they might not keep that pick.

Per Scotto:

The Philadelphia 76ers are shopping the 23rd overall pick aggressively with Danny Green to add an impact player who can contribute immediately. Hardy, or anyone else selected by Philadelphia, could be on the move.

It will be interesting to see what kind of player the Sixers can get for Green and the 23rd pick. Maybe Philadelphia can coax the Orlando Magic into giving up a guy like Terrence Ross who is a veteran who is better served on a championship team rather than a rebuilding one like the Magic.

Report: Sixers shopping Danny Green, No. 23 pick for possible trades

The Philadelphia 76ers are shopping both Danny Green and the No. 23 pick for possible trades.

The Philadelphia 76ers own the No. 23 pick in the 2022 NBA draft after the Brooklyn Nets decided to defer the pick they acquired in the James Harden trade until 2023. The pick gives the Sixers an option to either make the selection or they can use it in a trade.

Now, some might wonder about how Philadelphia can trade their 2022 first-round pick when the Nets own their 2023 first-round pick and there is a rule in place that a team can’t trade first-round picks in consecutive years.

In this case, the Sixers can make a deal with a team in principle including the pick and they can then make a selection on draft night for the team they made the deal with. That makes the No. 23 pick an asset that president Daryl Morey can use for the future.

Per Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, Philadelphia is shopping both that pick as well as veteran Danny Green in possible trades while updating his mock draft. He has the Sixers selecting Blake Wesley out of Notre Dame.

O’Connor writes:

The Sixers are exploring trades involving this pick and Danny Green, according to sources. While Green was an important two-way wing for the Sixers, he tore both the ACL and LCL in his left knee in May and now he has an expiring $10 million contract. If they end trading the pick, I’d imagine a raw, high-upside player like Wesley would have wide appeal. If the Sixers keep it, taking a swing could pay off since they don’t have a first again until 2024 after the Nets deferred this year’s pick to take Philly’s 2023 selection instead. That’s a bet that the Sixers will be worse.

As O’Connor mentioned, Green will miss a majority of the 2022-23 season as he is targeting a return sometime around the All-Star break. It will be interesting to see what kind of value Green can get the Sixers considering his age and the fact that he has been dealing with a lot of injuries recently, but he can still shoot the 3-ball well and he is a positive influence in any locker room.

Morey and the Sixers are in a spot where they want to win and help Joel Embiid and Harden get the job done. For the present, this is probably the best move for them in order to properly contend in the East rather than putting their hopes in a rookie.
