Player grades: Sixers defeat Pacers, clinch home-court advanatage

The Philadelphia 76ers knocked off the Indiana Pacers to officially clinch home-court advantage in Round 1 of the playoffs.

The Philadelphia 76ers returned home on Saturday for the final two games of the regular season looking to officially clinch home-court advantage for Round 1 of the playoffs. In a matchup with the rebuilding Indiana Pacers, the Sixers were looking to finish the job and make sure the first weekend of the playoffs will be in South Philadelphia.

They did race out to a big lead against these Pacers as they did in their previous matchup with them on Tuesday. Philadelphia led by as many as 21, but Indiana fought back and they stuck around cutting the lead to single digits in this one. Eventually, the Sixers were able to come away with a 133-120 victory at home.

Joel Embiid led Philadelphia with 41 points and 20 rebounds with four assists, James Harden had 22 points and 14 assists, Tobias Harris had 18 points, and Tyrese Maxey added 18 points and five assists. Danny Green started in place of Matisse Thybulle and had 15 points and Paul Reed had eight and five rebounds off the bench.

Here are the player grades after the win:

Player grades: Pascal Siakam leads Raptors past Joel Embiid, Sixers

Pascal Siakam leads the Toronto Raptors past Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers at home in a big matchup.

The Philadelphia 76ers were looking to end their final road trip of the season on a high note. They had been so good on the road all season and a matchup with the rival Toronto Raptors on Thursday would be a very good test for this team, especially without their best perimeter defender in Matisse Thybulle.

The Sixers had a lead early in this one as they were able to get hot from deep and Joel Embiid was doing what he does, but Pascal Siakam started getting into a groove and the Sixers couldn’t stop him and his playmaking. The end result was a 119-114 loss for the Sixers as Siakam had 37 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists for Toronto.

Embiid had 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead Philadelphia, Tyrese Maxey added 22 points, Danny Green had 18 points in a start, James Harden had 13 on 3-for-12 shooting and 15 assists, and Tobias Harris had eight and seven rebounds. Shake Milton and Georges Niang had nine points each off the bench.

Here are the player grades following a tough loss:

Sixers react to Matisse Thybulle being ineligible to play vs. Raptors

The Philadelphia 76ers react to Matisse Thybulle being ineligible to play against the Toronto Raptors.

The Philadelphia 76ers received some tough news ahead of their road matchup with the Toronto Raptors on Thursday when they found out that Matisse Thybulle would be ineligible to play.

This is due to the fact that Canada has a rule that one has to be fully vaccinated to enter the country starting on Jan. 15. Thybulle played in Philadelphia’s first contest in Toronto back on Dec. 28 before the rule came into effect.

As the Sixers prepared for the Raptors on Thursday, coach Doc Rivers was asked about the issue with Thybulle and reacted accordingly. He focused on the fact that it is just one game, but the Sixers and the Raptors look like they will face off in the playoffs so they will need Thybulle for Games 3 and 4.

For what it’s worth, the Sixers have a 46.7% chance at finishing as the No. 4 seed and the Raptors have an 89.8% chance at finishing as the No. 5 seed per basketball-reference. This is the most likely scenario for the Sixers in the playoffs.

Veteran Danny Green, who will most likely start in place of Thybulle, also chimed in as he expressed some disappointment with the situation.

The Sixers and the Raptors will tipoff at 7:30 p.m. EDT from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

Danny Green discusses comfortability for James Harden, goals for Sixers

Philadelphia 76ers guard Danny Green discusses the comfortability of James Harden as well as the team’s goals down the stretch.

CAMDEN, N.J.–The Philadelphia 76ers have had 14 games with James Harden after they acquired the superstar guard from the Brooklyn Nets in a deadline deal. In those 14 games, Harden is averaging 22.4 points, 9.9 assists, and 7.6 rebounds while shooting 41.5% from the floor and 34.8% from deep.

It has not been easy for Harden during these first 14 games as he continues to try and find his way within the offense. He has to continue to make adjustments around Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, Tyrese Maxey, and everybody else and there have been some bumps in the road.

As they head into these final eight games before the playoffs begin, Philadelphia just wants to get everybody on the same page in order to be ready for the postseason.

“I think he’s pretty comfortable,” said veteran Danny Green. “He’s still learning a lot of the things that we do defensively. The philosophies, offensively, of where to find a spot and also Jo’s spots in playing with him and also playing with different lineups, different rotations. Rotations have been different each night. We have different guys with them and sometimes 20 minutes with Georges (Niang) sometimes more minutes with Tobias or less minutes with Tobias, more minutes with Tyrese.”

For Harden, Green, and the rest of the Sixers, they still have issues that need to be worked out. Philadelphia doesn’t exactly have the chemistry down pat just yet and that is the real focus for this team as they head down the stretch.

“I think we need some more minutes behind the wheel with the rotations of what the playoffs might look like,” Green added. “I want to be more comfortable finding where I get more rhythm and where my spots and shots will be. Defensively, who I’m gonna be talking and rotating with and just figure out what our playoff rotations going to be. Obviously, that’s going to change matchup to matchup. but just getting more minutes behind the wheel with the guys that I know that I’ll be sharing the floor with the most during those times.”
