2024 OT Daniel Calhoun set to visit Tuscaloosa this weekend

2024 OT Daniel Calhoun announced that he would be in attendance on Saturday for Alabama’s week one matchup with the Utah State Aggies.

Alabama’s coaching staff has already begun to recruit for the 2024 recruiting class. So far, they have landed three commitments from Jaylen Mbakwe, Martavious Collins and Perry Thompson.

One of the recruiting targets that Alabama is pursuing is the 2024 offensive tackle, Daniel Calhoun. Calhoun announced via Twitter that he would be making a trip to Tuscaloosa for Alabama’s week one matchup against the Utah State Aggies.

Calhoun currently plays at Centennial High School in Roswell, Georgia. After making unofficial visits to Alabama and Georgia in January, here is what Calhoun told On3’s Jeremy Johnson about the two programs:

“I like both of them,” Calhoun said. “I’ve seen Georgia a lot because I’ve been there probably five times. I’ve been to Alabama three or four times. It’s usually kind of the same. Big facilities, nice facilities and great fans.”

As of right now, the Bulldogs are in the lead to land Calhoun at 45.2% according to On3’s RPM. However, there is plenty of time for the Crimson Tide to pick up some steam in his recruitment. He will have a chance to further familiarize himself with the coaching staff as well as some of the players this weekend.

Roll Tide Wire will now break down Daniel Calhoun’s recruiting profile.

When Clemson formally turned the page to offering prospects in the 2024 class and started doling out offers to rising junior recruits on June 1, standout in-state prospects like Kam Pringle and Josiah Thompson were the only offensive linemen in their class to own that distinction.

On Tuesday, Clemson handed out its second batch of offers to a trio of offensive linemen in the class of 2024. One of those was a five-star prospect ranked as the country’s No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2024 class.

The Clemson Insider caught up with Centennial High School (Roswell, Ga.)’s Daniel Calhoun after he reported the offer via social media Tuesday. The 6-foot-6, 330-pound rising junior found out about the offer after speaking with his head coach, Sean O’Sullivan.

“This was one of the offers that I have been wanting, so I was very excited,” Calhoun said.

What does an offer from a school like Clemson mean for Calhoun and his recruitment going forward?

“It means a lot,” he added. “Clemson is a powerhouse in the classroom and on the field.”

Calhoun is the top-ranked offensive tackle in the 2024 class, according to both Rivals and the 247Sports Composite. Rivals ranks him as the sixth-best prospect in his class regardless of position, while he checks in as the nation’s No. 52 overall prospect in the composite rankings.

He also just about every Power Five offer that a prospect of his caliber would likely have. Clemson was the school he had been waiting to offer and now that the Tigers pulled the trigger, they will “definitely be in the mix” going forward, according to Calhoun.

It also helps in Clemson’s case that a prospect of Calhoun’s caliber has been on campus before and is already in the process of carving out a relationship with offensive line coach, Thomas Austin.

“I have a great relationship with Coach Austin,” Calhoun said. “I really enjoy talking with him. He really cares about the players.”

Calhoun told us that he plans on making his way to Tiger Town at some point this summer.

The Clemson Insider exchanged text messages with Calhoun last month and he was able to give the latest on his recruitment.

“I hope to get an offer from Clemson,” he said at the time. “Getting an offer from Clemson will be very, very big.”

Clemson played host to the blue-chip recruit when he made his first-ever unofficial visit to campus on Saturday, March 12.

Asked what stands out to him about that visit looking back on it, Calhoun said with a smiling face emoji, “The FOOD!”

Centennial High School (Roswell, Ga.)’s Daniel Calhoun recently exchanged text messages with TCI and gave the latest on his recruitment and Clemson.

The 6-foot-6, 330-pound sophomore has been staying in touch with the Tigers’ offensive line coach, Thomas Austin.

“Because I’m an underclassman, I call Coach,” Calhoun said, “to build that relationship.”

Calhoun is the top-ranked offensive tackle in the 2024 class, according to both Rivals and the 247Sports Composite. Rivals ranks him as the sixth-best prospect in his class regardless of position, while he checks in as the nation’s No. 32 overall prospect in the composite rankings.

Clemson played host to the blue-chip recruit when he made his first-ever unofficial visit to campus on Saturday, March 12.

Asked what stands out to him about that visit looking back on it, Calhoun said with a smiling face emoji, “The FOOD!”

More seriously, it’s the conversations he had with Austin and Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney that stick out most to Calhoun when he reflects on the visit.

“I really like what coach Swinney was saying and I really appreciate it,” he said. “Coach Austin likes me a lot.”

While that was Calhoun’s first trip to Tiger Town, it won’t be his last, as he is looking to make multiple visits back to Clemson.

“I’m planning on coming back for a couple of visits this summer,” he said.

Calhoun said he plans to visit as many schools as possible this summer. His list of 30-plus offers features schools such as Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, LSU, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Oklahoma, to name some.

Calhoun is doing his due diligence with his recruitment, exploring all his options, while having fun with the process at the same time.

“I’m still enjoying the process of recruiting right now,” he said. “I’m looking at every school to see what would be the best fit.”

Clemson typically doesn’t start offering prospects until the summer before their junior year, but Calhoun hopes he is one of the 2024 recruits to eventually score an offer from the Tigers.

“I hope to get an offer from Clemson,” he said. “Getting an offer from Clemson will be very, very big.”

Centennial High School (Roswell, Ga.)’s Daniel Calhoun made his first-ever trip to Tiger Town last Saturday.

The Clemson Insider caught up with the 6-foot-6, 330-pound rising junior following the visit.

“I like it. It was really fun,” Calhoun said of Clemson and his time on campus. “They have great food, great coaches. I really like Clemson.”

Calhoun is the top-ranked offensive tackle in the 2024 class, according to both Rivals and the 247Sports Composite. Rivals ranks him as the sixth-best prospect in his class regardless of position, while he checks in as the nation’s No. 30 overall prospect in the composite rankings.

Asked what stood out most to him from Saturday’s visit, Calhoun cited the Tigers’ football facility – the Allen N. Reeves Football Complex – as well as simply getting to experience what Clemson is like for the first time.

“It’s a nice facility,” he said. “I haven’t been at Clemson at all, either, so it was really fun.”

Calhoun’s mother, father and uncle accompanied him on the visit.

“They really liked it,” he said. “They like the facility and the coaches.”

The visit afforded Calhoun the opportunity to spend time with new Clemson offensive line coach Thomas Austin (pictured above). The two had spoken over the phone a little bit but never met in person prior to Saturday.

“He’s a really great coach and person, really,” Calhoun said of Austin. “He really teaches you the techniques of being an offensive lineman and stuff like that.”

Calhoun also had the chance to interact briefly with Dabo Swinney.

“He’s a really great coach, a really fun person to talk to,” Calhoun said.

What did he hear from Clemson’s head coach overall?

“Coach Swinney was really passionate about keeping them grades right,” Calhoun said. “Because he said he’s going to check the progress reports after this year. So, he just said be on top of your grades and stuff like that.”

The only other visit Calhoun has made thus far this offseason was a trip to Alabama in January. Up next for him is a visit to Georgia on Thursday.

Calhoun expects to make it back to Clemson sometime in the summer, if not before then. He said he might return to campus as soon as next month for the Tigers’ April 9 spring game.

Calhoun’s list of more than two dozen offers features schools such as Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Michigan and Oklahoma, to name some.

Clemson typically doesn’t start offering prospects until the summer before their junior year, but Calhoun hopes he is one of the 2024 recruits to eventually earn an offer from the Tigers.

“It would mean a lot,” he said. “I really like Clemson. I really like the facility, the people around Clemson. I really like it.”

Clemson is set to host a few big-time offensive line prospects in the class of 2024 this weekend.

As The Clemson Insider previously reported, Woodland (Dorchester, S.C.) four-star Kam Pringle will be on campus this Saturday, March 12, and he confirmed that again via Twitter on Wednesday morning.

This will be a chance for Pringle to meet with Thomas Austin for the first time since the latter was named Clemson’s offensive line coach. Fortunately for Pringle, he has started to build a relationship with Austin, when he camped at Clemson this past summer.

“I definitely like Coach Austin a lot,” he said. “When I went up to camp, Coach Caldwell called the drills, he told people what to do, but, Coach Austin was the one coordinating everything. He made sure that he let Coach Austin get more up close with us than he did because I guess he already knew what he was planning on doing.

“Me and Coach Austin are definitely building a decent relationship. He’s definitely kind of Coach Caldwell-style. He played for Coach Caldwell, I think, and he’s coached under him. He knows how to put guys in the league and how to get O-linemen better.”

TCI also previously reported that Centennial (Roswell, Ga.)’s Daniel Calhoun will visit Clemson on March 12, and he confirmed that via Twitter on Wednesday morning as well.

Calhoun is rated as a five-star by Rivals, which considers him the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2024 class regardless of position.

Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) four-star Waltclaire Flynn Jr. also announced via Twitter on Wednesday morning that he’ll be at Clemson this weekend.

Flynn is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 interior offensive lineman and No. 50 overall prospect in the 2024 class.

Elite recruits visiting UGA for Arkansas game

A bunch of elite high school football recruits are planning to attend the Arkansas at Georgia game.

A bunch of elite high school football recruits are planning to attend the Arkansas at Georgia game. The contest is set for an early kickoff at noon, but Sanford Stadium should be rocking.

Kirby Smart and Georgia football currently have more elite talent lined up for the future. In fact, Georgia has top-five ranked recruiting classes for 2022 and 2023.

Some fans at home will be relieved to know that Arch Manning is not among the recruits attending the game, so those watching on TV may actually hear commentary that’s focused on the game between the No. 11 and No. 2 teams in the country.

Here’s some of the top recruits who are planning to attend the Georgia versus Arkansas game:

Michigan State Football offers 2024 offensive tackle Daniel Calhoun

The Spartans have offered a very young, but very big offensive tackle prospect from Georgia.

[jwplayer mSDA56Ej-PROpJzTY]

Michigan State Football hasn’t wasted any time recruiting future classes to the program. On Monday, they offered a 2024 offensive tackle out of Roswell, Georgia, Daniel Calhoun.

Calhoun plays for Centennial High School and is already extremely big for his age at 6-foot-5, 330-pounds. The Spartans are the fifth major program to offer the popular youngster, joining Michigan, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and Georgia on his offer list. He’ll likely end up being one of the highest ranked offensive tackles in his class based on what I’ve seen of him.
