10 potential undrafted free agents the Eagles could target after the 2023 NFL draft

We’re looking at ten potential undrafted free agents the Philadelphia Eagles could target after the 2023 NFL draft

The 2023 NFL draft is almost complete, and the Eagles are just getting started with filling their 90-man roster for this summer’s intense training camp sessions.

Howie Roseman has been open about previous undrafted free agent classes, with several big-named stars holding second-day draft grades.

One week after the 2022 NFL draft, the team announced the signings of 12 undrafted rookies ahead of the minicamp.

Four eventually found their way onto the 53-man roster at some point.

We reported last week that Philadelphia led all teams with $1.8 million spent in the previous year in post-draft contracts, and Howie Roseman annually is known as one being the biggest spenders after the draft.

Recent undrafted free agents who’ve had game action with Philadelphia include Reed Blankenship, Britain Covey, Josh Jobe, Corey Clement, Sua Opeta, Nate Herbig, Kayode Awosika, Joe Ostman, Jack Stoll, Brett Toth, Greg Ward, Marvin Wilson, T.J. Edwards, and future Hall of Famer Jason Peters, who originally signed with the Bills.

We’re previewing ten prospects Philadelphia could target at the draft’s completion.

10 potential UDFAs Broncos could target after the NFL draft

Here’s a quick list of 10 potential undrafted free agents the Broncos could consider after the NFL draft.

The Denver Broncos only have five picks to use in the NFL draft this year, so barring any trades that add more picks, Denver will have room to sign 13 undrafted free agents following the draft next weekend.

The Broncos have a great history of landing UDFA gems, including wide receiver Rod Smith and cornerback Chris Harris. Last year, Denver signed 13 UDFAs, including wide receivers Jalen Virgil and Brandon Johnson.

It’s impossible to know for sure which prospects will go undrafted this year, but we have put together a list of 10 potential UDFAs that the Broncos could consider late in the draft or potentially immediately after the draft.

Here’s a quick list of 10 names to watch for as potential UDFA targets.

Broncos had a virtual pre-draft visit with TE Daniel Barker

The Broncos recently had a virtual pre-draft visit with Michigan State tight end Daniel Barker.

The Denver Broncos recently had a virtual pre-draft visit with Michigan State tight end Daniel Barker, according to The Draft Network’s Justin Melo. Denver previously had virtual visits with Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford and UCLA offensive lineman Atonio Mafi.

Barker (6-4, 250 pounds) played four seasons at Illinois before transferring to Michigan State as a graduate student. He totaled 21 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games with the Spartans last season.

Over the last five years (40 games), Barker hauled in 85 receptions for 1,066 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 12.5 yards per catch.

Barker was not ranked among Draft Wire’s top-15 tight ends following the NFL combine. He is currently projected to be an undrafted free agent prospect following this month’s NFL draft.

If he signs with the Broncos as a UDFA, Barker would join a tight end room that includes Greg Dulcich, Albert Okwuegbunam and Chris Manhertz.

The 2023 NFL draft will be held in Kansas City from April 27-29.

Unpacking Future Packers: No. 99, Michigan State TE Daniel Barker

Up next in the Unpacking Future Packers draft preview series is Michigan State TE Daniel Barker.

The Unpacking Future Packers Countdown is a countdown of 100 prospects that could be selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 2023 NFL draft.

The only tight end on Green Bay’s roster under contract for next season is Josiah Deguara. Brian Gutekunst will have to address the position via free agency or the 2023 NFL Draft.

With the team being strapped for cash, it’s far more likely that Green Bay’s general manager addresses the position multiple times in the upcoming draft.

A player that Gutekunst could target on day three of the 2023 NFL Draft is Daniel Barker. The Michigan State tight end checks in at No. 99 in the Unpacking Future Packers Countdown.

A graduate transfer from Illinois, Barker finished his lone season at Michigan State with 21 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns. During his time at Illinois, Barker recorded 11 receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.

“Barker came to East Lansing with a lot of hype,” Cory Linsner of Spartanswire.com said. “A highly regarded transfer from a fellow Big Ten member, Barker was expected to be a major contributor for the Spartans this season. While he didn’t fully live up to the hype, Barker was a solid addition to the Spartans’ passing attack in 2022.”

At 6-4, 250 pounds, Barker has the size and speed to be a mismatch in the passing game. The former three-star recruit has easy acceleration off the line of scrimmage to quickly enter his routes. He has the speed to threaten the seam and be a downfield threat.

The Illinois transfer does a good job of catching the ball away from his frame and has strong, reliable hands. According to Pro Football Focus, Barker only had four drops this past season and he looks comfortable making catches in a crowd.

Barker didn’t get a lot of passes thrown his way during his time at East Lansing, but when they did come his way, he made them count. The Michigan State tight end finished his lone season as a Spartan with 21 receptions, with 14 of them going for first downs.

His greatest strength is providing an athletic mismatch at the tight end position, possessing strong receiving skills,” Linsner said. “In the passing game, he has sure hands, while being very good at running routes. He can be a good safety valve for a quarterback from his end spot.”

Barker has the frame to develop into a reliable blocker, both in the ground game and in pass protection. There are reps as a blocker (Washington game) where he gets edge rushers on the ground. A team will have to be patient with him in this department. According to PFF, Barker earned a run-blocking grade of 62.1 and a pass-blocking grade of 46.2.

“Unfortunately, Barker struggled as a blocker for MSU and it is what kept him off of the field throughout the season,” Linsner said. “His struggles in run blocking left the door open for other tight ends on the roster to earn equal to more snaps than Barker.”

Fit with the Packers

Barker is an athletic and versatile tight end. At Michigan State, Barker lined up all over for the Spartans. He saw snaps out wide, in the slot, in-line, and in the backfield.

With his size and athleticism, Barker could carve out a role as a weapon in the passing game for the Packers as a rookie.

Barker possesses strong receiving skills and the athleticism to create a mismatch,” Linsner said. “He has shown flashes of being a good blocker at Illinois, and even though it didn’t come fully to fruition in East Lansing, it is still an attainable skill for the tight end. I believe he has the tools to provide upside being a late-round selection in the draft.”

There are limitations with Barker as a blocker and that’s an obvious concern. Look past those concerns and a team will see a big-bodied tight end with the quickness to be a weapon in the passing game.

The Packers will likely be in the market for multiple tight ends in the upcoming draft and with his ability as a pass-catcher, Barker would be a solid addition on day three of the draft.

In a 7-3 game, with the Spartans driving and it being the first play of the second quarter, QB Payton Thorne lofted one to the endzone where it appeared he overthrew his transfer tight end. That was until Barker threw his hand up and made a huge one-handed snag for the touchdown.

Top three draft-eligible tight ends in the Big Ten

Top three draft-eligible tight ends in the Big Ten #GoBucks #BigTen

It is never too early to talk about the NFL Draft and one of the most polarizing and fun positions to discuss is the tight end position. The Big Ten conference has a rich history of tight ends and some would consider Iowa as TE U.

The bad news is no Ohio State players will be on this list, but you already know why. One reason there is no Buckeye on this list, Jeremy Ruckert is gone and the second reason is that Ohio State just never uses their tight end, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t legit talent at tight end in the Big Ten and the following are three of the best.
