Kirby Smart threw brutal shade at Dan Mullen for picking Florida to beat Georgia

Kirby Smart had some serious shade for Dan Mullen picking Florida to beat Georgia.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart kept the receipts after his team’s 43-20 win at Florida on Saturday.

To set the stage, former Florida head coach and current ESPN analyst Dan Mullen picked his old team to top the Bulldogs in an upset on Saturday, and Smart must’ve caught wind of Mullen’s hot take and mentioned it in his postgame press conference.

He threw some very direct shade at Mullen for picking the Gators and even said that Mullen “didn’t like to recruit” while he was Florida’s head coach.

Ouch! That is a genuine burn for the former Florida coach, who is probably now rethinking his game pick.

Smart has already been linked to some alleged subtle shade at Michigan for the sign-stealing scandal, but this is the kind of shade you just can’t miss.

Mullen might be sending a “my bad” text to Smart over the next couple of days for picking against Georgia, and we wonder if he’ll be predicting the Bulldogs the rest of the way out. It might not be a bad idea!

Former Florida coach Dan Mullen ranks top 10 after Week 7

Georgia football would not make Dan Mullen’s College Football Playoff if the season ended today

ESPN college football analyst and former Florida Gators and Mississippi State Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen ranked his top college football teams following Week 7.

Week 7 featured Washington defeating Oregon in a back-and-forth Pac-12 battle. Alabama survived against Arkansas. Georgia won, 37-20, on the road at Vanderbilt. USC lost in a ugly defeat at Notre Dame.

Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State continued to win in Week 7. Week 8 features a battle of Big 12 unbeatens between Ohio State and Penn State. In Week 7, UNC topped Miami to move to 6-0.

Where LSU stands in Dan Mullen’s updated top 25 after Week 4

The Tigers sit at No. 13 in Dan Mullen’s weekly college football top 25.

Former Florida coach and current ESPN analyst Dan Mullen updates his own weekly top 25 rankings after each weekend of college football action, and Mullen is mostly in line with the official polls when it comes to LSU.

Mullen ranks the Tigers at No. 13 this week after they survived a scare at home against Arkansas in which they needed a last-second field goal to win the game 34-31. That’s well ahead of LSU’s biggest threat in the SEC West, Alabama, which Mullen has down at No. 18.

Here’s Mullen’s full college football top 25 as we prepare to enter Week 5 and a pivotal matchup for LSU on the road against Ole Miss.

The Rebels are coming off a disappointing loss last week to Alabama, but they’ll look to bounce back against LSU in a game that could have serious implications for the division race.

Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers named top performers from Week 3 by Dan Mullen

The former Florida coach praised LSU’s star-studded offensive duo.

It was a career outing on Saturday against Mississippi State for both [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag].

Nabers was practically unguardable against the Bulldogs, reeling in all 13 of his targets for 239 yards and two touchdowns, the bulk of which came in the first half alone. Former Florida coach and now-ESPN analyst Dan Mullen named Nabers his top overall performer of the week in college football.

Mullen also put together a separate ranking for quarterbacks, and Daniels ranked No. 2 coming off a hyperefficient game in which he completed 30 of 34 passes for 361 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a pair of scores on the ground.

The duo was expected to be one of the most prolific quarterback/receiver combinations in the county, and this game was the first we had really seen them be in sync. Both were named SEC Co-Offensive Players of the Week for their efforts.

The Tigers will hope that trend continues as LSU enters the meat of SEC play.

Former Florida coach Dan Mullen ranks top 10 after Week 3

ESPN college football analyst Dan Mullen has named his top 10 college football teams after Week 3

ESPN college football analyst and former Florida Gators and Mississippi State Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen has named his top 10 college football teams after Week 3.

College football looks chaotic at the top right now. Week 3 featured close contests for many top college football teams. Florida State narrowly won on the road at Boston College. Georgia pulled away from South Carolina after trailing 14-3 at halftime. Texas and Alabama both struggled to gain separation for non-Power Five opponents after playing each other in Week 2.

Almost any team in Mullen’s top 10 is capable of making a run to the College Football Playoff.

Dan Mullen picks LSU over former team in Mississippi State

Dan Mullen is 12-3 for his picks on the year, and Tigers fans will hope his success continues this week.

Former SEC coach turned ESPN broadcaster Dan Mullen is 12-3 on the year with his picks against the spread, and LSU fans will hope that successful trend continues.

Mullen spent nine years as the coach at Mississippi State before taking over at Florida, where he spent most of four seasons, but he’s picking against his former team on Saturday.

The Tigers open SEC play on the road for a morning kick against the Bulldogs, and not only did Mullen pick LSU to win, but he also thinks the Tigers will cover a 9.5-point spread in Starkville.

He also picked against his other former team as he took Tennessee to win and cover against Florida in Gainesville, where the Volunteers haven’t won since 2003.

Here are all of Mullen’s picks for the week.

LSU will begin its SEC slate on Saturday morning against the Bulldogs at 11 a.m. CT.

Dan Mullen tosses barb at former program

Ahead of Florida’s Saturday game with Tennessee, former coach Dan Mullen said the team “might not be where they were” when he was in Gainesville

Dan Mullen spoke to ESPN’s Matt Barrie ahead of Florida’s Saturday night rivalry match with Tennessee, and he couldn’t resist taking a swipe at his former program.

“Florida might not be where they were a couple of years ago,” Mullen said.

Mullen was fired by the Gators near the end of the 2021 season. He went 34-15 as the head of UF’s program, but he went 5-6 in his final season and was fired before the final game. Fans bemoaned his lack of attention on recruiting. He never finished higher than 9th in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings.

The Gators have been 8-9 in their 17 games since Mullen left the program, including back-to-back bowl losses.

Former Gators HC Dan Mullen predicts Florida-Tennessee outcome

Former Florida head coach Dan Mullen traded in his orange and blue visor for a suit and analyst chair, and he’s not afraid to pick against his old team.

Dan Mullen knows Florida football. He was in Gainesville for the Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow years, and he returned to coach the program from 2018-2021.

After losing the Florida gig (and pocketing a $12 million buyout), Mullen has transitioned to the analyst chair. He’s now doing work for ABC and Disney, which means he gets to weigh in weekly on his former team.

With one of Florida’s three major rivalry games coming up against Tennessee — Florida State and Georgia being the others — Mullen is once again picking against the Gators.

“I’m going Tennessee,” Mullen said without any reluctance on the Matt Barrie Show. “I’m still on the Tennessee bandwagon until they get me off of it. Josh Heupel, the offense has looked good. Joe Milton can make all the plays and I trust Josh Heupel, honestly, to put him in positions to succeed.”

Mullen isn’t expecting a blowout, though. He knows just how intimidating the atmosphere in the Swamp can be, and he noted in his analysis that momentum can shift at the drop of a dime.

“Florida might not be where they were a couple of years ago, but they’re still Florida. They’re still going to be a good team. It’s still the Swamp on a Saturday night in a huge game.”

While it’s strange that Mullen didn’t take any responsibility for Florida’s downfall over the past few years, he’s not wrong in his assessment. The Gators aren’t the favorite heading into this game, and it would be a massive upset. The Volunteers are ranked No. 9 on the US LBM Coaches Poll and No. 11 on the AP Poll.

“In the Billy Napier era, (the Gators) are still waiting for that first marquee win. This would certainly be it for them, and it would be a great challenge for them.”

It sounds like Mullen doesn’t count the Utah win last year as a “marquee” victory, but perhaps he’s just locked in on the SEC rivalries. The conference’s slogan is “It just means more,” after all.
