Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots: Team connections

#Bills vs. #Patriots: Team connections:

The Buffalo Bills will host the New England Patriots for a matchup on Sunday afternoon in Week 17.

It’s a brand new NFL weekend with plenty on the line for both teams. But for some on the Bills (9-6) and Patriots (4-11) there is a bit more at stake than others.

That’s because multiple players or coaches for both sides are going to be playing against their former teams. That can create a little bit of extra motivation for them heading into Sunday… as expected.

With that, here’s a quick list of connections the two teams have with one another ahead of the upcoming matchup at Highmark Stadium:

Buffalo Bills place former Alabama RB Damien Harris on injured reserve

The Buffalo Bills placed former Alabama running back Damien Harris on injured reserve on Friday.

On Friday, the Buffalo Bills placed former Alabama running back Damien Harris on injured reserve. Harris suffered a neck injury in Week 6 against the New York Giants.

Harris will have to miss at least the next four games before he is eligible to be activated to the roster from the injured reserve.

Through six games, Harris played primarily as a power back for the Bills. Harris had 23 carries for 94 yards and one touchdown. During the offseason, he signed with the Bills on a one-year deal worth $1.7 million.

Harris previously played for the New England Patriots. He spent the first four seasons of his NFL career in the Patriots organization.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow former Alabama players in the NFL.

Bills sign RB Ty Johnson, place RB Damien Harris on injured reserve

Buffalo Bills sign RB Ty Johnson to 53-man roster, place RB Damien Harris on injured reserve.

The Bills have made some roster moves on Friday which were expected.

The team announced that running back Damien Harris was placed on injured reserve. Harris sustained a head/neck injury against the Giants last weekend during a 14-9 win.

Taking his place on the roster is Ty Johnson. The Bills (4-2) have signed Johnson ahead of facing the Patriots (1-5) on Sunday.

The transactions were expected because of another move that nearly happened but did not.

Reports earlier this week indicated that the Bills were going to bring Leonard Fournette in for a free-agent visit. The same update said that he was going to sign with the team in some capacity, likely their 53-man roster.

The Bills intended to do that because they were expecting Johnson to leave the practice squad and sign with another team. Any NFL team can sign players off another club’s practice squad each week, however, their original team has an option to sign that player to the active roster in order to keep them. That’s what the Bills did with Johnson after the Harris injury.

Fournette remains a free agent and it’s unclear if the Bills could have interest in him in the future. For now, Johnson fills out the team’s depth at running back.

On Harris, it’s unclear how long he will remain on the injured reserve list. Throughout this past week, he did not practice at all after being taken off the field last week with an ambulance. He was released from the hospital by Monday but is evidently still dealing with the injury.

Bills’ Ed Oliver out vs. Patriots

3 players ruled out for the #Bills:

The Buffalo Bills will be without Ed Oliver against the New England Patriots in Week 7.

According to head coach Sean McDermott during an appearance on the team’s radio partner WGR-550, Oliver will not suit up. Oliver has been listed on the injury report this week with a toe injury which he sustained against the New York Giants last week.

In that 14-9 win over the Giants, Oliver played a career-high total number of snaps: 87 percent. It was the second-straight game Oliver set a new career-high.

Speaking of career-highs, Oliver is on pace to set his single-season high for sacks. His rookie year he had five and through six games, Oliver already has recorded four.

Without Oliver, Jordan Phillips and Tim Settle could see extended snaps against the Patriots (1-5).

In addition to Oliver, the Bills (4-2) have ruled out tight end Quintin Morris (ankle) and running back Damien Harris (concussion).

Both sustained their injuries against the Giants as well. Harris was taken off the field in an ambulance but was released from the hospital on Monday.

Later on Friday Buffalo and New England will both release their full injury reports and designations for players ahead of Sunday’s game. Bills Wire will bring that information once it’s made available.

Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots: Team connections

Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots: Team connections:

The Buffalo Bills (3-2) are visiting the New England Patriots (1-5) in Week 7.

While a brand new NFL weekend, both teams are familiar with one another. Some players and coaches more than others.

Here’s a quick list of connections the two teams have with one another ahead of Sunday’s matchup:

Bills injury updates on Josh Allen, Damien Harris, more

#Bills injury updates on Josh Allen, Damien Harris, more:

Another week and another unfortunate series of injury updates for the Buffalo Bills.

Thankfully, there are not as negative follow-up reports like the ones we’ve seen that past few weeks.

Defensive back Tre’Davious White (Achilles), linebacker Matt Milano (knee) and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (pectoral) all sustained season-ending injuries over the past three games.

Then during Buffalo’s eventual 14-9 win over the New York Giants (1-5), another scary moment. Running back Damien Harris was taken off the field in an ambulance.

Thankfully, great news has followed. According to head coach Sean McDermott, Harris is already out of the hospital. He had been taken there as a precaution for a neck injury.

While his short-term health is not clear, leaving the hospital is a great sign. Harris has also entered the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Behind Harris, the name on the mind of most was quarterback Josh Allen. He indicated he sustained a shoulder injury and played through it against the Giants.

“He’s sore, but he’ll be alright,” McDermott said via video conference. “We’ll see where that goes.”

McDermott did not directly answer if the Bills (4-2) would have their QB1 against the New England Patriots next week. He only said Allen is day-to-day.

A clearer answer will be provided by the Bills’ injury reports released this week starting on Wednesday.

Regarding others who played against New York: Greg Rousseau (foot) missed last week’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and was said to be sore but otherwise OK in his return. Cornerback Cam Lewis (stinger) departed the Giants contest and was added to the day-to-day list as well.

A final, and another daily notion, was provided on Dane Jackson (foot). He did not play against the Giants and is day-to-day.

No word was provided on tight end Dalton Kincaid, who is in the NFL’s concussion protocol. It’s usually the norm for updates on players with concussions to be very limited.

Check back at Bills Wire throughout the upcoming week for the latest injury updates and reports.

Twitter reacts to ambulance called on field for Bills RB Damien Harris

Twitter was quick with sympathy Sunday night as Buffalo Bills RB Damien Harris left the game in the second quarter following an intense collision.

No NFL fan wants to see their team lose. What every NFL fan would like to see less are injuries. Oftentimes the collisions and results are a gritty reminder of, not only the brutality of the sport, but the fragility of good health and life itself.

A national audience was reminded of this reality Sunday night in Week 6 between the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants. On a third-and-1 from the Bills’ 34-yard line, Harris gained the yard, but collided with Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke hard enough to drop him backwards. The running back needed to be placed on a stretcher and an ambulance came onto the field.

Instead of staying sucked into the battle lines of the game, football fans took to Twitter to express their support and wishes of a speedy recovery for Harris.

Bills RB Damien Harris taken off field in ambulance after suffering neck injury

The Bills’ Damien Harris was taken to the hospital in an ambulance after suffering a neck injury

A frightening scene at Highmark Stadium in the second quarter Sunday as Buffalo Bills running back Damien Harris was injured and taken off the field in an ambulance.

Harris was hit on a running play and remained down on the field.

An ambulance was brought onto the turf and Harris was placed on a backboard. He raised a thumb to the crowd.

He was loaded into the ambulance and taken to a  hospital.

Harris suffered a neck injury and had feeling in his arms and legs.

Any such scene within the NFL — or the Bills, especially — brings back memories of last year’s incident when Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac event against the Bengals in Cincinnati.

Hamlin is still with the Bills. He was on the sidelines during the game with the Giants, inactive for the fifth time this season.

Ambulance takes Bills’ Damien Harris off field vs. Giants

#Bills RB Damien Harris taken off the field vs. the #Giants:

Another potentially scary injury scene unfolded for the Buffalo Bills in their Week 6 contest on Sunday Night Football against the New York Giants.

Running back Damien Harris was taken off of the turf at Highmark Stadium in an ambulance.

Harris went into a wall of Giants defenders on a third-down, short-yardage carry. Harris appeared to have potentially gone head-to-shoulder with an opposing player, causing a neck injury.

In the best update possible, Harris did provide the crowd with a thumbs up when laying on a board being attended to by medical staff.

The team also provided a similar update. Harris has movement and will be taken to Erie County Medical Center for further testing:

The scene was reminiscent of Buffalo’s extremely scary injury to Damar Hamlin in 2022. Thankfully, both had positive updates in due time relating to both of their injuries.

Bills Wire will provide updates when information is made available.
