Browns elevating WR/KR Chester Rogers and LB Dakota Allen vs. Chargers

The Browns are elevating two players from the practice squad for this week’s game against the Chargers.

The Cleveland Browns are elevating a pair of players for their Week 5 showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers. The first player is wide receiver/returnman Chester Rogers, with linebacker Dakota Allen joining the active roster for this game as well.

This will be Rogers’ second elevation, meaning the Browns can elevate him one more time off of the practice squad before they have to sign him to the active roster to see him on Sundays again. Expect Rogers to take over return duties, with Allen playing a great deal of special teams (or in case of emergency should Jacob Phillips continue to struggle).

Browns sign LB Dakota Allen who starred in ‘Last Chance U’ show

Last Chance U star has been a staple on special teams the last two years in the NFL:

The Cleveland Browns filled a spot on their 90-man roster Tuesday with the addition of LB Dakota Allen. Allen was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 2019 but never played for the team. Instead, Allen played two games for the Oakland Raiders and three for the Jacksonville Jaguars during his rookie season.

Allen then spent the last two years with the Jaguars playing in 27 games for the team. Primarily a special teams player, playing in 74% of Jacksonville’s snaps in that phase of the game, Allen has combined for 38 tackles in his three seasons.

With the Browns having a lot of turnover at the bottom of their roster, special teams units may have a big need that Allen can fill.

Prior to entering the NFL, Allen was a star on the Netflix hit show “Last Chance U” where he took advantage of the second chance to showcase his talents. He showed some hitting ability during the preseason with the Rams:

Allen could have an uphill climb for a roster spot but his special teams ability gives him a chance.

Jaguars inactives for Week 17 game vs. Patriots

The Jags have named their four inactive players for Week 17’s game in New England, two of which were the only players on the final injury report Friday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced their list of inactive players for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots and it included four players. Those players were cornerback Nevin Lawson, running back Mekhi Sargent, linebacker Dakota Allen, and tight end James O’Shaughnessy.

Allen (shoulder) and O’Shaughnessy (hip) were on Friday’s final injury report. The former was ruled questionable after being limited all week, while the latter was rule OUT after not practicing at all.

Both players sustained their respective injuries in Week 16’s game against the Jets. Allen’s injury was one that ruled him questionable to return, while O’Shaughnessy was hurt on the Jags’ last offensive drive of the game after hauling in a catch that was converted for a first-down. O’Shaughnessy was visibly in pain afterward and the team had to use a time out as a result.

The Jags just signed Sargent on Dec. 27, so there wasn’t a strong chance for him to play. However, the choice to sit Lawson is interesting as he’s one of the Jags most experienced cornerbacks with Shaquill Griffin on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

As for the Patriots’ list of inactive, they are as follows:

Jaguars final Week 17 injury report: TE James O’Shaughnessy ruled OUT vs. Patriots

The Jags had two players listed on their final injury report for this week and one of them, James O’Shaughnessy, was ruled OUT.

The Jacksonville Jaguars only had two players surface on their final injury report (due to several being on the Reserve/COVID-19 list) for Week 17’s game against the New England Patriots in linebacker Dakota Allen (shoulder) and tight end James O’Shaughnessy (hip). The former was ruled questionable while the latter was ruled OUT.

Both players exited last Sunday’s game against the New York Jets with their respective injuries and Allen was ruled questionable to return. Meanwhile, O’Shaughnessy’s injury seems to have occurred on a first-down conversion that the veteran caught during the offense’s last drive. He was visibly in pain after the catch and was grabbing his hip. The injury forced the Jags to use their last timeout, and as a result of it occurring so late, it wasn’t reported by the team.

With O’Shaughnessy ruled out, the Jags have two tight ends currently on the active roster in Kahale Warring and Luke Farrell. They also have Matt Sokol on the practice squad if needed.

As for the depth at linebacker, the Jags should be fine there if Allen can’t play because they had Myles Jack and Damien Wilson come off the Reserve/COVID-19 list today.

As for the Patriots, they ruled eight players questionable and one out. Among the notable players ruled out were cornerback J.C. Jackson (elbow), running back Damien Harris (hamstring), linebacker Dont’a Hightower (knee), and safety Kyle Dugger (hamstring). Veteran receiver Nelson Agholor (concussion) was the player who was ruled out.

Jaguars Week 17 injury report: LB Dakota Allen remains limited, TE James O’Shaughnessy misses practice again

The Jags injury report went from three players to two on Thursday as OL Will Richardson was place on the injured reserve with a finger injury.

With over 20 players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, the Jacksonville Jaguars only had two players surface on their injury report Thursday, and those players were linebacker Dakota Allen (shoulder) and tight end James O’Shaughnessy (hip). The former was limited, and the latter didn’t practice for the second consecutive day.

Both players sustained their injuries in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, but the Jags’ public relations department reported Allen’s injury, and he was ruled questionable to return.

The Jags previously had offensive lineman Will Richardson on the list with a finger injury, but he was placed on injured reserve Thursday. Richardson’s injury puts the Jags in a tough spot as the team has starting guards Ben Bartch and Andrew Norwell currently on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. However, the Jags could potentially use KC McDermott and Tyler Shatley in the interior and they also have the option to activate interior lineman Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms off the practice squad, too.

As for the New England Patriots, they only had one change to their injury report as guard Shaq Mason was added to it with an illness. Aside from his addition though, the rest of the Patriots’ injury report remained the same as notables like center David Andrews, running back Damien Harris, and cornerback J.C. Jackson were limited again. Meanwhile, receiver Nelson Agholor and safety Joshuah Bledsoe (who was placed on injured reserve) remained out.

Jaguars Week 17 injury report: OL Will Richardson, TE James O’Shaughnessy miss practice on Wednesday

With the Jags placing several players on Reserve/COVID-19, their injury report only had three players on it Wednesday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars‘ first injury report of the week only had three players on it, and that’s mostly due to the team having several players on the Reserve/ COVID-19 list. Those three players were linebacker Dakota Allen (shoulder), tight end James O’Shaughnessy (hip), and offensive lineman Will Richardson (finger). Both Richardson and O’Shaughnessy didn’t practice, while Allen was limited.

Of the three players, Richardson was the lone player on last week’s injury report, but it was with a different injury (back). He ended up starting Sunday against the New York Jets, though, and was able to garner a touchdown after falling on a Trevor Lawrence fumble in the end zone.

Allen exited Sunday’s game early with his injury and was ruled questionable to return. O’Shaughnessy’s injury also occurred in the game as he was injured after a catch he made and was visibly in pain when he got up.

As for the New England Patriots, they had 12 players on their injury report and 10 of them were limited. Among the group were notables like center David Andrews. defensive lineman Christian Barmore, running back Damien Harris, and cornerback J.C. Jackson, to name a few.

As for those who missed practice for the Patriots, receiver Nelson Agholor and safety Joshua Bledsoe were the lone two players who didn’t take the field on Wednesday.

Jaguars Week 6 injury report: LB Myles Jack not seen at practice after sustaining oblique injury

Myles Jack exited Week 5’s game with an oblique injury and wasn’t seen at practice Wednesday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released their first injury report for Week 6’s game in London against the Miami Dolphins and only two players missed practice on Wednesday.

One of those players was linebacker Myles Jack, who left Week 5’s game against Tennessee early with an oblique injury and wasn’t seen Wednesday. The other player to miss Wednesday’s session was receiver Marvin Jones Jr., who missed practice for a personal matter that wasn’t injury-related.

With Jack missing practice, Dakota Allen, who was able to be a full participant despite his shoulder injury, and Damien Wilson were the two players getting reps at inside linebacker. As fans witnessed Sunday, that would likely be the tandem the team rolls with on Sunday, too, if Jack is not able to play. They would also have Shaquille Quarterman available as a backup behind both veterans if needed.

Aside from Jack, Jones, and Allen, five other players surfaced on the injury report. On defense, those players were pass-rusher Lerentee McCray (hamstring), cornerback Tyson Campbell (toe), and defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris (ankle). McCray was a full participant, but Campbell and Robertson-Harris were limited, though coach Urban Meyer said he believes they could be back Sunday.

On offense, guard Ben Bartch (groin) and interior lineman Tyler Shatley (groin) were both limited. Their situations will be worth watching as they both are set to start Sunday with A.J. Cann and Brandon Linder on injured reserve.

Jags Week 5 injury update: Brandon Linder sustains MCL, ankle injuries vs. Titans

The Jags’ starting center was carted off Sunday against Tennessee, and according to Urban Meyer, it was for injuries to his MCL and ankle.

The Jacksonville Jaguars sustained a couple of notable injuries during Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans and two of them were to starters. Of course, the biggest one was to center Brandon Linder, who was carted off after a fourth-and-goal play where Carlos Hyde was stopped behind the line of scrimmage.

Linder sustained the injury while in the pile, and though the broadcast angle wasn’t clear, it looked as though his leg was twisted in the scrum. With him exiting the game, the Jags replaced him with Tyler Shatley, who saw a total of 15 snaps.

After the game, coach Urban Meyer told the media that Linder’s injury was an MCL and ankle injury that may not be as bad as many initially thought. With that being the case, his situation will be worth monitoring throughout the week, starting with Monday afternoon when Meyer meets with the media again.

The other starter who was injured was linebacker Myles Jack, who left the game with a back injury in the second half and was questionable to return. After his injury, backup linebacker Dakota Allen also sustained an injury (shoulder), which then forced Shaq Quarterman into action.

Heading forward, the situations of Jack and Allen will definitely be worth watching, too, as they could test the Jags’ depth at interior linebacker with a trip to London and a game against Miami coming up. As previously stated, some news could become available on Monday when Meyer speaks with the media, and the injury report, which comes out Wednesday, could also reveal a lot.

Jaguars LB Myles Jack questionable to return vs. Titans with back injury

Jack and his backup, Dakota Allen, are both questionable to return in the second half against Tennessee.

Jacksonville’s depth at the inside linebacker position will be tested in the second half against the Tennessee Titans, as star middle linebacker Myles Jack exited the game with a back injury. He was listed as questionable to return.

After Jack left the game, things got even worse for the Jaguars, as backup Dakota Allen also had to leave the field with a shoulder injury.

Without both available, second-year linebacker Shaquille Quarterman, who was one of the standouts in the preseason, has been filling in. The 2020 fourth-round pick entered Sunday’s game with just seven total tackles on the season.

The Jags’ defense has struggled against the Titans and currently trails 31-13 at the end of the third quarter. If Jacksonville is going to mount a fourth-quarter comeback, it will have to be without one of its top defensive players, as well as one of its top backups.

LB Dakota Allen returns to Jags on exclusive rights contract

The Jags brought back a familiar face to their defense Thursday in Dakota Allen.

According to the league’s transaction wire, the Jacksonville Jaguars have come to terms for linebacker Dakota Allen to return to the team. He showed up in the signing list for the league with an “exclusive rights signing” status next to his name.

Allen’s status is an indication that he was tendered as an exclusive rights free agent. With that being the case, Allen couldn’t sign with another team and his only choice as a player with less then three accrued seasons was to sign the one-year tender with Jacksonville. Under the tender, he’ll make the league minimum based on how many credited seasons he has to his name.

Allen entered the league as a seventh-round pick with the Los Angeles Rams in 2019. He was waived and spent some time with the Oakland Raiders then found himself back with the Rams. In December of 2019, the Jags snagged Allen off the Rams’ practice squad and he’s played in 16 games while starting in two since. He’ll enter the 2021 season with 18 combined tackles with the Jags and will provide depth for a linebacking group led by Myles Jack and Joe Schobert.
