Broncos place 2 players on IR, add 2 players to 53-man roster

Broncos moves: LB Dakota Allen and CB Darius Phillips to IR; OT Christian DiLauro and QB Jarrett Guarantano promoted to 53-man roster.

The Denver Broncos made several injury-related roster moves early this week ahead of a Christmas Day showdown with the Los Angeles Rams.

First, the Broncos placed linebacker Dakota Allen (hamstring) on injured reserve on Monday, the team announced. To fill Allen’s former spot on the 53-man roster, Denver promoted offensive tackle Christian DiLauro from the practice squad.

After that, the Broncos placed cornerback Darius Phillips (hamstring) on injured reserve on Tuesday, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Phillips is one of 11 Denver players who have missed time due to hamstring injuries this season.

To fill the spot created by Phillips’ move to IR, the Broncos promoted quarterback Jarrett Guarantano from the practice squad to the active roster, Brandon Krisztal of KOA Radio first reported on Tuesday.

Guarantano served as Denver’s backup quarterback behind Brett Rypien in Week 15. With Russell Wilson set to return this week, Guarantano will get bumped down to QB3 duties, but a promotion to the 53-man roster is a nice consolation.

Story update: The Broncos announced Tuesday evening that they also signed guard Parker Ferguson and defensive back Devon Key to the practice squad and released inside linebacker Harvey Langi.

Broncos injuries: RB Mike Boone returns to practice

Broncos RB Mike Boone was back at practice today and he seems to be on track to be elevated from injured reserve this week.

Denver Broncos running back Mike Boone (ankle) was back on the practice field Wednesday after sitting out the team’s last four games on injured reserve. Boone is still on IR, but his return to practice might be a sign that Denver plans to activate him to the 53-man roster later this week.

Meanwhile, another player on IR — outside linebacker Randy Gregory (knee) — remains sidelined.

“Randy — that’s still up in the air,” coach Nathaniel Hackett said Monday when asked about Gregory’s status. “He might need a little bit more time.”

Elsewhere on the injury front, wide receivers Jerry Jeudy (ankle) and KJ Hamler (hamstring) are still sidelined while linebacker Dakota Allen (hamstring) and tight end/fullback Andrew Beck (hamstring) are both “day-to-day” this week, according to Hackett.

Denver’s complete Wednesday injury report will be added below when it becomes available later today.

The Broncos will practice again on Thursday and Friday before releasing a final injury report with game statuses for Sunday.

Broncos buzz: Denver re-signed running back Devine Ozigbo and linebacker Harvey Langi to the practice squad on Wednesday.

Broncos sign LB Dakota Allen off of Browns’ practice squad

The Browns have lost linebacker Dakota Allen off of their practice squad as he has signed with the Denver Broncos

The Cleveland Browns added two players to their practice squad in safety Bubba Bolden and offensive tackle Will Holden. Despite this, they cut just one player from the practice squad in Jordan Meredith. Now, the second opening has cleared itself out as the Denver Broncos have signed linebacker Dakota Allen off of Cleveland’s practice squad.

Allen has spent time on the active roster this season and has been elevated to the gameday roster on occasion even after being released from the active roster. Allen is the second player to be signed off of the Browns’ practice squad this season after Shaun Jolly was taken by the Los Angeles Rams earlier in the season.

Broncos sign former star of Netflix’s popular ‘Last Chance U’ show

The Broncos are signing LB Dakota Allen, who you might remember from Netflix’s popular ‘Last Chance U’ show.

The Denver Broncos are signing linebacker Dakota Allen off the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad to their own 53-man roster, KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis first reported Tuesday.

Fans might recognize Allen’s name from his role on Netflix’s popular Last Chance U show that followed JUCO football programs. Allen initially began his college career at Texas Tech before being expelled when he was charged with second-degree robbery.

Allen then went on to play at East Mississippi Community College, where he starred in the second season Last Chance U as a key player on the show. The charges against him were later dropped and he returned to Texas Tech for his final two seasons of college football.

In 2019, Allen became the first player from the Last Chance U series to be drafted by an NFL team when the Los Angeles Rams selected him in the seventh round. After beginning his rookie season on L.A.’s practice squad, Allen went on to spend time with the Las Vegas Raiders. He later returned to the Rams before stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Browns.

Allen has played in 36 games in his career, earning three starts. The 27-year-old linebacker has totaled 30 tackles (including three behind the line of scrimmage) and one forced fumble as a pro. In Denver, he will provide depth at linebacker while primarily contributing on special teams.

Browns sign Thomas Graham Jr., Herb Miller to active roster, elevate 2 more vs. Bengals

The Browns have signed Thomas Graham Jr. and Herb Miller to their active roster, elevating two more for their game vs. the Bengals.

The Cleveland Browns opened up two roster spots this week when they placed both linebacker Jacob Phillips and offensive lineman Joe Haeg on Injured Reserve. With just four hours until game time, the Browns have filled those spots by signing cornerbacks Thomas Graham Jr. and Herb Miller to the active roster.

Additionally, the Browns have elevated linebacker Dakota Allen and tight end, Miller Forristall, to their gameday roster against the Cincinnati Bengals tonight. With the injury to David Njoku, and with Pharaoh Brown just emerging from the concussion protocol, the elevation of Forristall makes a great deal of sense. With Phillips likely out for the season, adding another gameday linebacker to the mix in Allen also adds up.

The Browns will look to end their four-game skid with a home win over the Bengals tonight.

Browns also elevating LB Dakota Allen from practice squad

The Browns are elevating Dakota Allen to the active roster in addition to Herb Miller for the game against the Baltimore Ravens

The busy week of linebacker Dakota Allen continues. First, he was signed to the active roster of the Cleveland Browns a week ago but was then released this week in anticipation of the activation of Deion Jones. He was then added back to the practice squad, and now will be elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

It was already reported by The OBR’s Brad Stainbrook that cornerback Herb Miller would be elevated from the practice squad, and now we know the second player. While it was already reported that it was going to happen, linebacker Deion Jones has officially been activated from the Injured Reserve as well.

Browns sign LB Dakota Allen back to practice squad

After releasing him from the active roster earlier this week, the Browns have signed Dakota Allen back to their practice squad

After releasing him from the active roster earlier this week, the Cleveland Browns have signed linebacker Dakota Allen back to their practice squad. The Browns cleared a spot on their practice squad yesterday by releasing 2021 sixth round safety Richard LeCounte III from the practice squad.

Allen’s release from the active roster is almost a sure-sign signal that linebacker Deion Jones is going to be activated from Injured Reserve this week. Thus far this season, Allen has been elevated from the practice squad once, then signed to the active roster last week. Allen may once again get an opportunity to dress on gamedays for the Browns in 2022.

Browns Morning Roundup: Deshaun Watson news, film rooms, and more

Catch up on yesterday’s news as we dive into a Wednesday edition of Browns Morning Roundup.

Happy Wednesday Cleveland Browns fans! What better way to start your day than with a mid-week edition of Browns Morning Roundup? Unfortunately, yesterday was a bit of a slower day in terms of news and content, but there is still a handful of items to recap.

This could be a good thing, however, as we are not talking about devastating injuries, locker room dysfunction, or other tumultuous things. At the end of the day, low news is better than bad news!

From Deshaun Watson to Myles Garrett, to some linebacker news, let’s dive right in before the news starts pouring in again today.

Browns release LB Dakota Allen, Deion Jones return imminent

With the return of Deion Jones looking likely, the Cleveland Browns have released linebacker Dakota Allen.

After signing him to the active roster at the end of last week, the Cleveland Browns have released linebacker Dakota Allen from the active roster. This move likely signals the imminent activation of the newest member Deion Jones from Injured Reserve in the coming days.

Allen has been elevated from the practice squad, then signed to the active roster this season, so there is reason to believe he will land back on the Cleveland practice squad should he clear waivers after this move.

Jones just had the last year of his contract terminated after the two sides agreed to restructure his contract. He will have an 11-game tryout both for the Browns and 31 other teams to prove he still has the same juice in his body he had three years ago.

Browns make slew of roster moves for matchup vs. Patriots

As the Cleveland Browns prepare for the New England Patriots, they have made a slew of roster moves.

With the New England Patriots on the docket tomorrow at FirstEnergy Stadium, the Cleveland Browns have made three roster moves. Unfortunately, one of those moves was not the activation of newly acquired linebacker Deion Jones, as he likely makes his debut next week against the Baltimore Ravens.

Elevations from the practice squad are not a new thing for all 32 teams, and churning the bottom of the roster is a common practice by the Browns. Both of these are moves they made today, as well as the activation of a player off of Injured Reserve and back onto the active roster.

We take a look at the three roster moves here and discuss their repercussions.
