What 5-star WR Dallas Wilson’s flip means for Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks saw 5-star WR Dallas Wilson flip his commitment, so here’s how that fallout could impact the program.

Oregon Duck fans woke up to the unfortunate news on Thursday morning that one of the best players in their 2025 signing class, 5-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson, was requesting to be released from his papers and leave the school.

Wilson, who is rated as the No. 20 overall player and No. 3 WR in the 2025 class, signed with Oregon earlier this month on National Signing Day after being the longest-tenured commit in Oregon’s class, giving his verbal back in January of 2023.

There were bumps along the road, with rumors swirling that Wilson would flip to the Florida Gators in the late hours before signing day began. In the end, Wilson did end up pulling the rip-cord, and will likely end up with the Gators now.

So what does this mean for the Ducks? That’s the only question that matters now. Let’s dive in.

Where the 2025 Recruiting Class Stands

Before the news broke about Wilson, Oregon had the No. 2 ranked recruiting class in the 2025 cycle, sitting behind only the Texas Longhorns. With the loss of the 5-star, the Ducks saw their ranking slide down to No. 5 in the nation.

Still pretty great, considering.

There aren’t many teams in the nation that could withstand the loss of the No. 3 WR in the class and still be set up for success, but Oregon was uniquely positioned to do so. The Ducks signed 5-star WR Dakorien Moore in this cycle, the No. 1 WR in the nation and No. 4 overall player. They also have 4-star WR Cooper Perry signed in this class as well.

Oregon’s Current WR Outlook

In most cases, the loss of a true freshman might not have a significant impact on the depth chart, but when you’re talking about a player as talented as Wilson, it’s something to consider. There’s no telling how big of a role he was going to have in 2025, but it will be interesting to see how the Ducks treat the WR position now this offseason.

With the loss of Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden, there was already a good chance that Oregon would try to find a receiver in the transfer portal, mainly dependent on the future of Evan Stewart, who is considering a return to Eugene for one more season. Does the loss of Wilson further increase the need to add a WR in the portal? It’s tough to say. If the Ducks were looking to add a receiver before getting this news, then nothing changes. If they were on the fence about it, then this might have pushed them into the “take” category.

Regardless, the Ducks have a lot of talent at the WR position, both young and old, and should be able to withstand this blow with ease in 2025.

Oregon’s Future WR Outlook

The biggest impact that Wilson’s departure will have is on the future of the WR room in Eugene, and once again, it’s hard to argue against the fact that the Ducks are uniquely positioned to withstand this. Under wide receivers coach Junior Adams, Oregon has recruited the WR position as well as anyone in the nation, and they have stocked the coffers for years to come out wide.

Not only do they have Dakorien Moore and Cooper Perry in this class, plus Jeremiah McClellan, Ryan Pellum, and Dillon Grisham from 2024 — all players ranked in the top 200 nationally — but fans often forget about the commitment of 5-star WR Gatlin Bair last year. The No. 27 player in the 2024 class is currently on an LDS mission and is set to join the program a year from now. Bair is considered one of the fastest players in the nation, holding a 10.15-second time in the 100 meters.

If you had the option of keeping Wilson or not, obviously you would want him on your team. However, the Ducks have recruited at WR as well, if not better than any team in the nation over the past few years, and they continually hit the transfer portal as well. By no means is this a death blow to the program.

Dez Bryant shows love for Oregon Ducks 5-star WR Dakorien Moore

Oregon Ducks 5-star WR Dakorien Moore turned heads on Saturday, and elicited a strong reaction from Dallas Cowboys legend Dez Bryant.

Former Dallas Cowboys legend Dez Bryant took to social media on Saturday afternoon to let Oregon Duck fans that they got an incredibly talented player with the signing of 5-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore in the 2025 class.

As if Oregon fans didn’t already know.

It was a play from Moore in the Texas High School Football semifinals that caught Bryant’s attention, though, with the No. 1 WR in the 2025 class doing what he has done so many times this year — taking the ball to the house after catching it in space and making a number of defenders miss in highlight fashion.

@Oregonfootball I’m at the game and I just saw DKM do some crazy shit for 6.. y’all got 1 for sure!” Bryant said on social media.

For those wondering what exactly it was that Moore did on the field to elicit that type of response from a three-time NFL Pro Bowler, you can see it here.

Moore was the No. 1 WR in the 2205 class for a reason, and it’s plays like this that he made all season that makes it clear he is among the best players to ever sign with the Ducks.

As a true freshman, there is an expectation that Moore will immediate step in and contend for a starting spot in the offense, much like Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, or Alabama’s Ryan Williams in 2024.

LSU to host 5-star Alabama commit as Ole Miss comes to town

LSU is set to host a big time receiving prospect this weekend.

LSU is set for a big recruiting weekend as No. 9 Ole Miss comes to town. A notable name on the visitors list is five-star Alabama commit Caleb Cunningham.

The new was reported by On3’s Chad Simmons on Friday morning.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Cunningham is the No. 2 ranked receiver in the 2025 class and No. 16 overall prospect. A Mississippi native, Cunningham committed to Alabama in July.

Despite the Bama pledge, LSU remains involved in his recruitment. Cunningham told On3 that he’s still 100% with Alabama, but LSU “is trying to make their way back in this thing.”

It’s a long shot, but Cunningham would be a major flip for an already-loaded LSU recruiting class. The Tigers already have three five-stars on board, including five-star QB [autotag]Bryce Underwood[/autotag].

LSU has been involved with multiple five-star receivers this cycle but is yet to add an industry five-star to the group. LSU’s top-ranked receiving commit is four-star [autotag]Derek Meadows[/autotag], who ranks 52nd overall in the On3 Industry Rankings.

Overall, LSU’s 2025 class ranks fourth nationally and has 26 commits. The class is close to being finalized, but there are always a few surprises when the season ends and national signing day rolls around. LSU will have a chance to impress some big-time recruits with official visits during SEC play.

One Oregon Duck 5-star, several Duck flip targets on 2025 ‘Freaks List’

5-star Oregon Ducks commit Dakorien Moore and a handful of flip targets have been named to the 2025 recruiting Freaks List.

Over the past decade, Bruce Feldman’s “Freaks List” at The Athletic has become quite popular in the world of college football and the NFL.

If you’re unaware of what the Freaks List is, it highlights the athletes who aren’t just the best at what they do, but the most uniquely gifted and physically able among everyone in the sport.

It’s a concept that has inspired copies, and recently, 247Sports has started putting out its own Freaks List for incoming high school recruits. On the 2025 version of that list, Oregon Duck fans will rejoice that their 5-star wide receiver commit, Dakorien Moore, is listed at No. 10.

Here’s what 247Sports had to say about Moore, who is the No. 1 rated recruit in Oregon school history.

It’s hard to really put a thumb on what makes Moore a bonafide freak and that might be what truly makes Moore special. Sure, he’s got the track figures (10.4 seconds in the 100-meter dash, more than 23 feet in the long jump) and a 1,500-yard receiving season to his credit while facing some of the best competition in America, but the true X factor for Moore might be how he’s wired.

Moore is one of the few players to ever get snaps on both sides of the ball at the Texas powerhouse that is Duncanville, and he’s been nothing but sticky in coverage when asked to pull double-duty. Evan Stewart (No. 3 on 2022 Freaks List) should provide plenty of fireworks for the Ducks this season and Moore, who ranks No. 5 overall in the Top247, has what it takes to be another game-breaker in Eugene.

While Moore was the only current Oregon commit to make the list, there are a number of players who are either uncommitted or prime flip targets for the Ducks who did make the cut.

Among them are No. 1 S Jonah Williams, committed to Texas, No. 14 ATH Michael Terry III, uncommitted, and No. 16 TE Linkon Cure, committed to Kansas.

5-star Oregon WR Dakorien Moore drops defender with nasty juke move

This nasty juke from Dakorien Moore is absolutely worth your time.

Dakorien Moore is the highest-rated player to commit to the Oregon Ducks in school history. The five-star Texan is rated No. 3 overall and No. 1 among wide receivers in the nation.

So, it’s not surprising he’s already providing jaw-dropping highlights early in his senior year of high school. After seeing what he did in Duncanville High School’s game on Friday night, Ducks fans may be even more excited to see what Moore can do once he lands in Eugene.

After catching a ball on the left sideline, Moore unleashed a flurry of jukes that left defenders in the dust before trotting in for an easy touchdown. It’s the type of play you see from college or NFL players, but seldom witness this type of agility and playmaking ability at the high school level.

Take a look at the video of Moore dropping his defender with ease.

As the high school season continues, we will undoubtedly see more highlights from Moore and will have to wait patiently to see him in the green and yellow.

LSU makes the final cut for 5-star receiver Jaime Ffrench

Jaime Ffrench is set to commit on Aug. 30, and he trimmed his list of finalists down to four teams.

LSU has the chance to add an elite receiver to its 2025 recruiting class when five-star Jacksonville wideout [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag] announces his commitment on Aug. 30.

Competition is stiff for Ffrench, but the Tigers remain in the mix and made his final four schools on Friday. They’re joined by Texas, Miami and Tennessee.

It may be a bit of an uphill battle for LSU to land Ffrench, who ranks as the No. 18 player nationally per both the 247Sports composite and On3 industry rankings. Texas received a 247Sports crystal ball in June, and the Longhorns are a 57% favorite for Ffrench, per On3.

LSU already has commitments from receivers [autotag]Derek Meadows[/autotag], a five-star depending on which service you look at, and four-star [autotag]TaRon Francis[/autotag]. Now, the Tigers will hope to add a consensus five-star after No. 1 overall receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] decommitted earlier this summer and later flipped to Oregon.

Can LSU add a consensus 5-star receiver to its 2025 class?

LSU is looking to add a five-star receiver to its class with Jaime Ffrench taking another visit to Baton Rouge.

LSU’s 2025 recruiting class is loaded at the top. According to the On3 industry rankings, LSU has three five-star commits with QB [autotag]Bryce Underwood[/autotag], CB [autotag]DJ Pickett[/autotag] and RB [autotag]Harlem Berry[/autotag] in the fold.

The Tigers lost a five-star earlier this cycle when receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] backed off his pledge and later committed to Oregon. LSU did a fine job recovering, landing four-star [autotag]Derek Meadows[/autotag], but LSU could take its receiver class to another level with the addition of composite five-star [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag].

Ffrench is visiting LSU this weekend and the Tigers will hope to make a strong final impression with French’s commitment date approaching next month.

ESPN is the highest on Ffrench, ranking him as the No. 2 receiver in the class. 247Sports and Rivals also consider Ffrench a top-25 overall prospect.

LSU isn’t the favorite by any means. The On3 recruiting prediction machine gives Texas the best shot while the most recent 247Sports crystal ball favors Texas too. Miami is also a factor in the Florida prospect’s recruitment.

At one point, Ohio State’s chances looked pretty good. Earlier this year, three crystal balls were entered for the Buckeyes.

If LSU wants a shot at the No. 1 class in the country, it needs to land Ffrench. The addition would tie LSU with Alabama’s leading mark of four five-stars and increase LSU’s average recruit rating, which leads the country.

Ffrench would also give LSU three blue-chip receivers in 2025, joining Meadows along with Louisiana four-star [autotag]Taron Francis[/autotag].

Texas might be feeling good about this one, but LSU is certainly making a run for Ffrench’s services. He’s scheduled to commit on Aug. 30.

Prized 5-star receiver Derek Meadows commits to LSU

The Tigers withstood a late push from Notre Dame to land their top uncommitted receiver target.

LSU’s 2025 recruiting class truly has the potential to be something special.

On Saturday, a group that was already a consensus top-five class nationally got even better with the addition of five-star 2025 receiver [autotag]Derek Meadows[/autotag] as the elite Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) pass-catcher announced his commitment to the Tigers.

It’s a major pickup at a position of need for LSU, which previously held a commitment from the class’ No. 1 receiver, [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag], who decommitted in May and recently pledged to Oregon. Meadows isn’t quite as highly rated, but he ranks as the No. 41 player nationally in the On3 industry rankings, which have him as a four-star despite his five-star rating from 247Sports.

Meadows had reportedly made up his mind in favor of the Tigers ahead of his original commitment date of last Saturday, according to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, but he delayed the decision amid late pushes from his other finalists: Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia and Michigan.

The Fighting Irish in particular were considered to be making the strongest push for Meadows, but LSU was able to withstand the pressure and bring Meadows on board.

LSU’s class moved up from third to fourth according to 247Sports with Meadows’ commitment, and it could be moving up in the rankings from On3 — which already pegged the Tigers’ class at No. 3 — as well.

LSU’s 2025 recruiting class has the nation’s highest average player rating per On3

After things slowed down for a few months, LSU has recaptured the momentum on the recruiting trail.

The Tigers came out of the gate red-hot in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

They quickly gained commitments from the top receiver, running back and receiver in the cycle while jumping out to a No. 1 ranking, but things cooled off a bit during the summer.

Five-star receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] decommitted and later flipped to Oregon, and four-star cornerback [autotag]Jaboree Antoine[/autotag] left the class as well and will now decide between LSU and Miami on Saturday.

But the last few weeks saw the Tigers get some momentum back. After landing top-100 EDGE [autotag]Damien Shanklin[/autotag] and several other defensive commits during the first week of July, LSU added five-star [autotag]DJ Pickett[/autotag] — the nation’s top cornerback — to the class on Wednesday.

Pickett’s addition moved the Tigers’ class up to No. 3 nationally per On3, but when it comes to average player rating, LSU leads the nation at 92.49, just barely edging out Oregon and Ohio State.

There’s a lot of time between now and signing day, and LSU still needs to close things out with this class. But if it continues at this pace, it will bring in one of the program’s top signing classes in recent memory.

5-Star OT Jackson Cantwell names Oregon as a top school

OT Jackson Cantwell, a consensus top five recruit in the class of 2026, placed the Oregon Ducks among his top schools.

Dan Lanning’s unrelenting magnetism on the recruiting trail is continuing. After securing a commitment in the class of 2025 from 5-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore, 4-star offensive tackle Alai Kalaniuvalu announced his Oregon commitment, and that’s not where the Ducks offensive line recruiting success ends.

On Thursday, Jackson Cantwell, a 5-star OT in the class of 2026, announced his top 14 schools through On3Sports’s Hayes Fawcett, which included the Oregon Ducks and several other Big Ten schools.

While recruiting him, Dan Lanning will have the advantage of sharing the home state of Missouri with Cantwell. Cantwell hails from Nixa, about three hours south of Kansas City, which is Lanning’s hometown. Lanning has spoken before about his desire to use his Missouri connection in recruiting, and adding Cantwell would be a great way to use it.

Cantwell is a highly sought-after prospect, and after seeing his height and weight numbers, it’s easy to understand why. At six feet eight inches and 305 pounds, Cantwell is a force protecting the edge, but his size along with his strong technique has made him a consensus top-five recruit in the class of 2026.

After this season, the Oregon Ducks will likely lose both of their starting tackles — LT Josh Conerly and RT Ajani Cornelius. Although they’ve recruited the position well in the past few cycles, Cantwell is so talented his addition to the Ducks roster could be immediately impactful, especially by the time 2026 rolls around.
