Five-star UNC football target cuts list down to final six

A top UNC football recruiting target has cut his list down to six and has set a decision date for November to end his recruitment.

The recruitment for five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Daevin Hobbs[/autotag] is nearing an end here this Fall.

The Concord, North Carolina product made an important update to his recruitment on Wednesday, cutting his list of 26 offers down to a final six and setting an announcement date. Hobbs will make his decision on November 25th and will pick between UNC, Ohio State, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Michigan.

The final six list is filled with college powers, making a tough task ahead for UNC to keep the talented recruit in the state of North Carolina.  The 6-foot-4, 262-pound Hobbs is a top 50 overall prospect and is ranked No. 1 overall in the state of North Carolina.

Hobbs has made a few different visits so far, taking trips to UNC, Auburn, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Georgia. He’s scheduled to head to Alabama this weekend for a visit.

Right now, it’s tough to project who is in the lead in this recruitment and while the Tar Heels have the three predictions on the 247Sports crystal ball, those all came over the Summer or back in May. And things may have changed in his recruitment since then.

New defensive end target emerges for Clemson

Clemson has begun to expand its recruiting board at the defensive end position.

Even after the addition of St. John’s (Washington, D.C.) four-star edge rusher David Ojiegbe and Woodward Academy four-star AJ Hoffler, defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall and other members of Clemson’s defensive coaching staff are in pursuit of some additional targets in the class of 2023.

One of those targets is Jay M Robsinon (Concord, N.C) four-star Daevin Hobbs, who The Clemson Insider spoke with on Friday regarding his current recruitment.

TCI previously spoke with Hobbs back in May. It was then that he told us that he talked with Robbie Caldwell, who now serves as the program’s Director of High School relations. The goal of that conversation was to get Hobbs to come down and participate in the Dabo Swinney Camp, which he did on June 1.

“It was an experience,” Hobbs said regarding last month’s Swinney Camp. “I like his coaching style a lot from what I had seen at camp. All the coaches really, I like the environment and the energy they give off, so I really enjoyed that.”

According to Hobbs, Hall likes his size and, of course, his athletic ability off the edge.

Hobbs said that he spoke with Hall earlier this week. He indicated that the conversation was solely focused on catching up since the last time he was down at Clemson. They were just talking about where things stand with Hobbs and his recruitment, as they focus on building a relationship at this juncture in time.

What would it mean for Hobbs and his recruitment to earn an offer from a school like Clemson?

“That would be great,” he said back in May. “I’ve always watched them on TV on Saturdays. It would be cool to get an offer from them. They’re close, they’re not too far from here.”

At this time, there were no conversations regarding a potential visit, so don’t expect Hobbs to be in attendance for Monday’s All-In Cookout.

The Tar Heel State product announced via social media Wednesday that he will be postponing his commitment date. Hobbs had tentatively announced that he would be making a decision next month and named a top-six that features Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Hobbs also took two official visits to Auburn and North Carolina this summer.

“I just want to make sure I’m making the right decision, take a step back and look at everything again,” Hobbs said. “Whenever I feel ready, I’m gonna get a whole new date. I don’t have a date right now in mind. Right now, I’m just going with the flow and whatever it’s time do, I’ll make a new date

When it comes time for Hobbs to make a decision, what are going to be some of the more important things he’s looking for in a school at the next level?

“Of course, the feeling I get when I’m on campus,” he said. “Everything outside of campus, like the school, people on campus, pretty much all those boxes. And of course, the ability to go to the next level from the school I choose. My end goal is to go to the NFL, so I’m gonna try to pick my best option to take me there and for one of the coaches to develop me.”

Hobbs (6-6, 240) currently ranks as the nation’s No. 21 defensive lineman and the No. 136 overall prospect in the class of 2023, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Auburn defensive line target sets commitment date

An Auburn defensive line target has set his commitment date, but it may be tough for Bryan Harsin and his squad to land him.

A four-star defensive lineman the Tigers are targeting is set to announce his commitment soon.

2023 recruit Daevin Hobbs, who officially visited Auburn on June 17, announced via Twitter that he will be announcing his commitment on Aug. 1 at 6:30. Auburn is one of a number of teams that Hobbs is considering, but it might be tough for [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] and staff to land his commitment come the beginning of the month.

The good news is that Hobbs himself told On3 that Auburn was a “top option” the day after his visit, which may bode well for the hopes of Auburn fans. The bad news, however, is that 247Sports heavily projects Hobbs to choose North Carolina in the ACC — a school in his home state.

It’s increasingly looking as if the Tigers will have had to have really impressed Hobbs during his visit and in the weeks after to land him, but it should be interesting to see where he ends up going regardless. Auburn could certainly use the talent, as the Tigers have offered 33 different defensive linemen without a commitment from any of them. Harsin has been under pressure from fans and critics alike for his lack of recruiting prowess, but winning over Hobbs could be a big step for his potential to silence them.

Auburn offers four-star DL Daevin Hobbs

Auburn has entered the mix for one of the best players in North Carolina.

Auburn extended an offer to four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Daevin Hobbs[/autotag] on Monday. Hobbs is one of the best players from North Carolina in the 2023 recruiting class.

Auburn is looking to replenish the depth and add star power along the defensive line in the 2023 class and Hobbs would do just that.

It may be tough for Auburn to pull Hobbs out of his home state though. The North Carolina Tar Heels are heavily involved and already have one 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction to land him.

Hobbs is ranked as the No. 218 overall player and No. 31 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite recruiting ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 5 player from North Carolina.

Hobbs, who is 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, is from Concord, North Carolina. He excels at both football and basketball for Jay M. Robinson. He was the basketball teams leading scorer and made 39 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, 8.0 sacks, and forced one fumble in 10 games last season on the gridiron.
