Auburn defensive line target sets commitment date

An Auburn defensive line target has set his commitment date, but it may be tough for Bryan Harsin and his squad to land him.

A four-star defensive lineman the Tigers are targeting is set to announce his commitment soon.

2023 recruit Daevin Hobbs, who officially visited Auburn on June 17, announced via Twitter that he will be announcing his commitment on Aug. 1 at 6:30. Auburn is one of a number of teams that Hobbs is considering, but it might be tough for [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] and staff to land his commitment come the beginning of the month.

The good news is that Hobbs himself told On3 that Auburn was a “top option” the day after his visit, which may bode well for the hopes of Auburn fans. The bad news, however, is that 247Sports heavily projects Hobbs to choose North Carolina in the ACC — a school in his home state.

It’s increasingly looking as if the Tigers will have had to have really impressed Hobbs during his visit and in the weeks after to land him, but it should be interesting to see where he ends up going regardless. Auburn could certainly use the talent, as the Tigers have offered 33 different defensive linemen without a commitment from any of them. Harsin has been under pressure from fans and critics alike for his lack of recruiting prowess, but winning over Hobbs could be a big step for his potential to silence them.
