LOOK: The best photos from Colorado’s first win of 2023

Colorado secured its biggest win in years on Saturday with a 45-24 upset of the No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs. The college football world will be buzzing for a while after this one with new Buffs Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders and Dylan Edwards all dazzling in head coach Deion Sanders’ first Power Five win.

Multiple school records were set and it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that there are two Heisman candidates in Boulder.

Relive Colorado’s last win as a member of the Big 12

Under interim head coach Brian Cabral, who remains on Colorado’s current football staff as a character coach, the Buffaloes bested Kansas State in their last home football game as members of the Big 12.

The date was Nov. 20, 2010. Colorado, set to join the Pac-12 Conference in a matter of months, entered the contest 4-6 and still within reach of a bowl game while the Wildcats had already secured their sixth win.

The Buffs fell behind 14-3 early before rattling off 27 unanswered points, six of which came from a 23-yard touchdown pass from running back Rodney Stewart to Toney Clemons. Stewart would finish the 44-36 win with 201 yards rushing and a pair of TDs via the ground as well.

Colorado’s tenure in the Pac-12 will go down as short-lived. And at least on the gridiron, largely unsuccessful. Change is soon coming, though, with the university announcing on Thursday that it will rejoin the Big 12 Conference next summer.

The Buffs’ upcoming final year in the Pac-12 will certainly be strange, but it could also be fruitful. New head coach Deion Sanders is setting new expectations on the football side of things, the men’s basketball team is loaded with talent and the women’s program should enter the season ranked.

The 2023 Pac-12 football media day is officially in the books.

This year’s event was held on Friday and featured coaches and players from across the conference sharing their thoughts on what should be an entertaining upcoming season.

For Colorado, defensive coordinator Charles Kelly attended in place of head coach Deion Sanders, who on Thursday underwent a successful follow-up surgery to remove blood clots in his legs. The Buffs were also represented by quarterback Shedeur Sanders and cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter.

Take a photographic look back at Rick George’s 10-year tenure as CU athletic director

Love him or hate him, University of Colorado athletic director Rick George is riding high after shocking the college football world last winter with his hiring of Deion Sanders. Yes, it’s still unclear exactly how the 2023 season will pan out, but George deserves a great deal of credit for putting the Buffaloes back in the national spotlight.

Outside of football, CU men’s basketball put together a respectable past decade and the women’s team has been revitalized under head coach JR Payne.

After hauling in 446 receiving yards and five touchdowns at Jackson State last season, wide receiver Willie Gaines announced on April 18 that he’ll be reuniting with head coach Deion Sanders at the University of Colorado.

Gaines is currently navigating his first summer at the Power Five level alongside some familiar company, including Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter and Sy’veon Wilkerson, to name a few other Tigers-turned-Buffs

Prior to playing at Jackson State, Gaines spent time with both Toledo and Dodge City Community College.

Take a photographic look at what the #cubuffs are getting in safety Myles Slusher

While it’s currently unclear how Colorado’s depth chart will look heading into the season opener, I’m going to buy some early stock in Myles Slusher.

Yes, the former Arkansas safety will have to prove himself over Trevor Woods, Cam’Ron Silmon and Shilo Sanders, but Slusher owns both experience and success at the Power Five level.

During his three seasons with the Razorbacks, the former four-star prospect appeared in 23 games with 15 starts, 93 total tackles, seven pass deflections and two interceptions. Plus, he showed an ability to play behind the line of scrimmage with nine TFLs and 2.5 sacks — not bad for a defensive back

Having fun, Buffs fans?

Head coach Deion Sanders and his staff are revamping Colorado’s roster at a rapid pace with nearly 20 transfers committing since the Buffs’ spring football season concluded on April 22.

Former Florida State defenders Derrick McLendon II, Brendan Gant and Omarion Cooper were a few of the first big names to join along with SEC transfers Amari McNeill, Jahquez Robinson, Tar’Varish Dawson and David Conner. But Coach Prime is far from finished adding as several scholarship spots remain available to work with.

LOOK: The best pictures from a snow spring game in Boulder

Not even near-freezing temperatures and a blanket of snow could keep Buffs fans from packing Folsom Field on Saturday for Colorado’s first spring football game under head coach Deion Sanders.

A spring game program record of 47,277 strong filled the stands to watch Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter and several other new names face off in what was essentially a glorified scrimmage.

Highlights of the day included returning WR Montana Lemonious-Craig’s 98-yard touchdown reception, multiple explosive runs from incoming freshman Dylan Edwards and an honorary opening kick from 98-year-old super fan Peggy Coppom.

Spring football is flying by at the University of Colorado.

The Buffaloes are now into their third week of practice and CB/WR Travis Hunter, DL Shane Cokes and WR Jimmy Horn Jr. have all earned their uniform numbers with several others knocking on the door to join them. Incoming freshman RB Dylan Edwards, QB Shedeur Sanders, safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig, TE Seydou Traore and walk-on RB Charlie Offerdahl have also impressed early and are possible candidates to earn their digits soon.
