Nahmier Robinson, son of Nate Robinson, commits to Colorado football

Nahmier Robinson, the son of longtime NBA player Nate Robinson, is now a CU Buff

Nahmier Robinson, the son of longtime NBA player and former Washington Huskies two-sport star Nate Robinson, announced his commitment to Colorado on Friday, assumedly as a preferred walk-on.

The younger Robinson recently graduated from Skyline High School in Sammamish, Washington, where he played both basketball and football. During his senior season on the gridiron, the cornerback Robinson recorded an impressive five interceptions, six passes defended and 36 total tackles. He also had over 500 combined receiving and rushing yards on offense.

A three-star prospect according to 247Sports, Robinson owns other walk-on offers from Washington and Colorado State, plus a scholarship offer from Portland State.

The Buffaloes also received a preferred walk-on commitment from former IMG Academy DB Isreal Solomon on Friday.

Colorado football recruiting: Buffs earn pledge from Oklahoma athlete Morgan Pearson

Morgan Pearson is now Colorado’s highest-rated 2023 commit

Despite not having a full-time head coach in place, Colorado football hasn’t slowed down much in the recruiting game.

The Buffs’ latest snag came Monday in the form of 2023 athlete Morgan Pearson. It’s not completely clear what position he’ll be playing in college, but the 6-foot-1, 220-pound Oklahoma prospect has received interest from several other Power Five schools, including Michigan State, Iowa State, Minnesota, Oklahoma State and Arkansas.

Pearson told BuffStampede’s Adam Munsterteiger that Colorado may have plans to use him at either linebacker, safety or tight end.

With a .8793 rating (247Sports composite), the three-star athlete becomes the highest-rated commit in Colorado’s 2023 class, just ahead of California cornerback Jordan Shaw.

Colorado football recruiting: Three-star LB Victory Johnson commits to Buffaloes

Victory is coming to Boulder

The Colorado Buffaloes picked up a Victory on the recruiting front.

Victory Johnson, a three-star linebacker from Cathedral Catholic High School (San Diego, California), chose the Buffaloes over nine other schools on Saturday, including Washington and USC.

Johnson is Colorado’s 18th commitment in the 2023 recruiting class and the second linebacker, joining fellow three-star CJ Turner.

At 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, Johnson provides good size to go along with the speed and versatility to play both outside and middle linebacker. Notably, Johnson excels at stopping the run, a trait that should of course help the Buffaloes and their run defense.

Getting Johnson’s pledge would be a significant development no matter the circumstances, but it’s especially welcoming news given that Colorado still has uncertainty on the coaching staff with interim head coach Mike Sanford running the show in Boulder.

Local standout QB Cole LaCrue has Buffs in top 3, visiting CU over weekend

Local three-star QB Cole LaCrue is taking an official visit to Colorado this weekend

If you follow local high school football, Cole LaCrue is a name you should know. Broomfield’s senior starting quarterback threw for 1,854 yards and 21 touchdowns in the regular season while leading the Eagles to a perfect 10-0.

With that, his recruiting stock has risen dramatically. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound three-star prospect only had a handful of Football Championship Subdivision offers heading into his senior year until Colorado, Wisconsin and Tulane all offered him on Monday. LaCrue then announced on Wednesday that those are his top-three schools.

The Buffs have one key advantage, however: proximity. As Broomfield is enjoying a bye in the state playoffs, LaCrue will be taking an official visit to CU this weekend with Oregon coming to Folsom Field.

Colorado receives commitment from three-star Jordan Shaw

Jordan Shaw is now the highest-rated commit in Colorado’s 2023 class

Not long after taking his official visit over Homecoming weekend, No. 49 2023 California prospect (247Sports composite) Jordan Shaw announced his commitment to the Colorado Buffaloes on Tuesday.

Shaw has racked up impressive numbers playing both receiver and defensive back at St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in Downey and was recruited by Colorado cornerbacks coach Rod Chance — Chance had also recruited Shaw when he was at Oregon.

The 6-foot, 170-pound three-star is now the highest-rated recruit out of Colorado’s 17 class of 2023 commits, just ahead of linebacker CJ Turner (per 247Sports). Shaw is also the fourth defensive back — Taylor Starling, Adrian Wilson and Jamari Holliman being the others — and the fifth commit from the state of California.

The Buffs were able to beat out several other Division I teams that had offered Shaw, including Pac-12 foes Arizona, Arizona State, USC, California, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Washington State. But perhaps most importantly, Shaw is Colorado’s first player to commit in the post-Karl Dorrell era.

Texas wide receiver Wesley Watson decommits from CU Buffs

Citing the program’s state of transition, Wesley Watson has decommitted from Colorado

As we expected would happen, Colorado football has lost a commit due to the chaotic state of the program.

Class of 2023 wide receiver Wesley Watson, who gave his pledge to the Buffs in June, announced on Twitter on Monday that he has decommited.

The College Station, Texas three-star prospect had received offers from Kansas State, Houston and Oklahoma State in October alone. Plus, he visited Kansas State on Saturday and has a trip scheduled to Oklahoma State in a couple of weeks.

Watson wrote in his decommitment announcement that with CU in a “challenging and delicate position of transition,” he decided it was best to pursue other opportunities.

Colorado football recruiting: Three-star CB Jordan Shaw taking official visit during Homecoming weekend

Jordan Shaw is an intriguing official visitor the Buffs are hosting this weekend

In addition to a slew of prospects taking unofficial visits, the Colorado Buffaloes will host two 2023 recruits on official visits during Homecoming weekend: cornerback Jordan Shaw and Arizona commit Rhino Tapaatoutai, an offensive tackle.

Unless the Buffs are able to steal Tapaatoutai from an improving Wildcats program, Shaw’s visit is the most intriguing to me.

Shaw is currently the No. 51 cornerback nationally in his class per 247Sports and has already taken visits to Colorado State and San Jose State. During his junior season at St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in California, the three-star recruit racked up seven interceptions, eight pass deflections and over 1,000 receiving yards in 14 games played.

247Sports analyst Greg Biggins had some encouraging words on Shaw (h/t BuffStampede):

“He’s one of the most under-recruited players in the region and has the talent to play for just about anyone out West,” Biggins wrote on Shaw. “When you look at his on-field production and his explosive play making ability on both sides of the ball, he’s someone we thought would be among the more coveted players in the state.”

Colorado football recruiting: Dorrell’s dismissal hasn’t yet scared commits away

This could change, but the Buffs’ 2023 commits have stayed loyal post-Dorrell

To Karl Dorrell’s credit, he and his staff were beginning to create some recruiting momentum with both Colorado’s current freshman class and its group of 2023 commits.

All 17 of the Buffs’ 2023 commits are three-stars, but the class is still ranked seventh in the Pac-12 per 247Sports. Things will likely change quickly, though, with Dorrell now out of Boulder. A large part of a recruit’s decision to commit is because of the head coach and even though Dorrell was fired for poor performance, there’s a chance that a different coaching staff becomes a dealbreaker for some.

Yet almost one week since his firing, none of the Buffs’ current commits have changed their minds. That’s great news and it suggests that they’re choosing Colorado based on more than just its head coach — an especially wise decision in today’s age of college football. Or maybe they’re just hanging tight until everything plays out.

247Sports recruiting analyst Brandon Huffman was featured in the Wilner Hotline on Friday and he found Colorado’s luck so far “encouraging.”

The big news this week was the firing of Colorado coach Karl Dorrell, and it will be interesting to see how CU’s 2022-23 recruiting class shakes out with the change. The outcome depends partly on which coaches are retained.

The players who have already committed are pretty optimistic. Right now, the Buffaloes have the seventh-ranked class in the Pac-12 with 17 total commitments — all of them three-star prospects.

And crucially, nobody had de-committed yet. If you’re a CU fan, that’s encouraging.

Colorado men’s basketball picks up commitment from 2023 SG Courtney Anderson Jr.

Tad Boyle received a commitment from a 2023 shooting guard

Thankfully, we have some basketball news to report.

On Friday, Tad Boyle’s Colorado men’s hoops team received a commitment from a three-star shooting guard out of Dublin, California, Courtney Anderson Jr.

Anderson, the No. 166 ranked player nationwide in his 2023 class per 247Sports, officially visited CU on Sept. 1 and was offered on Sept. 20. It took only three days for the 6-foot-5, 180-pound prospect to then give his pledge.

BuffStampede’s Adam Munsterteiger caught up with Anderson after his visit and the new Buff shared some encouraging words on the program. The winning culture that Boyle has developed seems to be paying dividends once again in the recruiting game.

“I also had a real good talk with the head coach, Coach Boyle, which gave me a good feel for it. I enjoyed learning about how Colorado basketball is run. They are big on culture, and the basketball program being a family. You have to be able to trust each other and have great character. That is what has helped them have success, and how they want to keep the program going forward.”

Anderson marks the first class of 2023 commit for the Buffs.

Three-star DB Jamari Holliman flips commitment from Toledo to Colorado

Former Toledo commit Jamari Holliman is now a Colorado pledge

Colorado’s secondary is in the process of a reboot after three starters from last season transferred. Karl Dorrell’s 2022 class was a step in a better direction and on Wednesday, 2023 defensive back Jamari Holliman flipped his commitment from Toledo to the Buffs.

Holliman will come to Boulder from Miami, Florida, where he had three interceptions and 18 pass breakups during his junior year at Norland High School.

The 6-foot, 170-pound three-star prospect was recruited by Colorado cornerbacks coach Rod Chance. Holliman, who took an official visit to CU in June, said this to Buffstampede’s Adam Munsterteiger:

“I will bring that Florida boy mentality, that dog that I have in me with how I play,” Holliman said. “My film shows that I could fit in a lot of defensive styles.

“(I feel) excitement, just excitement. I don’t want to say anxiousness. I am anxious to get up there and get started. Of course I have one year of high school left before I do that. When I pressed send (on a commitment to Colorado), I needed to make that is what I really wanted to do… before I sent that tweet out. After sitting down with people that helped me through this recruiting process, I came to that conclusion and sent that tweet out.”

Colorado’s 2023 class now has 17 commits, including three defensive backs.
