2024 5-star EDGE will be in attendance for Las Vegas Bowl

He might be a Florida legacy, but the Gators must work hard to bring 2024 five-star edge rusher Elijah Rushing home to the Swamp.

The Florida Gators are in Las Vegas preparing for its bowl game against Oregon State, but recruiting season never stops in the college football world. Five-star Salpointe Catholic (Tucson, Arizona) edge rusher [autotag]Elijah Rushing[/autotag] is expected to be in town to watch the big game, according to 247Sports.

Rushing is the brother of preferred walk on [autotag]Cruz Rushing[/autotag] and the son of former Gators tight end George Rushing. His ties to the university are well-documented, but Rushing is far from a lock on Florida’s 2024 recruiting board. He’s narrowed things down to a top 12, including Arizona, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA, USC and Washington.

Billy Napier and Co. have prioritized Rushing for most of the year and got him on campus over the weekend of the LSU game (Oct. 15). This weekend will give him a chance to reevaluate Florida after several roster changes cleared up which position groups are in line to see an injection of youth over the next few years. As a top recruit in the class, Rushing is looking for immediate playing time and a path to the NFL.

Rushing is the No. 16 overall on the 247Sports composite and No. 2 among edge rushers in the class of 2024. The site’s individual rankings have him even higher at No. 10 nationally and No. 1 at his position.

2022 Florida Football Season Preview: Safeties

Three returning starters headline the safeties group at Florida in 2022, but there’s a good amount of young talent behind them to be excited about.

Rounding out the defense in Gators Wire’s position-by-position breakdown of the 2022 Florida football roster are the safeties.

Florida’s scheme calls for five defensive backs and utilizes the nickelback position, which they call the STAR. Fortunately, the Gators return starters at all three positions in 2022. [autotag]Trey Dean III[/autotag] and [autotag]Rashad Torrence II[/autotag] are back to man the safety spots, and [autotag]Tre’Vez Johnson[/autotag] is at the STAR.

Behind them are a group of relatively young and inexperienced players, some of which could take a huge step over the season if they see enough snaps. At the top of that list might be [autotag]Kamari Wilson[/autotag], the surprise five-star signing that Billy Napier pulled off during the early signing period last year.

This should be one of the stronger position groups on the team this year given the returning experience in the room. Here is a look at all 13 safeties on the 2022 Florida football fall roster.

The Oregon Ducks made some big ground earlier this year when they announced three-star safety Cruz Rushing was committing to play in Eugene. Rushing will be a solid piece for the Ducks, and it gave Dan Lanning and his staff an in-road to Cruz’s younger brother, Elijah.

Elijah Rushing is a four-star edge rusher from Salpointe Catholic in Arizona. He stands 6 feet, 5 inches and 220 pounds. He is the No. 1 edge rusher in the 2024 class, per 247Sports.

Rushing made a trip to Eugene earlier this year to check out the campus, and it was announced on Wednesday that he will come back with his older brother next weekend for another visit. Here is what he had to say from his first trip to Eugene:

“They seem to have a great vision for the future of Oregon,” Rushing told me after the visit. “They’re talking about how they want to and are going to build a dynasty at Oregon.”

2022 3-star safety Cruz Rushing commits to Oregon Ducks

The Ducks landed a commitment from Cruz Rushing, a 3-star safety from Salpointe Catholic HS in Arizona.

The Oregon Ducks picked up a nice commitment on Tuesday evening, with 2022 3-star safety Crusz Rushing announcing that he would be coming to Eugene to join Dan Lanning and his squad.

Rushing is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound safety from Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Arizona. He is ranked as the No. 48 player in Arizona and the No. 156 safety in the nation.

Rushing now joins a 2022 recruiting class for Oregon that includes Jalil Tucker, Ben Roberts, Devon Jackson, Harrison Taggart, Kawika Rodgers, Michael Wooten, Anthony Jones, Sir Mels, and Justius Lowe.

With National Signing Day about a week away, we will likely see more commits pouring in for the Ducks over the next few days.
