Alabama suffers second SEC loss in ugliest game of the season

Alabama basketball is now 13-2 in SEC play after losing in a very ugly game to Arkansas on the road.

Alabama basketball is now 18-6 overall with an SEC record of 13-2 after losing on the road to Arkansas with a final score of 66-81. A win would have secured Alabama’s regular season SEC title.

The game seemed one-sided the entire time, as the Crimson Tide’s nationally-recognized defense allowed over 10 points more than their average per game.

Suffering from the three-point line hurt Alabama, as they went 11 for 33, but the real difference maker was from the free throw line.

Fans and players were visibly upset with how the game was called. The Crimson Tide only took eight free throws, of which they made three. However, Arkansas took 43 trips to the free throw line. They managed to tally 27 of their total score from the line.

Jahvon Quinerly was given a technical foul late in the second half, but the real story stems from John Petty, who received two technical fouls and was ejected from the game.

Jordan Bruner led the team in scoring with only 14 points.

Arkansas, on the other hand, had a strong offensive showing. Moses Moody was credited with 24 points for the Razorbacks, he shot only 3-12 from the field, but managed to sink 16 free throws.

Alabama will look to bounce back from this loss on Saturday, as they’ll face off against Mississippi State on the road.

The No. 8 Crimson Tide took down the Vanderbilt Commodores with a final score of 78-82, a game many thought would have a larger margin of victory for Alabama.

Sophomore guard Jaden Shackelford led Alabama in scoring with 27 points, while Keon Ellis led the team in rebounds with nine.

Graduate transfer forward Jordan Bruner returned from injury after missing a substantial amount of time, his presence was felt in his first game back.

The Crimson Tide’s defense allowed 78 points, which is high for one of the nation’s top-ranked defenses.

With this win, Alabama’s overall record improves to 18-5, with an SEC record of 13-1.

Three games remain for the Crimson Tide’s regular season, with the next contest coming Wednesday, Feb. 24 against Arkansas on the road.

BREAKING: Alabama extends MBB HC Nate Oats through 2027

Alabama MBB HC Nate Oats has been doing an amazing job at the helm of the Crimson Tide basketball program. He’s now been extended to 2027.

Alabama men’s basketball Nate Oats has immensely shifted the culture within the program, which has earned him a contract extension through the 2027 season.

Currently, the Crimson Tide ranks No. 8 in the country with an overall record of 17-5, and a conference record of 12-1.

The team is heading toward being a top-three seed in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Oats, who is currently in his second season with Alabama, has an overall coaching record of 33-20 as the head coach of the Crimson Tide.

Not only has Alabama been playing some of the greatest basketball in program history, but they are in the national spotlight for something that’s not football.

For all of the aforementioned reasons, Oats and the university have come to an agreement to extend his contract through the 2027 season with an annual base salary of $3.225 million.

“We are excited to agree to a contract extension with The University of Alabama,” Oats said. “Crystal and our daughters love it here, and we are committed to The University of Alabama. We feel like we have a lot of positive momentum going with our team and have the program headed in the right direction. Our administration is making a major statement with this extension as we all work on building a successful program for the long term. I know the winning history we’ve had with Alabama basketball, and I feel like we can add to that and accomplish great things here. We appreciate the opportunity Greg Byrne and our athletics administration, President Stuart Bell, Chancellor St. John and The Board of Trustees have provided us. This is really a reflection of the outstanding job that our players, coaches and basketball staff have done the last two years. Now we need all of our focus to be on finishing this season the right way and giving our team the best chance to succeed down the stretch.”

Alabama basketball head coach Nate Oats joined Scott Van Pelt on ESPN to discuss the state of the program and where the team is heading.

Alabama men’s basketball is one of the hottest teams in the nation with an overall record of 17-5 and a conference record of 12-2.

Credit ought to be given to second-year head coach Nate Oats, who had his first season cut short due to the ongoing pandemic.

Now, the No. 8 Crimson Tide is set to make a run in the NCAA basketball tournament as a highly-seeded team.

To talk about the success of the program, as well as the future of the 2020-2021 season, Oats joined ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt.

He mentions the slow start to the season, as well as the culture shift of Alabama basketball that the players have bought into.

In two parts, here’s what he had to say:

Herbert Jones selected by Eastern Conference team in latest NBA mock draft

Alabama defensive star Herbert Jones is projected to be drafted by an Eastern Conference team in the latest USA TODAY 2021 NBA mock draft.

Alabama men’s basketball is one of the hottest teams in the nation with a 17-5 overall record and 12-1 in conference play.

It’s likely that the Crimson Tide will be the No. 1 seed in the SEC tournament, and a highly-seeded team in the NCAA tournament.

With all of the national attention, some players have received a spotlight, allowing fans from across the country to watch them play, as well as NBA front offices.

In the latest USA TODAY 2021 NBA mock draft, only one Alabama player is drafted: defensive star Herbert Jones.

The mock draft has Jones being drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the No. 38 overall selection. While no reason is listed, it’s clearly due to his defensive strength.

While it’s great to see Jones’ name on the board, there’s a bit of shock about not seeing John Petty in the mock draft.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to publish updates on where Alabama stars fall in NBA mock drafts leading up to draft night on Nov. 18.

WATCH: Darius Miles ends Alabama MBB win over UGA with incredible dunk

Freshman forward Darius Miles has not seen a whole lot of minutes for the Crimson Tide, but today he made those minutes count.

The Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team is now 17-5 overall and 12-1 in SEC play after defeating the Georgia Bulldogs at home with an SEC record 115 points.

Nate Oats currently coaches the best defense in all of college basketball and the fastest-paced offense in the nation. The team is primed to be a highly ranked seed heading into not only the SEC tournament, but the NCAA men’s tournament, as well.

The win was secured with less than a minute to go, but freshman forward Darius Miles wanted to make it clear the Crimson Tide finished on top.

He had an incredible slam dunk over a Georgia defender that will leave many speechless. There’s no possible way to describe the intensity, so here is a video of it.

Since the game was coming to a close and Alabama was going to win, some may claim this was an unsportsmanlike act. However, Oats spoke with Georgia head coach Tom Crean about it after the game.

Alabama continues to roll through their schedule. Next up on their list is Texas A&M on the road on Feb. 17.

NCAA MBB tournament simulation predicts Alabama to win national championship

It’s hard to predict the outcome of the NCAA Men’s basktball tournament, but one Reddit user posted a March Madness simulation.

With 68 teams in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, and plenty of historical runs from overlooked teams, it’s often difficult to predict how the field will look when all is said and done.

The Alabama Crimson Tide is poised to make a run as a high-seeded team in the tournament. Some fear Nate Oats may lead the team to a championship, which would make Alabama champions in both football and basketball in the same year.

Reddit user u/IvoryToasttt4888 created a tournament simulation using ESPN’s projected seeds.

In the simulation, two-seed Alabama defeats UMBC, Colorado, Creighton and Utah State to get to the Final Four. From there, Alabama takes down Baylor, where they then beat Purdue in the championship matchup.
