Social media reacts to Ohio State’s epic win over Texas in Cotton Bowl

Going to the Natty #GoBucks

Well, it wasn’t the smooth ride like the first two games were, but maybe a little more meaningful. After embarrassing Tennessee and Oregon, Ohio State found itself in a dogfight with Texas in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl. A game the Buckeyes would ultimately win with late heroics.

It will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest games ever played in Ohio State football history. One OSU fans will remember for years to come and share with their kids and grandkids — especially if Ohio State goes on to hoist a College Football Playoff national championship trophy.

As you can imagine, emotions were flying high and people had some things to say on social media. Let’s take a look at some of the best reactions.

Check out some of the best photos of Ohio State’s win over Texas in the CFP semifinal Cotton Bowl. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team punched its way to the College Football Playoff National Championship game against Notre Dame on January 20, thanks to a hard-fought win over the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl.

It was a fun night. It was also an exciting night out in Dallas, and it’s always great to reflect on what happened in-between the lines whenever the Buckeyes are in action. On that note, we had plenty of photographers on hand to catch all some of the most memorable moments before, during, and after the contest.

We’ve poured through the best photos that we can find and are sharing them with you to remember a great night. Here are some of the best high-resolution pictures of Ohio State’s win over Texas on Friday night.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, Will Howard, and Jack Sawyer talk CFP semifinal Cotton Bowl win

Ryan Day, Will Howard, and Jack Sawyer were understandably ecstatic after the Cotton Bowl win. #GoBucks

It wasn’t as easy as the two weeks prior in the College Football Playoff, but. Ohio State made enough plays to win a tough battle against the Texas Longhorns in a CFP semifinal Cotton Bowl on Friday night.

It was a nip and tuck affair that went into the fourth quarter until the OSU defense again made a goal-line stand, turned the game around with one play, and then salted things away for a 28-14 victory in Dallas.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, as well as quarterback Will Howard and defensive end, Jack Sawyer, met with the media after the game to field questions and provide reaction to what happened on the field. We have the entire press conference thanks to the WBNS 10TV YouTube channel.

In it, you can hear the trio give credit to Texas, discuss the resiliency of this OSU team, and more.

Ohio State will now prepare to take on Notre Dame in the CFP Championship Game in Atlanta on January 20. We’ll have plenty leading up to the game so come back and soak it all in over the next ten days or so.

WATCH: What Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and Longhorns players said about Ohio State postgame

Sark on his thoughts about Ohio State and the game. #GoBucks

Ohio State won a tough battle with Texas in the Cotton Bowl and came away with a 28-14 victory in the CFP semifinal on Friday night. It was a game that was closer than the final score indicated and one in which the Longhorns played OSU close enough to pull out the victory. In the end though, Ohio State is now headed to the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and some of the players, including Quinn Ewers, met with the media after the game to discuss what he saw from his team, Ohio State, and the game in general and was quick to give credit to the Buckeyes after the loss.

In case you missed any of what Sarkisian or the players said about OSU after the game, you can catch all of those comments thanks to the WBNS 10TV YouTube Channel.

WATCH: Jack Sawyer send Ohio State to the national championship with scoop and score

Buckeye legend forever #GoBucks

Ohio State is off to the College Football Playoff National Championship game to face Notre Dame. But it wasn’t easy. Clinging to a seven-point lead, the defense was asked again to make yet another stop. Texas drove down the field fairly quickly and then two pass interference calls put the Longhorns on the one-yard line with a first and goal.

The defense did what it’s done so many times this year. The Buckeyes would stuff a first-down run and string out another for a loss. Eventually, Quinn Ewers faced a fourth down to tie the game from the eight-yard line. Enter Jack Sawyer who came off the edge to hit Ewers, knocking the ball loose where Sawyer would scoop it up and rumble 83 yards to secure the Buckeye victory.

Watch the play below that will go down in Ohio State lore.

Ohio State thwarts Texas, faces Notre Dame in CFP Championship Game

Ohio State toppled Texas and gains the CFP Championship Game against Notre Dame

Jack Sawyer and Quinn Ewers came to Ohio State together in 2021. They were roommates. The defensive end and quarterback wound up in the same place on Friday, the Cotton Bowl a CFP semifinal. Only Sawyer was still a Buckeye and Ewers played for Texas, Sawyer got the final word as his  82-yard scoop and score sealed a 28-14 victory and a spot in the national championship game against Notre Dame.

“I can’t say enough about Jack Sawyer, He’s a captain,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “To make a play like that in that moment you become a legend. He became a legend,”

Texas had the ball at the one-yard line and was three feet from tying the game late in the fourth quarter. A loss on a running play set up Ewers to make a pass that was incomplete. On fourth down, Ewers’ former roommate hit him and the ball popped right to Sawyer.

He took off and ran 82 yards for the touchdown.

Ohio State will play Notre Dame on Jan. 20 in Atlanta for the national championship.

Ewers had two touchdown passes in the game. Quinshon Jenkins of Ohio State had two running touchdowns.

Quarterback Will Howard made a huge run on a fourth down play to set up the touchdown that gave Ohio State the 21-14 lead, setting the stage for Sawyer’s heroics.

Ewers had two words for his former roommate and a laugh.

WATCH: TreVeyon Henderson takes one to the house vs. Texas in Cotton Bowl

Off to the races! #GoBucks

Ohio State dominated the first half of the Cotton Bowl against Texas but could only muster a 7-0 lead. The Buckeyes kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties, one of the most egregious coming from TreVeyon Henderson who drew a 15-yard unsportsmanlike foul on OSU’s second drive.

The Longhorns finally got decent field position with under two minutes and put a touchdown on the board with just 30 seconds left in the first half. It looked like the game would be even with the Buckeyes getting the ball to start the second half, but momentum would stay with the Burnt Orange for just one play. With an aggressive Texas attack, Chip Kelly called a screen pass to Henderson who patiently waited for a hole to open and raced 75 yards to the endzone putting the Bucks up 14-7.

Watch the beauty of a play below.

Ohio State will receive the ball to open the second half and look to build on the seven-point lead. Time to finish the deal.

Ohio State football vs. Texas Longhorns: Halftime observations

Ohio State football vs. Texas Longhorns: Halftime observations #GoBucks

Ohio State football heads to halftime with a slim 14-7 lead over the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl. The winner of this game earns the right to play in the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

Momentum seemed lost and Texas looked like they had found its groove, but with less than a minute left, TreVeyon Henderson totally redeemed himself from his terrible penalty earlier in the game with a 75-yard touchdown reception. Penalties have been the prevailing theme for both seasons, but nerves and mistakes are somewhat expected in a game of this magnitude.

It truly feels like the Buckeyes are the team of destiny and overall there isn’t much to complain about regarding the first half, but the following are three observations noticed from the first half.

NEXT … The play calling

Nick Saban predicts Ohio State vs. Texas Cotton Bowl winner in College Football Playoff

Ryan Day’s Ohio State Buckeyes or Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Longhorns? Here’s who the GOAT picked.

Former Alabama football coach Nick Saban has been high on the Ohio State Buckeyes since the College Football Playoff began.

Saban, who blasted some Ohio State fans for their fury over the team’s 13-10 loss to hated rival Michigan on Nov. 30, has arguably been the Buckeyes’ biggest supporter from the standpoint of respected media voices during his various appearances on ESPN’s “College GameDay” and other platforms (Pat McAfee’s show).

The college football legend has consistently touted the job of Ohio State coach Ryan Day, as well as the play of Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard, freshman sensation wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, and his former safety Caleb Downs, who spent his freshman season at Alabama before transferring to Columbus.

So it’s no surprise who Saban picked to win Friday’s CFP semifinal at the Cotton Bowl. From his seat on “College GameDay” set, which broadcast live from inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Saban picked the Buckeyes to beat the Texas Longhorns and advance to the national championship game on Jan. 20 in Atlanta.

The winner of tonight’s game will meet Notre Dame, who defeated Penn State 27-24 in the Orange Bowl on Thursday to advance to their first national championship game since the 2012 season.

When picking the Buckeyes, Saban said:

“To me, the most physical team is going to win and whichever quarterback plays the best and takes care of the ball. Ohio State has shown that in these playoffs so far, so I’m going with Ohio State.”

Earlier in the broadcast, Saban offered plenty of praise for Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, who won a national championship as Alabama’s offensive coordinator on Saban’s 2020 staff.

“Sark is a great play-caller and a great planner. He’s a great teacher and he’s got a really good system that’s hard to defend, so Ohio State’s going to have their hands full. I think the key is, can Sark create balance by being able to control the line of scrimmage and run a little bit?”

USA Today experts overwhelmingly choose Ohio State football to beat Texas

The Ohio State Buckeyes are an almost-touchdown favorite against Texas, and USA Today is overwhelmingly picking them to win as well.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are going to face the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl on Friday night with the winner getting a battle with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the rights to reign over college football.

Ohio State will close as almost a touchdown favorite over the Longhorns which isn’t surprising after the Buckeyes throttled the previously-undefeated Oregon Ducks on January 1 in the Rose Bowl.

While Texas is no easy opponent and the Cotton Bowl could truly be the battle of the best two teams in the country, most analysts are doubling down on the Buckeyes coming out on top.

USA Today took a prediction from its top analysts, and each of them predicted the Buckeyes to come out on top. While multiple columnists put down their opinions, each had the same ultimate outcome: a Buckeyes win.

Here’s what one, Paul Myerberg, said.

“Ohio State won’t be stopped. Texas will need to play its best game of the year (or maybe the decade, if not the generation) to upend the mighty Buckeyes. While Quinn Ewers played well late in the Peach Bowl, the Longhorns’ general lack of consistency on offense will eventually help OSU pull away and score another double-digit win. Ohio State 38, Texas 27,” Myerberg wrote.

The Buckeyes have the talent on both sides of the ball, but against an aggressive defense and stout Texas offensive line, it certainly will be no cakewalk for Ohio State.

That said, let’s cross our fingers that the analysts will not fall short with their predictions.
