Former Wisconsin RB, Super Bowl 52 legend visits Philadelphia Eagles training camp practice

Former Wisconsin running back and Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl 52 hero Corey Clement visited the Eagles 2024 training camp practice on Sunday.

The versatile running back is a free agent entering the 2024 NFL season after spending the last few seasons on the Arizona Cardinals practice squad.

Clement played for Wisconsin from 2013-2016. He appeared in 39 games over those four seasons, rushing for 3,092 total yards and 36 touchdowns.

2016 was Clement’s best in his college career. He helped lead the Badgers to an 11-3 record with 1,375 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 314 carries, plus 12 receptions and 132 receiving yards.

The 2016 first-team All-Big Ten running back went unselected during the 2017 NFL draft and signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent.

Clement’s Eagles tenure was by far his best as a professional.

His rookie season in 2017 included a career-high 74 carries, 321 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. He played a critical role in the Eagles’ 41-33 Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, catching four passes for 100 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Clement’s career never took off after that. He played for the Eagles until the end of the 2020 season, primarily seeing time on special teams. He then spent 2021 with the Dallas Cowboys, and 2022 and 2023 with the Arizona Cardinals.

Despite a lack of longevity, Clement’s career will always be remembered in Philadelphia thanks to his Super Bowl performance. His third-quarter touchdown reception remains one of the more impressive, and improbable, plays in Super Bowl history.

Every former Wisconsin Badger who has played in the Super Bowl since 2000

Can you name all of them?

We have reached another year’s edition of the big game. This time, it’s Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs against Christian McCaffery and the San Francisco 49ers.

While former Wisconsin Badgers are not the headliners for this contest, and they rarely are, there is one who will play a prominent role in this edition: Chiefs starting inside linebacker Leo Chenal.

That’s actually been the case for many Super Bowls. The Wisconsin products aren’t on the front page of the preview or winning MVP, but players like James White (14 catches, 110 receiving yards, 3 touchdowns in Super Bowl 51), Corey Clement (four catches, 100 receiving yards in Super Bowl 52) and numerous lineman have all been key pieces in Super Bowl victories.

For those names and a few others who may have been forgotten, here is every former Wisconsin Badger to have played in the Super Bowl since 2000:

Cardinals add WR Andre Baccellia, QB Jeff Driskel, RB Corey Clement to roster

The Cardinals add QB Jeff Driskel, RB Corey Clement and WR Andre Baccellia to the active roster for the game against the Browns.

The Arizona Cardinals announced three roster additions for their game on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Two were elevated from the practice squad and a third was signed to it.

For the second week in a row, the Cardinals signed receiver Andre Baccellia to the active roster, presumably because either Greg Dortch or Michael Wilson, both questionable to play, will be unable to go.

The Cardinals used their two practice squad elevations to add running back Corey Clement and quarterback Jeff Driskel to the roster.

Clement will be the third running back and play mostly special teams while Keaontay Ingram and Tony Jones handle offensive duties.

Driskel will be the backup quarterback to Clayton Tune. Driskel will be active for the first time as a member of the Cardinals.

A signing is different than an elevation because players elevated are reverted to the practice squad on Monday. A player signed remains on the roster unless released and would then have to clear waivers to re-sign with the practice squad.

The Cardinals and Browns kick off Sunday at 11 a.m. Arizona time.

We’re looking at the 18 former Eagles who’ll play against Phladelphia during the 2023 NFL regular season

The Eagles have the NFL’s most challenging schedule, and they’ll have several high-profile matchups against players that had success in the midnight green.

The NFL schedule construction is a unique process that’s become even more complex thanks to increased parity, spread-out star power, and several dominant teams vying for a Super Bowl every year.

After winning the NFC East, Philadelphia will play the first-place teams in the other three NFC divisions and the Chiefs and Bills.

Based on last year’s standings, the Eagles’ 17-game gauntlet features the league’s most formidable strength of schedule (.566 win percentage).

With training camp fast approaching, here are 18 former Eagles who’ll face off against Philadelphia.

Clement is back on a one-year deal. What grade do you give the move?

The Arizona Cardinals re-signed running back and special team contributor Corey Clement to a one-year contract. He played half of last season for the Cardinals.

His one-year deal is for the league minimum and there is no guaranteed money in the contract.

It is a small move as he will play on special teams and potentially have a role on offense.

Contract details for RB Corey Clement

Clement’s one-year deal is for the league minimum and the Cardinals get some cap relief from it.

One of the moves the Arizona Cardinals made so far in free agency this offseason is to bring back running back Corey Clement on a one-year contract.

Over the Cap has the details of the contract.

It is pretty simple, although the Cardinals do get salary cap relief from the contract.

His deal is for the league minimum at $1.08 million. He has no guarantees or signing bonus.

Additionally, it apparently qualifies for the veteran salary benefit. Instead of counting $1.08 million against the salary cap in 2023, it will count $940,000.

They get $140,000 in cap relief.

Clement will have to compete to make the roster but his play on special teams last season and the return of special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Jeff Rodgers helps his case.

Cardinals re-sign RB Corey Clement to one-year contract

Clement played nine games for the Cardinals in 2022, mostly on special teams.

The Arizona Cardinals have re-signed running back Corey Clement. He returns to the team on a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.

Clement joined the team midseason after Jonathan Ward got hurt. In nine games, he played in 102 special teams snaps and got some playing time on offense late in the season.

He finished with 15 rushing attempts for 55 yards and a  touchdown and also caught five passes for 54 yards.

He has been in the NFL since 2017, entering the league as an undrafted rookie out of Wisconsin.

He played for the Philadelphia Eagles for four seasons, although he was not there when Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon and defensive coordinator Nick Rallis were on the staff.

In 2021, he played for the Dallas Cowboys and last year for the Cardinals.

His most productive seasons on offense were his first two years in the league with the Eagles. As a rookie in 2017, he rushed for 321 yards and four touchdowns on 4.3 yards per attempt, and he caught 10 passes for 123 yards and two scores.

In 2018, he rushed for 259 yards and two scores, averaging 3.8 yards. He also had 12 receptions for 192 yards.

He will, at minimum, play a significant role on special teams in 2023 and might figure into their plans on offense.

Series History: Wisconsin Badgers vs. Illinois Fighting Illini

The series history between the Wisconsin Badgers and Illinois Fighting Illini:

On Saturday morning, the Wisconsin Badgers will match up against the Illinois Fighting Illini for the 89th time in their collective histories. The Badgers have won 44 games in the series, losing 37 and tying seven.

The last time these teams faced off was last year in Champaign, Ill., where Wisconsin shut out Illinois 24-0. The Badgers dominated the Fighting Illini on the ground with running backs Chez Mellusi and Braelon Allen rushing for over 130 yards and a touchdown each.

The first time they played was in 1895 at Camp Randall Stadium, which ended in a 10-10 tie. Hopefully, this year’s game should be more exciting to watch as former Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema makes his return to Madison, Wis., with the Fighting Illini.

Below are photos from some of the most recent matchups between Wisconsin and Illinois:
