Washington Capitals at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Washington Capitals at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Washington Capitals (10-4-1) and Colorado Avalanche (9-8-0) meet  Friday in Denver. The opening faceoff at Ball Arena will be at 9 p.m. (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Capitals vs. Avalanche odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Colorado won 2-0 last season

Washington, which has alternated wins and losses over its last 6 games (3-2-1), is opening a 3-game road swing. The Capitals’ last game was Wednesday, a 4-3 overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Washington toted a 3-1 lead into the final 5 minutes of that contest.

Colorado is closing out a 4-game homestand. The Avalanche won the first 3 games of that stretch, including a 4-2 win onWednesday vs. the LA Kings. Over the last 2 seasons, the Avs have won each of 4 meetings with the Caps.

Capitals at Avalanche projected goalies

Charlie Lindgren (3-4-0, 2.76 GAA, .897 SV%) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (4-5-0, 3.56 GAA, .863 SV%)

Lindgren lost his last start Nov. 8 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins and has dropped 3 of his last 4. The 30-year-old veteran has faced Colorado just twice before, logging a shaky .848 SV%.

Georgiev went the route in Wednesday’s game against the Kings, stopping 13 of 15 pucks. The struggling netminder has clocked a 90% mark in just 2 of his 10 games this season.

Capitals at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Capitals 2

Moneyline

Washington has played just 3 road games (1-2-0) since Oct. 22, and the Capitals are facing an Avalanche club that has won 4 in a row on home ice.

In Colorado sweeping 4 games from Washington over the last 2 seasons, the Avs have outscored the Caps 19-7. And the Avs are the value side on this one.

The Capitals’ 5-on-5 analytics don’t fully support the team’s 4.13 goals per game. Washington does generate a lot of quality looks, but an ultra-high shooting percentage on its high-danger chances does not figure as a repeatable, likely-to-continue trend.

The projected-starter Georgiev has certainly had his struggles, but he does own a solid .913 SV% over his last 4 starts.

FanDuel Sportsbook has a better price to leverage on the home favorites here: BACK COLORADO (-156).

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS: Washington does have the offensive numbers to make the puck line an iffier proposition.

Over/Under

Colorado netted 6 goals in each of last year’s meetings, and both games cashed on the Over. But the analytics lean here, with some added benefit of Georgiev being sharper of late, make for leverage on the Under.

Washington’s 5-on-5 expected goals vs. actual just can’t be discounted. Some neutral puck luck figures to send the Caps’ scoring numbers lower in the intermediate future.

FanDuel Sportsbook again has a better tag with which to work. TAKE THE UNDER 6.5 (+100).

LA Kings at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s LA Kings at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The LA Kings (9-5-3) take on the Colorado Avalanche (8-8-0) Wednesday. Puck drop from Ball Arena is set for 10 p.m. ET (TNT). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Kings vs. Avalanche odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Avs won 2-1 last year

The Kings dropped the first game of their road trip 3-1 in Calgary Monday. It was just a situation where Calgary 23-year-old goalie Dustin Wolf was simply unbeatable. C Anze Kopitar — surprise, surprise — leads the team with 18 points on 5 goals and 13 assists.

After a horrid start, the Avs are starting to round into form, winners of 2 straight against forecasted playoff teams. They beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 in OT Monday night. RW Mikko Rantanen netted his 9th goal of the season in the win.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 6 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Kings at Avalanche projected goalies

Darcy Kuemper (4-2-3, 2.65 GAA, .903 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (3-5-0, 3.76 GAA, .863 SV%)

The Kings could go with David Rittich here, but I expect Kuemper to face his former team. Kuemper has been solid in his 4 starts this month at 1-2-1 with a 2.00 GAA and .919 SV%. He was between the pipes in the loss to Calgary Monday, stopping 25 of 27. He didn’t face his former team while with the Washington Capitals last year. He was 0-2-0 with a 3.58 GAA and .873 SV% against them 2 years ago.

Georgiev was solid in his last 3 starts after a disastrous start to the year. He’s 2-1-0 with a 2.33 GAA and .922 SV% in his last 3 against Winnipeg, Carolina and Nashville. He was 2-1-0 with a 2.02 GAA and .940 SV% in 3 starts against the Kings last year.

Kings at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Kings 4, Avalanche 3

Moneyline

We just touched on how much better Georgiev is playing. However, I am throwing that straight out the window because I don’t trust him. It’s telling to me that Colorado is -140 on the ML and +170 on the PL. The books are luring you into a trap. Don’t do it.

The Kings won 2 of the last 3 in this building, and they play a heavy style that will wear you down. Now, they aren’t the same with RD Drew Doughty (ankle) out, but for my money, I’m taking the team that has shown better all season over a talented team with a dumpster fire in goal at times.

Take the KINGS +120.

Puck line/Against the spread

I am taking KEVIN FIALA OVER 2.5 SHOTS (-135) here. Last year against Colorado, he had 4, 3 and 5 SOG. He’ll be ready.

Over/Under

The Under has hit in the last 2 meetings, but the Over cashed in the 5 before that. The Over is 4-2-1 in LA’s last 7. It’s 6-2 in Colorado’s last 8.

Colorado will score, but it’s going to be the Kings wearing them down to get the 4 goals needed to cash the OVER 6 (-120).

Carolina Hurricanes at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Carolina Hurricanes (10-2-0) meet the Colorado Avalanche (6-8-0) Saturday at Ball Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Hurricanes vs. Avalanche odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Tied 1-1 in 2023-24

The Hurricanes steam into the Mile High with 8 consecutive victories, outscoring the opposition 38-17. The winning ways have been mostly behind G Pyotr Kochetkov, as G Frederik Andersen is sidelined yet again due to injury. For Carolina, C Martin Necas has been blistering hot, going for 6 goals and 18 points with a plus-11 rating in the 8-game winning streak.

The Avalanche haven’t been doing nearly as well. They’re coming off a heartbreaking 1-0 loss against the Winnipeg Jets on the road, and Colorado has dropped 4 of the past 5 outings, scoring 2 or fewer goals in each of those losses. Still, the Over is 5-1 in the past 6 games, with Colorado goalies allowed 4 or more goals in 4 of the outings.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Hurricanes at Avalanche projected goalies

Pyotr Kochetkov (7-1-0, 2.51 GAA, .896 SV%) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (1-5-0, 4.05 GAA, .847 SV%)

Kochetkov has won 6 consecutive starts since Oct. 24 in Calgary, with his only loss coming Oct. 19 in St. Louis when he allowed 4 goals on just 19 shots. He was super in Thursday’s 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, allowing just a single goal on 36 shots.

For Georgiev, he was much better last time out. He allowed just a single goal on 28 shots in the 1-0 setback in Winnipeg. Before that, the Bulgarian netminder had allowed at least 3 goals in each of his first 6 appearances.

Hurricanes at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 4, Avalanche 2

Moneyline

The HURRICANES (-130) are an attractive play on the road as moderate favorites. Carolina has been playing at a high level, and until somebody shuts down its offense, you have to keep rolling with the Canes.

The Avalanche (+110) would normally be a slam-dunk play, especially as short ‘dogs at home, but something is just missing this season. Namely, it’s been good goaltending, which has been few and far between.

Puck line/Against the spread

If you’re a little more adventurous, forget about the moneyline and go with HURRICANES -1.5 (+185) for the chance to nearly double up.

During Carolina’s 8-game winning streak it has won by 2 or more goals in 4 straight outings, and 6 of the past 7 contests.

On the flip side, the Avalanche +1.5 (-225) have lost by 2 or more goals in 3 of the past 5 outings.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-105) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at best.

With Georgiev, going Under is a risky play, but he did look pretty sharp in Winnipeg against an equally hot Jets team. Hopefully he can carry over the momentum to this one.

The Under is 2-1 in the past 3 games for Carolina and 7-4-1 in 12 games this season. On the road, the Under is 4-2 on the season, including a 3-1 mark in the previous 4 skates away from home.

Colorado Avalanche at Winnipeg Jets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Colorado Avalanche at Winnipeg Jets odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Colorado Avalanche (6-7-0) take on the Winnipeg Jets (12-1-0) Thursday. Puck drop from Canada Life Centre is set for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Avalanche vs. Jets odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Jets won all 3 regular-season matchups in 2023-24

The Avs stopped a 3-game skid with a 6-3 victory against the Seattle Kraken Tuesday. C Mikko Rantanen scored 2 goals to give him 6 on the season. C Nathan McKinnon dished out 5 assists to give him 19 total. The Avs’ problem is goal suppression. They are last with 4.15 goals allowed per game yet second-best at only 25.2 shots on goal allowed per game.

The Jets have 99 problems, but a goalie isn’t one of them. They’re second in the league with 2.31 goals allowed per game and first in the league with 4.77 goals scored per game. They took down Utah 3-0 Tuesday to grab their fourth straight win. RW Nino Niederreiter scored his 6th and 7th goals in the game as he looks to challenge his career high of 24 goals.

Avalanche at Jets projected goalies

Alexandar Georgiev (1-4-0, 4.62 GAA, .822 SV%) vs. Connor Hellebuyck (9-1-0, 2.10 GAA, .923 SV%, 2 SO)

Georgiev has taken a bit of a backseat after an awful start to the season. His last start came Oct. 28, a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, in which he stopped 21 of 24. He has allowed 3+ goals in all 6 starts. He faced the Jets twice in the regular season last year, stopping 24 of 27 in a 4-2 loss and allowing 4 goals in a 7-0 loss he was pulled 15 minutes into.

Hellebuyck shut out Utah in his last outing Tuesday, stopping all 21 shots. He had a couple of clunkers recently, allowing 4 goals Sunday and 5 goals to the Toronto Maple Leafs last Monday, but those were the only 2 real blemishes thus far. He went 3-0-0 with a 1.33 GAA and .958 SV% against the Avs during the regular season last year.

Avalanche at Jets picks and predictions

Prediction

Jets 5, Avalanche 2

Moneyline

Winnipeg took it to the Avs during the regular season last year with 7-2, 7-0 and 7-6 finals before Colorado flipped the tables on them in the playoffs.

These teams couldn’t be further apart on the spectrum from each other. Georgiev is the worst goalie in hockey in terms of saves above expected with a -10.2. The next closest is at -6.7.

The Jets are the right side here, but I’m on board with the puck line.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Jets are 8-5-0 on the puck line thus far. So they have 12 wins and are hitting the puck line about 75% of the time. They beat Colorado by 2+ twice last year, and their last 5 wins overall were by 2+.

Take the JETS -1.5 (+165).

Over/Under

Winnipeg scored 6+ goals in all 3 regular season matchups last season. Colorado’s offense is starting to get healthy and come together. The Avs are 9-3-1 O/U, and Winnipeg is 8-4-1.

Take the OVER 6.5 (-115).

Tampa Bay Lightning at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Tampa Bay Lightning (6-3-0) take on the Colorado Avalanche (5-5-0) Wednesday. Puck drop from Ball Arena is set for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Lightning vs. Avalanche odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Tied 1-1 last year

The Bolts secured the extra point in overtime in a 3-2 win against the Nashville Predators Monday. That was the first game this season that superstar RW Nikita Kucherov went without a point. C Brayden Point netted his 6th goal and delivered an assist in the game as well. The Lightning are 3-1 in their last 4.

The Avs’ 5-game winning streak ended with a 5-2 shocker against the Chicago Blackhawks Monday. They were on the back end of a back-to-back, and maybe their legs weren’t there after a 5-4 tough win against the Ottawa Senators. C Nathan MacKinnon scored his 5th goal to go with 11 assists on the season.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Lightning at Avalanche projected goalies

Jonas Johansson (1-0-0, 4.08 GAA, .880 SV%) vs. Kaapo Kahkonen (6-20-3, 3.82 GAA, .895 SV% in 31 games w/ San Jose last year)

It’s possible they stick with Andrei Vasilevskiy, but it makes sense to start the backup here 8 days after his first start of the season. Johansson wasn’t sharp in that one, but he didn’t have to be. He allowed 5 goals on 35 shots in an 8-5 victory. That was also a day after he was thrust into relief duty, stopping 14 of 15 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Kahkonen makes his debut with the Avs after they claimed him off waivers Oct. 11. He went 0-2-0 with a 2.57 GAA and .919 SV% during an AHL conditioning assignment. Kahkonen came on in relief against Tampa last season and allowed just 1 goal on 10 shots in just over a period of work.

Lightning at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Lightning 3

Moneyline

The fact that Vassy has not been announced as the starting goalie tells me the Bolts are going to their backup. So this should be a goalfest. That benefits the Avs at home. Kahkonen has a chance to earn a large role with G Alexandar Georgiev struggling, and he could make a good first impression.

Take the AVALANCHE -105 for a good price at home.

Puck line/Against the spread

I’m targeting C Casey Mittelstadt here, who scored his 6th goal of the season in the last game. He has 3+ SOG in the last 2 games, and in a game I expect offense, I will take the plus-money for CASEY MITTELSTADT OVER 2.5 SHOTS (+130).

Over/Under

Colorado is 6-3-1 O/U this season with the fluctuation in net. The Lightning are 4-4-1, but I expect them to go with their backup. The Over went 2-2 in the last 4 regular season matchups.

LEAN OVER 6.5 (-120).

Ottawa Senators at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Ottawa Senators at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Ottawa Senators (4-3-0) travel to meet the Colorado Avalanche (4-4-0) at Ball Arena in Denver on Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Senators vs. Avalanche odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Avalanche won 2-0 in 2023-24

The Senators lost 6-4 on the road against the Vegas Golden Knights Friday as the Over (6.5) cashed. The Over and Under have alternated in each of the past 6 outings since Oct. 12.

The Avalanche dropped the first 4 games this season, cashing the Over in each of the outings, while allowing 5 or more goals in each contest. Colorado has since won 4 in a row, allowing a total of 4 goals in the previous 3 games, while the Under is 3-0-1 in the win streak.

Colorado has won 7 of the past 8 meetings since Feb. 6, 2020, while the Over has cashed in 6 in a row. In the 4-game series win streak for the Avs, Colorado has outscored Ottawa 23-12.

Senators at Avalanche projected goalies

Linus Ullmark (1-2-0, 3.44 GAA, .882 SV%) vs. Justus Annunen (3-1-0, 2.08 GAA, .917 SV%)

Ullmark allowed 5 goals on 27 shots in a 6-4 loss at Vegas on Friday, and he has coughed up 9 goals on 53 shots in the past 2 starts, both losses, after his 31-save debut win Oct. 10 against the Florida Panthers.

Annunen has rattled off 3 consecutive victories, including a 25-save effort in a 5-1 win on the road against the Utah Hockey Club last time out on Thursday. He has allowed just 4 goals on 79 shots in the previous 3 outings.

Senators at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Senators 3

Moneyline

The AVALANCHE (-160) is a little on the pricey side, but Colorado appears to have caught lightning in a bottle with Annunen, and he and the team are playing very well of late.

The Senators (+135) shelled out big money to Ullmark, but the early returns have been a little uneven. He isn’t likely to turn things around against a high-octane Colorado offense.

Puck line/Against the spread

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+145) are worth a roll of the dice if you’re a little less conservative.

Colorado has won 3 of the past 4 meetings by 2 or more goals, and the Avalanche have cashed on the puck line in 6 of the past 8 meetings since Feb. 6, 2020. So, if you like the Avs to win, you should like them to cover, too.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-120) is worth a look, as the total has ended up going high in 6 consecutive meetings in this series.

The Over and Under have alternate in each of the past 6 games for the Senators, so be careful.

In addition, the Under is 3-0-1 in the past 4 games for the Avs, although the total has cashed high at a 3-0-1 clip in 4 home contests at Ball Arena.

The Colorado Avalanche (3-4-0) visit the Utah Hockey Club (4-2-1) Thursday. Puck drop from Delta Center is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Avalanche vs. Utah odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Avalanche at Utah Hockey Club projected goalies

Alexandar Georgiev (1-3-0, 4.99 GAA, .811 SV%) vs. Connor Ingram (4-1-1, 3.82 GAA, .862 SV%)

Georgiev has struggled to start the season, with both his GAA and SV% landing him 55th or worse in the early rankings. After dropping each of his first 4 starts, he snapped his winless streak last Friday. He has allowed 3 or more goals in each start this season.

Ingram’s 4-1-1 record has been his strongest aspect this season while his GAA (50th) and SV% (49th) are both subpar. He has allowed 4 or more goals in 4 of his last 5 starts.

Avalanche at Utah Hockey Club picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Utah 3

Moneyline

BET AVALANCHE (-150).

Colorado had a tough start to the season, but has the momentum headed into Thursday with a 3-game winning streak, including 2 in a row on the road. It has scored 3 or more goals in each of its last 4 games while limiting opponents to 3 goals total in its last 2 games. Utah has dropped 3 of its last 4 games while scoring just 6 total goals in that span and allowing 13.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

There is better value on the moneyline.

Over/Under

BET OVER 6.5 (+100).

Even with a high total than most nights, both these teams are more than capable of scoring. Colorado has a 4-2-1 Over record while Utah has a 4-3 Over record. The projected goalies have also struggled to start the season with each goalie having a 3.82 GAA or worse.

Colorado Avalanche at San Jose Sharks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Colorado Avalanche at San Jose Sharks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Colorado Avalanche (1-4-0) take on the San Jose Sharks (0-3-2) Sunday. Puck drop from the SAP Center at San Jose is set for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Avalanche vs. Sharks odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; The Avs won 3-0 last season

The Avs secured their 1st win of the season with a thrilling 4-3 OT home win against the Anaheim Ducks Friday. The Avs entered as -270 favorites looking like a shoo-in to finally get their 1st win and dominated in the 1st period. They outshot the Ducks 18-8, yet found themselves down 2-0. They battled back with 3 straight goals before ultimately folding with 13 seconds left in regulation. C Nathan MacKinnon ended it with just 41 seconds to go in OT.

The Sharks remained winless after the Winnipeg Jets paid homage to the late Dikembe Mutumbo and finger-wagged “No, no, not today!” The Jets pummeled the visiting Sharks 8-3 Friday, covering as heavy -399 favorites. San Jose RW Tyler Toffoli scored his team-leading 4th goal of the season in the loss.

Avalanche at Sharks projected goalies

Justus Annunen (0-1-0, 4.69 GAA, .765 SV%) vs. Vitek Vanecek (0-2-0, 2.63 GAA, .892 SV%)

G Alexandar Georgiev (1-3-0, 4.99 GAA, . 811 SV%) could get the start here, but he has started all 5 games. Annunen has seen spot duty in 2 games, stopping 11 of 13 shots in 1 game and 2 of 4 in another.

Vanecek started Thursday’s 4-2 loss at the Chicago Blackhawks and stopped 23 of 27 shots. He was pressed into duty Friday after G MacKenzie Blackwood (0-1-2, 4.88 GAA, .875 SV%) allowed 5 goals to Winnipeg in the first 22 minutes. Vanecek stopped 15 of 18 shots in relief. Vanecek was 1-1-0 with a 4.05 GAA and .884 SV% against Colorado last season.

Avalanche at Sharks picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 6, Sharks 3

Moneyline

It’s story time. I watched Friday’s Avs-Ducks game waiting for Anaheim to get a lead to drop Colorado’s ML from an unplayable level at -270. When the Ducks got ahead 1-0, I bet Colorado at -115. The Avs went down 2-0 and made me sweat a little bit, but they eventually prevailed.

That’s the only way you can play this one as well. The Avs (-300) should beat the Sharks, but you can’t risk 3 times your return for it.

Instead, I’m going with CASEY MITTELSTADT OVER 2.5 SHOTS (+120). He has goals in 4 of 5 games and at least 3 shots in 4 of 5, too.

Puck line/Against the spread

I’m not touching an Avs puck line (-1.5, -110) at minus odds right now. The Sharks are without No. 1 pick C Macklin Celebrini (lower body), but they are hungry and on home ice.

PASS.

Over/Under

Both of these teams are battling significant goalie issues. Colorado is 4-0-1 O/U, and San Jose is 2-2-1. The Over is 5-4-1 in the last 10 head-to-head meetings, and we’ve seen 7+ goals in 3 of 4 in San Jose.

TAKE OVER 6.5 (-110).

Anaheim Ducks at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Anaheim Ducks at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Anaheim Ducks (2-1-0) and Colorado Avalanche (0-4-0) meet in a Friday Western Conference tussle in Denver. The Ball Arena puck drop will be at 9 p.m. (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Ducks vs. Avalanche odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Colorado won last season’s series, going 2-0-1

Anaheim earned a 5-4 home win in its last game. In that contest (Wednesday vs. Utah Hockey Club), the Ducks prevailed despite coming up empty on 5 man-advantage opportunities. For the season, the club is 0-for-11 on the power play.

The winless Avs last played Wednesday, dropping a 5-3 game to the Boston Bruins on home ice. Three of the club’s 4 losses — each of the last 3 — have been at home. Colorado has a sub-.800 save percentage and has coughed up 25 goals through 4 games.

Ducks at Avalanche projected goalies

Lukas Dostal (2-0-0, 1.99 GAA, .933 SV%) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (0-3-0, 5.79 GAA, .800 SV%)

Dostal’s last game was Wednesday vs. Utah; he stopped 26 of 30 pucks in a win. The Avs victimized him for 8 goals on 38 shots in an 8-2 finish last season.

Georgiev is expected to be back at it after starting Wednesday and allowing 4 goals on 24 shots. The veteran has certainly scuffled so far but should be happy to see the Ducks, who he filed a .920 SV% in 2 outings against last season.

Ducks at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Ducks 2

Moneyline

PASS: no interest here.

Puck line/Against the spread

Across 3 series meetings last season, Colorado won twice, outscoring Anaheim 14-8. The last 10 Ducks-Avs meetings have netted 8 Colorado wins, and 6 of those have been by multi-goal margins.

The Avs have actually been solid in even-strength play, They’ve been undone by 5 power-play goals and 1 short-handed score. Puck-possession analytics have been solid.

The Ducks have been much traveled early.

FanDuel Sportsbook has a better price on the home side here. BACK COLORADO -1.5 (+100).

Over/Under

The Under has prevailed by multi-goal margins in 2 of the Ducks 1st 3 games.

With Anaheim struggling to create 5-on-5, high-danger looks and power-play goals, look for a due-for-better-days Colorado club to prevail around a 4-2 tally.

TAKE THE UNDER 6.5 (+105).

Boston Bruins at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Boston Bruins at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Boston Bruins (2-2-0) take on the winless Colorado Avalanche (0-3-0) Wednesday. Puck drop from Ball Arena is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Bruins vs. Avalanche odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Tied 1-1 last season

The B’s enter Denver 2-0 against everyone not named the Florida Panthers. They’re already 0-2 against Florida after a 4-3 home loss as -122 favorites against the defending champs Monday. RW David Pastrnak ended his 3-game goal streak with no points and just 2 shots on goal. Florida was 1-for-5 on the power play, and Boston was 0-for-4, which was the difference.

The Avs are tied for 3rd on the PP at 33.3%, but their problem is they are last with 6.67 goals allowed per game and 31st with a 57.1% penalty kill. They have allowed 6+ goals in all 3 games thus far, and 2 of those were against Columbus and the New York Islanders. C Nathan MacKinnon is doing his part with 1 goal and 4 assists thus far.

Bruins at Avalanche projected goalies

Jeremy Swayman (2-1-0, 2.98 GAA, .893 SV%) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (0-2-0, 6.58 GAA, .787 SV%)

Swayman dropped a 4-3 game Monday to the Panthers. He stopped 22 of 26 fired his way. That is now, quietly, 2 of 3 games he has allowed 4 goals. That’s something to keep an eye on as we progress because the team shipped G Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators in the offseason. Swayman faced the Avs twice last season, and despite dropping one via a shootout, he was great in both. He stopped 63 of 68 for a 2.40 GAA and .926 SV%

Georgiev has gotten off to a rough start, allowing 5 goals in the Oct. 9 season opener, 3 before being pulled against Columbus Saturday and 5 more against the Isles Monday. This is a situation the team may have to shore up before the trade deadline. Georgiev faced Boston twice last season and was so-so. He allowed 7 goals on 56 shots for a 3.40 GAA.

Bruins at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 4, Avalanche 3

Moneyline

The odds were tilting the Avs’ way Wednesday morning. They could acquire their first point of the season, but I’m taking the BRUINS (+115) in this one. Avs D Devon Toews is questionable with a lower body injury that made him a late scratch Monday. Boston is a physical team, and while playing in the altitude benefits Colorado, Boston has been good in this building in recent meetings. In the last 3 visits, the B’s lost 4-3 in a shootout (Jan. 8), won 4-0 (Dec. 7, 2022) and lost 4-3 in OT (Jan 26, 2022).

TAKE BRUINS (+115).

Puck line/Against the spread

I don’t like either side of the puck line here, but something that absolutely stands out is ALEXANDAR GEORGIEV OVER 2.5 GOALS ALLOWED (-130). We broke down how porous he has been in goal thus far, and this feels close to a lock.

Over/Under

Both games last season had 7 goals. I really look for the Avalanche to come out and play with desperation trying to avoid falling to 0-4-0. I think they will, but that’s because they’re going to be 0-3-1. The Over is 3-1-2 in the last 6 matchups.

BET OVER 6.5 (-115).
