Cavaliers at Celtics: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Celtics 106, Cavaliers 97

Money line (ML)

The Celtics (-275) are a little on the pricey side given that they enter on a three-game losing skid, while the Cavaliers (+220) are now over .500 thanks to a three-game win and cover streak. Boston will still cost you nearly three times your potential return, and that’s just too much for little coming back the other way. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The CELTICS -7.5 (-115) are a bit of a risky play since they are 0-3 SU/ATS across the past three outings, while the Cavaliers +7.5 (-105) are the complete opposite at 3-0 SU/ATS during the same span. But, the C’s were 2-1-1 ATS in four meetings last season and they’ll get it done by this smallish number.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 215.5 (-110) is the way to go, as the Celtics have had trouble scoring the basketball lately. Defensively they rank No. 15 in the NBA with 110.9 PPG allowed, while the Cavaliers check in No. 4 in the Association with just 106.6 PPG allowed. This will be a lower-scoring game worthy of a one-unit wager.

Nets at Cavaliers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nets 123, Cavaliers 115

Money line (ML)

The Nets (-450) are favored to bounce back in a big way after losing an epic 147-135 double-overtime game against the Cavaliers (+350) Wednesday. But can you feel confident risking four-and-a-half times your potential return? Definitely not. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The CAVALIERS +9.5 (-110) won a classic against the Nets -9.5 (-110) to get back to .500 Wednesday night. They cannot be trusted to win outright for a third consecutive outing, but they should be able to keep this one within single digits after covering each of their past two. And Brooklyn’s defense, or lack thereof, will keep the Cavs in the game even.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 227.5 (-110) cashed easily in Wednesday’s battle with a total of 282 points. We’ll obviously see much fewer points here, but will we see 56 less? Doubtful. While Cleveland allows just 106.1 PPG to rank fourth in the NBA, Brooklyn is second in offense with 120.3 PPG, and they don’t play a great brand of defense, yielding 115.8 PPG to rank 25th in the league. Look for another Over, which is 10-0 run for the Nets.

Grizzlies at Cavaliers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Cavaliers 98, Grizzlies 91

Money line (ML)

The CAVALIERS (-125) are worth a look on the money line, as they return home after a grueling six-game road trip, which started on New Year’s Eve in Indianapolis. The Cavaliers went just 2-4 SU during the road trip, but one of the victories was a 94-90 win in Memphis on Jan. 7. The Cavs are a little banged up, but their point guard Sexton should be back in the mix for this one, and that’s great news.

Against the spread (ATS)

The CAVALIERS -1.5 (-115) are slightly cheaper if you lay the small spread and think they can win by a bucket. The difference between the money line and spread is rather negligible, and in this particular instance it’s best to just go ML. The Cavaliers are just 2-5 ATS across their past seven games overall after a hot 3-0 SU/ATS start. The good news is that they beat Memphis already in the past week, and the Grizzlies are rather banged up, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

Hit the UNDER 217.5 (-110), and hit it hard. The Cavaliers enter on an 8-0 Under run, and they have failed to score in triple digits in each of their past seven games. In fact, they’re averaging just 91.7 PPG during the past seven, which is unheard of in this day and age of video game-like offense and cursory defense. Cleveland is very deliberate at the offense end, and they have defensive stalwart and glass cleaner Andre Drummond clogging things up and giving opposing offenses fits. These teams combined for just 184 total points against a 208.5 number on Thursday. Why the books are expecting 33 more points in the second installment is a mystery. Take advantage.

The Cleveland Cavaliers (5-4) and the Milwaukee Bucks (5-4) will meet Saturday for an 8 p.m. ET tip at the FiServ Forum in Milwaukee. Below, we analyze the Cavaliers-Bucks NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Cavaliers at Bucks: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bucks 125, Cavaliers 103

Money line (ML)

The Bucks (-750) entered at -1500, which was cut in half, but you just cannot risk that kind of bread for such a small return. While the Cavaliers (+525) are banged up, it’s just too risky. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The BUCKS -12.5 (-105) have covered each of their past five home games against the Cavaliers +12.5 (-115), and five of the past seven meetings overall against Cleveland. Milwaukee will likely be in an extra angry mood after getting dumped by Utah at home by a 131-118 count last time out, too. Look for the Bucks to roll.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 222.5 (-110) is always the play when the Bucks are involved. The Over has cashed in three straight, and seven of nine games overall for Milwaukee. They’re No. 1 across the board in points scored (124.4 PPG), field-goal percentage (49.8) and 3-pointer percentage (42.2), while ranking in the bottom third in scoring defense (21st – 113.8 PPG).

Cleveland has hit the Under in seven in a row, posting 99 or fewer points in each of the past six. They are scoring just 102.1 PPG to rank 29th, and they’re allowing just 103.3 PPG to rank second defensively. But the Bucks will be able to crack the code and will score plenty on their home floor. Lean to the Over.

Cavaliers at Grizzlies: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Grizzlies 105, Cavaliers 100

Money line (ML)

The Grizzlies (-175) “should” be able to win this game, especially with the Cavaliers (+145) facing the quick turnaround after playing in Orlando last night. Cleveland opened 3-0 SU, but they’re earning their former moniker, the Cadavers, going 1-4 SU in the previous five. However, it’s hard to justify risking $1.75 for every $1 won on a Grizzlies side that has won just twice in seven total games.

PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

The GRIZZLIES -3.5 (-115) are worth playing lightly, as the Cavaliers +3.5 (-105) limp in with just one win across the past five outings while also going 1-4 ATS during the span. Memphis enters with just one win in the past four, but they covered last time out against the defending-champion Lakers, 94-92, while going 3-2 ATS across the past five. They’re on their home floor, and they will keep the visitors reeling on the road.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 211.5 (-110) is the best play on the board in this game, as the Cavaliers streak in with six consecutive Under results, including four straight on the road. The Under has also cashed in five straight as an underdog. If you think that’s impressive, the Under has connected in 18 of the previous 21 at home for the Grizzlies, while going 21-7 in their past 28 overall dating back to last season.

Cavaliers at Magic: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Magic 105, Cavaliers 92

Money line (ML)

The Magic (-250) will cost you nearly two and a half times your potential return, and that’s not the way to go. Yes, Orlando won the front end of the doubleheader by a 103-83 count on Monday. But teams have been having a hard time duplicating the same results in the second go-around. AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread (ATS)

The MAGIC -6.5 (+100) routed the Cavaliers +6.5 (-120) in the first game of the double-dip. However, Orlando has some backcourt injury issues with MCW, hurting his foot in the first half on Monday’s game, and Fournier a big question mark to return after missing the past two due to back spasms.

If Fournier is unable to gut it out, Terrence Ross is forced into the starting five and confidence is not as high that Orlando will be able to pick up another cover. Watch closely, and if Fournier is sidelined, scale back your wager.

Over/Under (O/U)

The play is UNDER 213.5 (-105), which has cashed in each of the past three for Orlando, including Monday’s game with 186 points against a total of 214. The Under has also connected in three consecutive games for the Magic. The Under is also 8-1 in the past nine in this series, including each of the past five meetings in O-Town.

Cavaliers at Magic: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Magic 107, Cavaliers 99

Money line (ML)

The MAGIC (-200) are actually right at my personal limit for money line bets. With Fournier knicked up a bit, and the Magic coming in on a two-game losing skid at home, I am more comfortable playing Orlando on the money line rather than laying the points here.

The Cavaliers picked up a 96-91 win at the Atlanta Hawks Saturday, but they’re just 1-2 straight up and ATS across their past three after starting out 3-0 SU/ATS. Injuries make Cleveland a very tough team to back right now.

Against the spread (ATS)

The MAGIC -5.5 (+100) are the lean here, although I prefer them on the money line. Orlando has struggled to put points on the board in its past two games, averaging 95.5 points per game in a pair of home losses, which is well below its overall season average of 112.0 PPG.

The Magic are 7-3 ATS in the past 10 meetings against the Cavaliers, but the Cavs are 10-4 ATS in their past 14 trips to O-Town.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 217.5 (-110) is the best course of action here, as the Magic have been under the century mark in each of their past two games, while the Cavs have scored 99 or fewer points in three straight games. They are missing the veteran presence of Love in the middle.

The Under has cashed in seven of the past eight meetings in this series, and four straight in Orlando, too.

Cavaliers at Hawks: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawks 121, Cavaliers 117

Money line (ML)

The Hawks (-275) should be able to push past the Cavaliers, who are cooling off after a hot 3-0 start. However, risking nearly three times your potential return on a team which struggles so much defensively is not advised. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The CAVALIERS +6.5 (-110) are the play. You’ll be going with the series trends here as the Cavs are 4-0 ATS in the past four head-to-head meetings. They’re also 7-3 ATS in their past 10 trips to the ATL.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 233.5 (-110) is the play, but very, very lightly. The series trends point to an Over, going 23-8 in the previous 31 meetings, although a lot of personnel has changed during that span. The Over is 4-1 in the past five in Atlanta. What drives this wager, though, is Atlanta’s high-scoring ways, and lack of defense.

Cavaliers at Pacers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Pacers 117, Cavaliers 105

Money line (ML)

Pacers (-300) are a good bet to win at home, but laying three times your potential return is not a good long-term betting strategy unless you toss it into a multi-team parlay. Betting -300 in a standalone bet might have you drinking that cheap dollar store wine in a box to ring in the new year instead of the good stuff if you do it enough. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

PACERS -7.5 (-105) seems like a tall order, but consider the series history. Even when LeBron was on the Cavaliers (-115), they’re more like their old moniker in Cleveland, ‘the Cadavers’, when it comes to facing Indiana. The Cavs are just 9-22-2 ATS in the past 33 meetings with the Pacers, and 2-6 ATS in their past eight sojourns to Indianapolis.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 216.5 (-110) is the way to go in this game, although you’ll be going against the series trends that point to the Under in overwhelming fashion. In the past 17 meetings the Under is 11-5-1, including 8-1 in the past nine battles in Indy.

However, Indiana has hit the Over in each of their past seven homes games against a team with a winning road mark, and the Over is 17-7 in their past 24 following a straight-up loss. Cleveland has also hit the Over in 15 of the past 21 road games against a team with a winning home record, and they’re 13-4 in the past 17 following a non-cover.

Knicks at Cavaliers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Knicks 121, Cavaliers 116

Money line (ML)

The KNICKS (+135) are coming off a stunning 130-110 beatdown of the Milwaukee Bucks Sunday and will face a team much closer to their usual tier Tuesday. The Cavs have started a perfect 3-0 but a 118-94 win over the Philadelphia 76ers was their only win over a 2019-20 playoff team.

The potential absence of Burks looms large for New York, as his 20.7 points per game rank second on the team, but PF Julius Randle (23.7 PPG) and PG RJ Barrett (17.7 PPG) are capable of shouldering the load.

Cleveland has been overperforming expectations while ranking third in effective field-goal percentage (57.8) and fifth in true shooting percentage (60.0). Regression in those areas opens the door for some profitable fades when backing an opposing underdog.

Against the spread (ATS)

Back the KNICKS +3.5 (-110) for 3 points of insurance in the event of a loss.

The Cavaliers’ first two wins of the season – against the Charlotte Hornets (121-114) and Detroit Pistons (128-119) – were both played within a 10-point margin before they blew out the Sixers by 24 points.

New York won the 2019-20 head-to-head series 3-1 with both teams finishing in the Eastern Conference basement.

Over/Under (O/U)

Back the OVER 216.5 (-110) on what’s oddly the lowest projected total of Tuesday’s NBA slate.

While we’re expecting the Cavaliers’ shooting prowess to drop off sooner than later, they’re still averaging 122.3 PPG through three games and have a fair bit of room for error against a Knicks defense allowing 113.3 PPG. The Over partially hedges against our above two picks of the Knicks.
