5 in-state prospects to watch in the class of 2023

5 in-state prospects that Alabama fans should be watching out for in the class of 2023!

The early signing period for the class of 2022 brought plenty of excitement to the Crimson Tide. Nick Saban and the Tide brought in one of the most impressive classes in the country that currently ranks second just behind Texas A&M.

Even with all the excitement that surrounds the class of 2022, it is never too early to look at some of the top prospects that Alabama will be chasing after for the next year or so.

Today we are going to look at five players from the state of Alabama that all Crimson Tide fans should familiarize themselves with.

Who are the top football recruits in Pennsylvania in Class of 2023?

Running down the top football recruits in Pennsylvania in the Class of 2023

Penn State head coach James Franklin made a bold statement when he was first named head coach of the Nittany Lions. Franklin proclaimed Penn State was going to “dominate the state” in recruiting. Backing up that philosophy in his first full recruiting cycle as head coach of the Nittany Lions, Penn State signed six of the top 10 players in the state of Pennsylvania, including Saquon Barkley and John Reid. The following year saw Penn State sign the state’s top two players, Miles Sanders and Michael Menet, as well as another top 10 recruit in Connor McGovern.

While Franklin has done well to extend Penn Stae’s recruiting efforts beyond the state of Pennsylvania, there is always some pride in knowing that some of the best homegrown talent chooses to ultimately play at Penn State. Penn State continued to make that the case in the Class of 2022 with the additions of six of the top 10 players in the state, headlined by Gatorade National Football Player of the Year Nicholas Singleton.

The book is not quite officially closed on the Class of 2022 with the traditional signing period still ahead in February, but efforts for the Class of 2023 are already underway, so you may want to get an idea of who some of the top players in the state of Pennsylvania are in the Class of 2023. Using the 247Sports composite rankings as our guide, here are the top 18 Class of 2023 recruits from the state of Pennsylvania (247Sports only ranks the top 18 players in Pennsylvania at the time this was published)

Penn State edges Clemson and UNC for Class of 2023 OL Joshua Miller

Penn State tops Clemson and UNC for its latest Class of 2023 offensive line recruit

Penn State is continuing to build its offensive line for the future, landing Class of 2023 three-star lineman Joshua Miller from Colonial Heights, Virginia.

Miller had Penn State in his top five and ended up choosing the Nittany Lions over offers from Clemson and North Carolina. Miller made unofficial visits to both ACC schools since the start of October, as well as Penn State. Penn State had long been in the mix for Miller, with the Nittany Lions extending a scholarship offer in June 2020. Miller also attended a football camp at Penn State in the summer of 2021 and later made another unofficial visit a month later.

He stands 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds and had an impressive high school football career. Miller joins the early list of 2023 Penn State commits, including five-star offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier. After not quite padding the depth too much on the offensive line in the highly-ranked Class of 2022, Penn State is certainly off on the right foot with the offensive line in the Class of 2023.

As a pass blocker, Miller does a nice job of staying on his feet and has solid vision. Run blocking is where Miller has flourished, something Penn State has struggled with all season.

Miller can be a mauler at times. He is a player that not only blocks until the whistle but he has been seen pancaking his opponents left and right.

As mentioned, Miller has solid vision as an offensive lineman. There have been plenty of times where he shows it by peeling off his opponent onto the next guy in front of him.

Miller received a Crystal Ball prediction to Penn State last month, as it seemed very telling he was going to make his way to Happy Valley.

Miller’s run blocking will be crucial for the Nittany Lions, who not only struggle in that area but are also trying to find their identity in their running back room. Birchmeier and Miller will be big additions to the offensive line room, as Penn State continues to add pieces to help run their offense, after a struggling season on their front five.

Wisconsin offers 2023 WR Justin Marshall

Wisconsin offers 2023 WR Justin Marshall

Paul Chryst and the Wisconsin football program are hot on the recruiting trail in advance of its bowl game later this month.

The program did not receive great news late last week with top 2022 target Billy Schrauth committing to Notre Dame and transfer cornerback Kalon Gervin switching his commitment from Wisconsin to Kansas.

While that was happening, Chryst and company were hard at work in the 2023 class, offering three-star wide receiver Justin Marshall.

Marshall is 247Sports’ No. 91 wide receiver in the class of 2023 and No. 8 player from his home state of Indiana.

Wisconsin is now the third offer for the wide receiver, joining Ball State and Central Michigan.

Penn State football recruiting: Players to watch in Class of 2023

Penn State football recruiting efforts focusing on the Class of 2023

We are nearing the home stretch of the college football season and Penn State has still kept busy with their recruiting process.

The Nittany Lions currently have their eyes on a few players for their class of 2023. Let’s take a look at the top two players.

The first one is a four-star cornerback out of Dallas, Texas in Malik Muhammad. He recently dropped his top 12 schools and Penn State made the list. Muhammad would be a big addition to a team that will potentially be losing a good amount of secondary players after this season to the draft.

Penn State will compete with other big schools for Muhammad, including Alabama and Georgia. If they are able to land him, that would be a massinve recruit for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State will currently have five defensive backs from the 2022 class, led by safety Cristian Driver, son of former Green Bay Packers legendary wide receiver Donald Driver.

They also currently have one defensive back in the 2023 class in three-star cornerback from Bridgeville, Pennsylvania in Lamont Payne.

The next player to keep an eye on is three-star edge rusher out off edge rusher out of Oradell, New Jersey in De’Juan (DJ) Samuels.

Penn State has a history of producing edge rushers for the NFL, and Samuels would be a nice addition to a team that develops edge rushers very well.

Samuels has been tearing it up in high school. He recently broke his high school sack record as a junior.

Samuels has interest from several teams across the country, including Penn State as well as Rutgers, which he discusses over at Rutgers Wire.

The Nittany Lions have a bright future ahead of them. If they are able to land one or even both Muhammad and Samuels, that would be a huge boost to their defensive recruiting process.

Penn State football recruiting: Players to keep on the radar

Penn State recruiting: Penn State enters a key stretch on the recruiting calendar with some potential distractions looming

Penn State heads back on the road this week to take on Marylan as they look to snap a three-game losing streak. Off the field, however, Penn State remains active on the recruiting trail in hopes of putting together a roster that will fill some holes that have been magnified in recent weeks. Adding to the ongoing recruiting fun is the constant speculation about whether or not James Franklin will be around to see things through to the next level in recruiting.

This all makes for a very important stretch of time leading up to the early signing period in December.

Here are a few players for the Nittany Lions to keep on the radar.

The first one is a four-star offensive lineman in Aamil Wagner. He recently set his commitment date for November 11, and is currently crystal balled to Penn State.

Penn State’s offensive line has been on and off this year and they have seen their better seasons. Adding to the line is essential for Penn State to allow their skill position players to fulfill their potential.

Penn State has started to build their line for their future, including 2022 offensive tackle Drew Shelton and 2023 interior offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier.

The next recruit to keep and eye on is a five-star athlete from the 2023 class in Joenel Aguero. He recently announced his top 10 schools, and Penn State made the list.

There are no crystal ball predictions for the speedy athlete, but he did send out a tweet last week saying he was ready to make his decision. Aguero will be a very intriguing player to watch in the coming weeks.

Our last player is a 2023 four-star cornerback from Alabama in Jahlil Hurley. Hurley recently announced his top 10 schools and Penn State cracked the list.

The Nittany Lions are going to be losing a lot of secondary talent in the coming years. Not only have they started to bolster their offensive line recruiting, but they have also done a nice job at luring in strong, versatile prospects in their secondary as well.

Despite the up-and-down season, the Nittany Lions have still had a productive year of recruiting. These players will be crucial to watch in the coming weeks as they narrow down their schools.

Penn State football recruiting: Nittany Lions lose one and gain one

Penn State recruiting gained one and lost one in the last week

It’s a new week of Penn State football and they will be facing their toughest opponent yet in Ohio State.

They have also had a busy week of recruiting, including one commitment and one that unfortunately re-opened his recruiting process back up.

Our first recruit won’t be the first one that Penn State has brought in through family ties.

He is a three-star tight end in Joey Schlaffer and he joins the class of 2023 for the Nittany Lions. Schlaffer had several offers across the Big Ten before committing to play for James Franklin and Penn State.

We have seen a flurry of tight ends go through Happy Valley and be very productive. Some have even gone on to have successful careers in the NFL like Mike Gesicki and Pat Freiermuth, who is just getting his professional career started.

As mentioned, Schlaffer has family ties to Happy Valley. He is the younger brother Mical Menet, who was a four-year offensive lineman at Penn State. He went on to get drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, but was unfortunately was cut from the regular season roster.

Seeing the success of Penn State tight ends, this is a very promising add for the Nittany Lions.

Even though Penn State gained another recruit, they also lost one in the process from the 2022 class.

Defensive back Jordan Allen recently de-committed from Penn State and the Louisiana native visited Ole Miss over the weekend as they took on LSU.

Ole Miss had a busy weekend of recruits, headlined by quarterback Arch Manning.

Penn State is potentially going to be losing a lot of their secondary and Allen will be a crucial piece of their defense.

Penn State still has a strong recruiting class coming in. Even though Allen could be a big loss to the Nittany Lions, they still brought in a talented three-star tight end in Schlaffer.

Penn State’s Class of 2023 would love to add these two recruits

Who are two Class of 2023 recruits Penn State would love to add?

We are just a few weeks into the season and Penn State has climbed up the rankings in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 leading into Saturday’s game against the Indiana Hoosiers.

We are still continuing to see them build for their future as well. Let’s take a look at a few players to keep an eye on for Penn State recruits.

The first one is a four-star offensive tackle from the 2023 class in Payton Kirkland.

He has narrowed down his list of schools, which includes Penn State. Adding him would be a nice boost to the Nittany Lions 2023 recruiting class, especially since they have already started to add offensive lineman for that class.

Kirkland has 54 total offers across the NCAA. He is a mountain of a man, standing at 6-foot-7 and 320 pounds. He is a player that has the potential to make a lot of noise at the college level.

The next player to watch is another 2023 recruit in Sonny Styles. He is a five-star athlete who ranks number three in his class.

Throughout his high school career, Styles has created chaos on the defensive side of the ball. He plays with tons of aggression and grit, which fits really well with what Penn State has historically recruited. Meaning, they are players who can back up their talk with their performance on the field.

Penn State has a strong recruiting class in 2023 thus far. Kirkland and Styles are two intriguing players to keep an eye on, as both have become popular names for the Nittany Lions recruiting watch list.

Wisconsin football offers three four-star recruits in the class of 2023

Wisconsin football offers three four-star recruits in the class of 2023

The most recent recruiting news for Wisconsin athletics came yesterday on the hardwood, as Greg Gard and the men’s basketball program landed a commitment from class of 2022 three-star shooting guard Connor Essegian.

For Paul Chryst and the football program, not much has happened on the recruiting front since the 2021 season began. The program’s class of 2022 currently sits ranked No. 46 in the country and No. 10 in the Big Ten, though there are still several big-time in-state recruits that are yet to announce their commitments.
