Notre Dame 2025 football commit has a big Wednesday full of awards

What a day for the future Irish star

It was quite the Wednesday for Notre Dame football 2025 commit [autotag]Christopher Burgess Jr.[/autotag]

Early in the day the 6-foot, 4-inch and 240-pound edge rusher found out that he was named as a first-team All-State player by the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association. According to MaxPreps, Burgess had 96 tackles, 5 sacks, 8 tackles for loss, 8 hurries and a forced fumble on the year.

It was quite the senior season for the future Irish pass rusher, but that wasn’t the only recognition that he’d receive on the day. The Navy All-American Bowl also honored him by presenting him his jersey for the all-star game.

Burgess is one of the top recruits in Notre Dame’s 2025 class, as he’s ranked as the nation’s No. 118 overall prospect by the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Unfortunately for him, his high school career is over, after him Simeon team lost in the first round of the state playoffs. Burgess will have one more opportunity to play in the All-American Bowl before he heads off to start his career in South Bend.

Notre Dame doesn't move up in the AP Poll, nor does it move down.

Notre Dame commit Christopher Burgess accepts invite to All-Star game

Burgess Jr. will head to a familiar place for Irish players

There are numerous high school All-Star games that a prospect can attend and Notre Dame football defensive commit [autotag]Christopher Burgess Jr.[/autotag] has accepted an invitation to the Polynesian Bowl.

The Irish have had multiple alumni of this game suit up for the over the years, which include Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, Chris Tyree, Braden Lenzy and Logan Saldate.

At this point in Burgess Jr.’s career, it’s hard to say where he will land, as linebacker and defensive line are in the cards. It all depends on how his 6-foot, 4-inch and 240-pound evolves before he lands in South Bend. Regardless of where he will play, as the nations No. 116 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

There will surely be more Notre Dame commits to join Burgess Jr. in Hawaii.

2025 4-star EDGE Christopher Burgess Jr. lists Alabama in top 4, sets commitment date

2025 four-star edge rusher Christopher Burgess Jr. lists Alabama in his top schools list. Burgess Jr. will announce his commitment on January 6 at the Army All-American Bowl.

Alabama is one of four schools with a shot to land 2025 edge rusher Christopher Burgess Jr. On Wednesday, the Illinois native released his top schools list and set a commitment date. Burgess Jr. will be announcing his commitment at the Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.

Burgess Jr. has not made a trip to Tuscaloosa yet. However, he did list the Crimson Tide as a finalist, so there has likely been contact between he and Alabama’s coaching staff.

Burgess Jr. is one of the most highly-coveted edge rushers in the 2025 recruiting class. He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds. That is the prototypical size for a college-ready edge rusher. While Alabama may not land a commitment from Burgess Jr.., they will likely continue to pursue him until he signs with the college of his choosing.

Notre Dame ‘definitely’ a contender for 4-star Simeon EDGE Chris Burgess

Burgess’ recruitment seems to be pretty wide open.

With IMG Academy’s disruptive five-star DT David Stone off the board and committed to Oklahoma, college programs will be shifting their attention to other highly-ranked defensive linemen in the recruiting class of 2024.

One such prospect to keep an eye on is Simeon (Ill.) four-star edge Chris Burgess Jr., who has offers from 31 different schools. According to Adam Gorney at Rivals, Notre Dame is “definitely” a major contender.

“All of Burgess’ games are on Saturdays this year which makes putting together a visit schedule problematic but the 2025 four-star defensive end from Chicago (Ill.) Simeon has two huge matchups already on the calendar. Notre Dame is definitely a major contender for Burgess and he will be in South Bend when the Irish host Ohio State as he will double-dip with the Buckeyes since he’s seeing them again when they visit Michigan to close out the regular season.”

Depending on which of the four major recruiting services you look at, Burgess (6-foot-4, 241 pounds) ranks as high as No. 2 in overall in Illinois, No. 9 at edge and No. 114 nationally.

While his rankings are pretty consistent, Burgess’ recruitment seems to be wide open. On3’s prediction model currently has Notre Dame as a weak favorite at 29.1%, followed by Illinois (20.5%), Michigan (17.6%) and Ohio State (7.5%).

The Fighting Irish could certainly use a shot in the arm for their class of 2024. After ranking in the top five earlier in the cycle, they’ve stagnated and sunk to No. 12 in the nation.

Ohio State offers 2025 Illinois defense end after working out in front of coaches

The defensive end wowed the coaches at camp and earned an offer #GoBucks

Camp season is in full force and for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag], it gives them an opportunity to get to see and work with prospects up close.

The hands-on approach has helped the coaching staff evaluate prospects like Illinois 2025 defensive end, [autotag]Christopher Burgess Jr.[/autotag] The 6-foot, 5-inch, 260-pound lineman was offered a scholarship after working out at one of their camps on Tuesday afternoon.

Burgess Jr. is ranked as the No. 22 edge rusher and 255th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The Buckeyes aren’t the only major program after the talented defensive end, as Burgess Jr. already held offers from Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, and USC.

Ohio State has continued its recruitment of Illinois and has done a very good job selecting top-end talent in the state. The Buckeyes are recruiting Marquise Lightfoot and Justin Scott of the 2024 class and recently have signed Carnell Tate and Kaleb Brown, although Brown has since transferred out.
