Use ’em if you got ’em: Four potential Aggie true freshmen standouts

Use ’em if you got ’em: Four potential Aggie true freshmen standouts

The Texas A&M Football program has been absolutely obliterating the recruiting trail during the last two cycles, strategically plotting out their dominance since Jimbo Fisher touched ground in College Station, Texas in December of 2017. Since then, the program has steadily climbed the recruiting ranks year by year, signing a handful of 5-star talents each season, culminating in what is currently seen as the greatest recruiting class in not only program history, but the greatest of any recruiting class to date.

Now, as any recruiting nerd will tell you, on paper, these classes are something to be very excited about, but in order for them to hold up over time, the highly ranked players they contain must produce on the gridiron, with a select few contributing as soon as they step on the field for the first time. For the upcoming 2022 season, here are the four true freshmen who have a chance to compete for snaps right away:

1. Evan Stewart (Wide Receiver): As one of the top ranked WRs and athletes in the 2022 class, Stewart made his name known to Aggie fans everywhere during the spring game, catching 7 passes for 75 yards, while making a number of eye popping plays throughout the game. At 6’1″, 175, Stewart is a leaner wide receiver, but as a former track star, has the speed and athleticism to get on top of defenders and separate at a high rate, becoming an instant deep threat on any play.

2. Anthony Lucas (Defensive End): With Michael Clemons, DeMarvin Leal, and Jayden Peevy all leaving for the NFL,  Lucas, who stands at 6’5″, 275 has the chance to make an immediate impact off the edge in multiple fronts,  quickly showing his ability in the spring game, accounting for 8 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 tackles for loss. With incredible burst for his size, accompanied by great hand use and pad level, Lucas has the chance to become a scary option off the edge from the start.

3. Walter Nolan (Defensive Line): As the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2022 class, Nolan has a chance to join the defensive rotation sooner than later. At 6’5″, 300 pounds, Nolan has the size to push the pocket with speed to power paired with strong hands while providing a violent disposition defensively. With the defensive line facing departures, a “youth movement” of sorts may take shape with other players such as Lebbeus Overton, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, Anthony Lucas and Shemar Stewart, and Nolan has the opportunity to lead that group in snaps from day 1.

4. Chris Marshall (Wide Receiver): Is is just me, or is Chris Marshall the most underrated player in the class? with Caleb Chapman entering the transfer portal, Size on the boundary is sorely needed for the Aggies, and with Marshall standing at 6’4″, 200 pounds, he has the the speed, athleticism, and catch radius to become a nightmare matchup for defensive backs straight out of the chute.

Alabama makes four-star WR Chris Marshall’s top three schools

Four-star WR Chris Marshall cuts his list down to three schools.

The state of Texas has been one of Nick Saban’s pipelines over the past few recruiting cycles. Three migrated across the Mississippi River in the 2020 class and another seven during the historic 2021 class. All but one was ranked inside the top 200 on the 247Sports composite too.

While none have joined the 2022 class quite yet, there are plenty of targets Alabama is pursuing. Five-stars Evan Stewart (WR) and Denver Harris (CB) are the main two. Not too far behind is four-star wide receiver, Chris Marshall.

He announced his top three schools on Wednesday, with the Crimson Tide making the cut. Home state Texas A&M and USC were also on what should be Marshall’s final trim down list.

Auburn, Arizona State, Jacksonville State, LSU, and Oregon were cut from a top-eight released in early April.

Marshall did not start playing football until the beginning of his junior season. He finished with 45 receptions for 1,009 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns.

The insane numbers have continued into this season.

According to Maxpreps, he has 13 receptions for 454 yards and 11 touchdowns. Marshall has yet to play in the second half either with Fort Bend Marshall sitting at an 8-0 record.

Basketball is still in the works to play in college as well. That’s where the now four-star receiver intended on focusing his high school career before picking up the pigskin. According to Rivals, Houston, Ole Miss, Texas Southern, and Western Kentucky have offered on the basketball front.

As for his rankings as a football player, Marshall is the No. 86 overall player and the No. 12 wide receiver in the country. Within the state of Texas, he ranks as the No. 16 prospect on the 247Sports composite.

Four-star wide receiver Chris Marshall leaves Texas out of top eight schools

Chris Marshall recently released his eight schools, keeping Texas on the outside. Texas A&M was the only in-state school to make the cut.

Wide receiver spots in Texas’ 2022 recruiting class are going to be occupied by some of the best prospects in the country. Four-star Armani Winfield locked in his spot at halftime of the national championship, while four-star Evan Stewart decommited after less than a month.

Before looking out of the state, Steve Sarkisian and Andre Coleman were determined to grab the best pass catchers from Texas. Fort Bend Marshall’s Chris Marshall was thought to be a top priority after his amazing junior season. However, the four-star recently released a top eight schools list and the Longhorns were left out.

Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Jackson State, LSU, Oregon, Texas A&M, and USC are the only schools Marshall is still considering. Seeing only one in-state school is surprising for a top 35 in-state player.

Marshall’s first season of ever playing football was his junior year. He finished with 1,009 yards and 18 touchdowns on 45 receptions. Basketball had been the four-star’s main focus and will play into his college choice.

On the 247Sports composite, Marshall ranks as the No. 185 player and No. 23 wide receiver in the country. Within the state of Texas, he is the No. 31 overall prospect.

Seeing Sarkisian strike out on one of his top offensive targets seem strange, even just over three months into his tenure. Losing out on Marshall will likely force Texas to move out of the state to land an elite wide receiver. Kevin Coleman, Shazz Preston, and C.J. Williams will rise up the board with Marshall gone.

Auburn in top eight of 4-star wide receiver Chris Marshall

Four-star wide receiver Chris Marshall out of Missouri City, Texas has listed Auburn in his final eight schools.

Auburn is in the running for one of the top wide receivers in the 2022 class.

On Saturday, Chris Marshall out of Fort Bend Marshall High School in Missouri City, Texas released the final eight schools he will be looking at and the Tigers are one of them.

Ranked the No. 17 wide receiver in his class Marshall is 6-foot-3 and 195 pound. As a junior in 2020, he recorded 45 receptions for 1,009 yards and 18 touchdowns.

His eight schools also includes rials Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M along with Oregon, Jackson State, USC and Arizona State.
