Ohio State vs. Georgia early Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl odds set

What do you think of these odds? #GoBucks

The early odds for Ohio State vs. Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl have been set by our friends at Tipico Sportsbook, and for the first time this season, the Buckeyes will enter a game as the underdog.

And it’s not just a mild underdog, but a point spread of an entire touchdown, at -7 in favor of the defending champion Bulldogs. The line really hasn’t moved that much since it was released the day after all the bowl game matchups were set, but don’t be surprised if the spread moves just a tad bit towards Ohio State because the trend has been more money coming in on the Buckeyes, but not enough yet to really move the needle.

There’s no doubt that it’ll be a tall order for Ohio State to go into Georgia’s backyard in Atlanta and beat the No. 1 ranked team in the country, but at least the Buckeyes get a swing at trying to shock the world.

We’ll keep an eye on this line as we get closer to kickoff, but for now, head coach Ryan Day and his staff can play the underdog card to help motivate the team as it prepares for the trip down south.

Ohio State vs. Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl: Who has the advantage at each position?

We go back and forth with UGA Wire on whether Ohio State or Georgia owns the advantage at each position group heading into the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

If you are an Ohio State football fan, you are likely still coming to grips with the low and high tide of losing to Michigan but then still getting into the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes squeaked in after USC lost to Utah in the Pac-12 Championship game, so they got saddled with playing No. 1 seed Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, but at least they get a swing at the whole thing.

In fact, just as little as three weeks ago, Ohio State vs. Georgia was the national championship matchup many predicted and wanted to see. OSU was most likely going to have to elbow its way past the defending champions anyway, so why not do it out of the gate with maybe a chance to play the Wolverines again in L.A. for even bigger implications?

Ohio State will hopefully be as healthy as it has been all year when the two face off because it’ll need to be. From a talent standpoint, it’ll be a pretty even battle, but it depends on which position group you’re looking at. And of course, execution and preparation are going to go a long, long way in determining who wins this one.

As luck (or fate, or business model) would have it, we happen to have a sister site, UGA Wire, that obsesses with Georgia football as we do with Ohio State. We’ll be checking in with them from time to time leading up to the massive clash in Atlanta to collaborate and get a view of things from the UGA lens, and we’re kicking it off with a look at position-by-position advantages.

Featured writer and editor/publisher Joe Vitale was kind enough to go through each position group with us here at Buckeyes Wire to pick out whether Ohio State or Georgia has an edge at each position group.

We didn’t touch on the mascots (UGA vs. Brutus), but here’s the rest of the virtual dance battle between the two sites.

Everything Kirby Smart said about Ohio State during Chick-fil-A media availability

Here’s everything Georgia head coach Kirby Smart had to say about the matchup with Ohio State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl of the College Football Playoff.

The Ohio State football team has a daunting task in front of it, but one it sees as an unbelievable opportunity after most thought its season was dead with the crushing loss to Michigan during Thanksgiving weekend.

But now it gets real because Ohio State will match up with defending champion and No. 1 Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta. It took Georgia head coach Kirby Smart a few years to finally break through and win a national title, but now he’ has the Bulldogs at the top of the college football mountain.

Smart joined Ohio State head coach Ryan Day for the Chick-fil-A introductory coaches’ media conference on Sunday afternoon to discuss the matchup. Smart had a number of complimentary things to say about the Buckeye program that we’re able to bring to you.

Day echoed a lot of what he said in his presser in front of the Columbus media, but here’s everything Smart had to say when talking about the massive matchup with Ohio State.

There’s nobody that believes he has a second lease on life more than Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. He faced substantial criticism after the Buckeyes squandered chances late in the game against Michigan just over a week ago. Fans, media members and players left that game thinking that was it for all of the goals OSU had on the table.

Until it wasn’t.

USC losing to Utah in the Pac-12 Championship game put Ohio State back in the College Football Playoff as the No. 4 team.  Now the ultimate goal of winning a national title is back on the table. It’s been a dizzying week and shocking last 48 hours for all to come to grips with more highs and lows than a water park tide pool.

But, there’s now plenty to play for, and Ryan Day met with the local media in Columbus to discuss it all. Thanks to the Ohio State Buckeyes Facebook page. Hit the link below and hear Day discuss the renewed energy in the program, the challenge that facing Georgia presents, some injury updates, what it’s been like over the last week, and more.

Stay with us as we have continuing coverage leading up to, through, and after Ohio State’s appearance down in Atlanta in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl as the Buckeyes’ College Football Playoff journey continues.

Ryan Day on 2022 Dodd preseason watchlist for college football coach of the year

You have to think that Day has a good shot at taking this award home in 2022. #GoBucks

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day would tell you that preseason accolades don’t mean anything, but he himself has made a prestigious preseason watchlist that was released on Tuesday.

The Bobby Todd Coach of the Year Award is handed out annually to the FBS college football coach “whose team excels on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.” It is handed out by the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and has been around since 1976. Ryan Day is one of 20 names appearing on the preseason Dodd watchlist for 2022.

Day, entering his fourth full season as the coach of Ohio State, has an overall record of 34-4, has lost just one Big Ten game, has two Big Ten championships, and two College Football Playoff appearances. He has a team coming back that is expected to compete for the ultimate prize and is one of the bright, young, offensive minds in the game.

Jim Tressel is the only Ohio State coach to win the award back in 2002. This year’s recipient will be announced at halftime of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on December 31.
