Five reasons Ohio State can beat Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

We give you five reasons to be optimistic about Ohio State’s chances of beating Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Saturday night. How are you feeling about the game? #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team is putting together the final touches of its preparations for the massive clash in Atlanta. The Buckeyes will take on the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, and the winner will get a chance to play for all of the confetti and trophies in the College Football Playoff national championship game a week later in SoCal.

After the second-half meltdown against Michigan on Thanksgiving weekend, few are giving Ohio State much of a chance of knocking off the defending national champions, but we’ve seen this before (Alabama in 2014, Clemson in 2020 and Miami in 2002).

Can the Buckeyes shock the world and pull off the upset in Mercedez-Benz Stadium, or will it be another disappointment to bookend the lackluster effort against Michigan?

Here at Buckeyes Wire, we believe this should be one whale of a game, and give you five reasons Ohio State can take care of business and take home the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl trophy on New Year’s Eve.

So, let’s get to it …

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl drops epic hype video for Ohio State vs. Georgia

Warning – you might want to run through a wall after watching this Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl game trailer. #GoBucks

Fans, we’re just a few days away from a shot at redemption. Nothing can fully take away the sting of a loss to Michigan, but a win over No. 1 Georgia on Saturday night in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl would certainly ease the pain a bit.

Of course, this will be no easy task. The Buckeyes are playing the Bulldogs in their home away from home, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The stadium is a little over an hour’s drive from Athens, and this will be the third time this season UGA has played on this turf. Everything seems aligned for Georgia to make another title run, and few are giving Ohio State much of a chance.

But the games aren’t played on paper. Anyone can talk a good game, but once the pads are on and toe meets leather … anything can happen.

And just in case you aren’t already amped up enough for the Buckeyes vs. the Dawgs and a shot to play for a national championship, the good people at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl have dropped a hype video guaranteed to bring goosebumps. Give it a look below. It’ll be well worth the minute and 30 seconds of your time.

If you’re not ready to run through a wall after watching, you might want to check for a pulse.

The game against No. 1 Georgia in the playoff semifinal takes place on Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. EST. Be sure to check out our preview and prediction to get you ready for the big game.

Mike Doss named honorary Ohio State captain for Peach Bowl

20 years after bringing a national championship to Ohio State, Mike Doss will be on the field again as an honorary captain. #GoBucks

When you think of all-time Ohio State greats, Mike Doss has to be right there close to the top. Doss could have left Columbus after a stellar junior season, but he chose to come back and take care of some unfinished business for his senior year. He certainly delivered, giving Buckeye Nation its first national championship since 1968.

Now the former legend of the ‘Shoe and recent College Football Hall of Fame inductee will be on the field once again. Twenty years after taking Ohio State to the promised land, Doss will stand at midfield for the coin flip as an honorary Buckeye captain for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl matchup against Georgia.

On the UGA side, former star cornerback, Champ Bailey will take the field as the honorary caption for the Bulldogs.

Ohio State is preparing to take on No. 1 Georgia in the playoff semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Dec. 31 in Atlanta, Georgia. Be sure to check out our preview and prediction to get you ready for the big game.

Everything Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said about Ohio State and his team after arriving at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

Get a look at what Kirby Smart thinks about Ohio State after diving further into game film and preparation. #GoBucks #CFBPlayoff

We’re getting ever so close to the clash between No. 1 Georgia and No. 4 Ohio State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, one of the College Football Playoff semifinals, on Saturday night.

Both teams are in Atlanta and have gone through onsite prep work as they put the finishing touches on game plans and practices.

It’s a matchup many expected, midway through the season, to see in the national championship game. It is going to take place one game sooner than anticipated after Ohio State was upended by Michigan in the last game of the regular season.

It has been apparent Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has a lot of respect for the Ohio State program, coaches and players based on what we’ve seen and heard. He continued that theme in his first press conference on Monday.

Here’s everything Smart said about the Buckeyes and beyond after looking at more film and really diving into things as he stepped to the podium as his team continued to get his team ready for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

Everything Ryan Day said after the first day at the Chick-fil-A Bowl

Here’s everything Ryan Day said about Ohio State and the opponent, Georgia, after Day 1 in Atlanta at the site of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team is officially in Atlanta. It landed Sunday night to continue its preparations for Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal.

It’s been an up-and-down six weeks for Ryan Day and the program. The Buckeyes started the year with 11 straight wins before losing their regular-season finale against Michigan. They had to hope for an upset or two just to get into the College Football Playoff. Events went OSU’s way, and now there’s second-life in Atlanta.

Beat No. 1 Georgia and there may be a chance at redemption with a potential matchup against the Wolverines in the national championship game in Los Angeles.

Day met with the media at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Monday to discuss all of that. We have the full transcript of everything he said as Ohio State looks to put the finishing touches on the massive clash on Saturday night.

Let’s dive into the question and answer session from Day on Monday.

WATCH: Ohio State arrives at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

Catch video of the Ohio State football team arriving in Atlanta on Sunday to continue preparation for the Chick-Fil-A semifinal! #GoBucks

Prepping for a massive game takes focus, attention and purpose, but it really hits home when a team steps foot at the location where it’ll all go down. That’s exactly what happened with the Ohio State football team on Sunday.

It arrived in Atlanta to finish preparations for Saturday’s College Football Playoff semifinal matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

With Old Man Winter wreaking havoc on most of the country, it wasn’t exactly a balmy arrival. It was an important one nonetheless.

If you missed the video of OSU touching down in Atlanta, disembarking from the plane, and loading up on a pretty sweet ride to the hotel, you can catch it all here thanks to video provided by the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

Ohio State and Georgia will do battle this weekend at 8 p.m. ET inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium as a part of a College Football Playoff doubleheader on Saturday.

We’ll continue to have video, quotes, reaction and analysis leading up to, during and after the game, so stay with us.

See what uniform tops Ohio State will be wearing in the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl

They Buckeyes will look good on NYE #GoBucks

The Buckeyes always bring the swagger, especially when they wear different uniforms. Their affiliation with [autotag]Nike[/autotag] enables them to have multiple sets of tops and bottoms, and they are usually some of the best. For Bowl games, [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] always brings out its best and thatโ€™s exactly what we saw. Its official twitter account released which tops the Buckeyes will be wearing.

They will be in their road white, with red numbers, scarlet and gray piping on the sleeves with aย [autotag]Peach Bowl[/autotag] logo on the left shoulder. A neat addition to the uniform is the fight on the back collar, which is a reminder of the Buckeyes core values.

At some point, these will be available for purchase. For now, we have a teaser of what the Buckeyes will wear on New Yearโ€™s Eve against [autotag]Georgia[/autotag].

Buckeye Battle Cry Roundtable: What the one thing Ohio State must do an an elite level to beat Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl?

We ask each of our writers the one thing Ohio State has to do at an elite level to have a chance at knocking off Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

We are just a couple of weeks away from Ohio State traveling to Atlanta to play in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, and we’re going to have plenty leading up to the game. As we have all season though, we like to throw out some hot-button topics to our writers as a roundtable discussion we like to call our “Buckeye Battle Cry.”

With several varied opinions, it’s not often that everyone agrees — and in fact — there’s often mud flying as the debate heats up from writer to writer. Every once in a while though, everyone agrees and sings kumbaya and walks away with a tear in the corner of their eyes.

This week, the Buckeyes Wire team discusses the upcoming matchup with Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinal. Ohio State will be going against the No. 1 team in the country and No. 1 overall seed, so the Buckeyes will be a rare underdog in this one.

The topic for this installment of our BBC then is simple: “What does Ohio State have to do at an elite level to pull off the victory down in Georgia and advance to the national championship game?”

Mark Russell gets the conversation going for us.

TreVeyon Henderson to miss Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl vs. Georgia

Wishing Henderson a full and speedy recovery. #GoBucks

Ohio State will be without another one of its best players for the matchup with Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

The news about receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba not returning for the College Football Playoff appearance due to health and NFL draft concerns already made the rounds.

Now, running back TreVeyon Henderson, who has battled an injury all season long, confirmed on Twitter that he will not participate in the College Football Playoff semifinal.

According to a conversation with the Columbus Dispatch (subscription may be required), Henderson injured his foot in the third game of the season against Toledo and tried to push through it, but was never 100%. Henderson has to undergo surgery to repair torn ligaments to come back healthy next season.

โ€œI have to have surgery on my foot because it’s gotten that bad since the third game,โ€ Henderson told The Dispatch. โ€œIโ€™ve just been making it worse going back out there.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s real painful. I barely practiced all season. I went through a bunch of different cleats to try to push through it, but the pain was crazy. I really donโ€™t know how I was able to push through it in the games I did play in. I just tried to do the best I can.โ€

Henderson entered the 2022 season as a dark-horse Heisman candidate but never really show the explosiveness and big-play ability we saw during his freshman campaign. He finished the season with 571 yards and six touchdowns after a freshman season that saw him eclipse the 1,000-yard mark.

In his absence, Miyan Williams will most likely get the majority of the carries with budding star Dallan Hayden figuring into the plans in a big way as well. It’ll be interesting to see how much Chip Trayanum factors in as well.
