I want to love the Cubs in this game, but they are facing the best White Sox  pitcher this season. Crochet has been lights out, but has been on an innings limit. The Cubs will likely win this game against the White Sox bullpen.

If it was any other pitcher for the White Sox, I’d be all about the Cubs. Instead I’ll just avoid and look to the total.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

For the same reasons I don’t like the moneyline, I’ll avoid the run line as well. I do not see any edge and the odds don’t even make it tempting.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8 (-112).

I’m all in on the Under in this game because of the pitching matchup. The Under has hit in 2 of Taillon’s last 3 starts, and Crochet is 1-2-2 against the Over in his last 5.

Crochet has not allowed more than 3 ER in any start since April 24. Taillon has allowed more than 3 ER just once in his last 10 starts.

All signs point to this game being a pitching duel that’ll likely come down to the bullpens late.

I’ve got the Cubs taking the opener of this 4-game set behind Imanaga. He shut down the Cardinals earlier this season at Wrigley. That shouldn’t surprise anyone seeing that St. Louis hits just .227 against left handers. Chicago has a 3.27 team ERA at home.

The month of July was good for the Cubs offense, hitting .244 at a team which was the best of the season. They are also hitting nearly 40 points higher since the All-Star break.

Baltimore loves hitting against lefties, owning a nearly .800 OPS (.789) against them and a record of 15-10 on the season. C Adley Rutschman is batting .400 with a 1.092 OPS against southpaws.

Baltimore is also 22 games over .500 at Camden Yards while the Cubs are 17-28 on the road with a 4.45 team ERA.
