Bears Injury Report: CB Prince Amukamara limited Thursday

The Bears released their Thursday injury report, and DT Akiem Hicks looks to be good to go for Sunday against the Chiefs.

The Chicago Bears released their Thursday injury report ahead of Sunday’s primetime game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and there were some defensive standouts.

Defensive tackle Akiem Hicks once again did not pop up on the injury report, and Bears coach Matt Nagy said that Hicks will play Sunday against the Chiefs. Nagy has insisted that these final two games will be treated like the others in terms of starters playing.

Cornerback Prince Amukamara was listed as limited during Thursday’s practice. Amukamara continues to nurse a hamstring injury suffered against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. He played last week against the Green Packers, but second-year cornerback Kevin Toliver saw some playing time, as well. If Amukamara can’t go, expect Toliver to get his third career start.

Wide receiver Taylor Gabriel (concussion) and right tackle Bobby Massie (ankle) did not participate in practice for the second straight day this week. They haven’t played since Week 12, where they suffered injuries against the New York Giants.

4 bold predictions for Bears’ Week 16 matchup vs. Chiefs

Mitchell Trubisky tops Patrick Mahomes? Matt Nagy gets the best of Andy Reid. Our bold predictions for Bears vs. Chiefs in Week 16.

The Chicago Bears (7-7) will host the Kansas City Chiefs (10-4) in their regular-season home finale on Sunday Night Football, where there are still many questions that need to be answered for a Bears team that is headed home after their final regular season game next week.

While there’s nothing left to play for with the Bears officially eliminated from playoff contention, there’s still plenty to watch as young guys battle for roster spots in 2020 and Mitchell Trubisky has two more games to show the Bears he can be the guy in 2020 and possibly moving forward.

Here are four bold predictions for the Bears’ meeting against the Chiefs:

1. The student bests the teacher

The only time that Matt Nagy and Andy Reid have faced off was during a third preseason game back in 2018, where Reid played his starters into the third quarter and Nagy rested his. Nagy got the best of Reid — as his second team led by Chase Daniel marched down the field on the Chiefs and the second-team defense contained Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City’s offense.

But you can’t put much stock into preseason, which is why this game will be a good gauge on exactly if Nagy, the student, can best the teacher, Reid. It’s not a surprise that both coaches are very similar, considering Nagy learned from Reid. But it’ll be interesting to see how they approach their gameplans.

Nagy is coming off one of his worst games as a playcaller against the Packers, so he’ll be challenged to get back to the basics that make this offense work, including establishing the run game, rolling Mitchell Trubisky out of the pocket and utilizing the up-tempo offense.

POLL: Who wins Week 16 contest between Bears and Chiefs?

Mitch Trubisky vs. Patrick Mahomes. Matt Nagy vs. Andy Reid. Bears vs. Chiefs. Who wins?

When the Chicago Bears host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football, there will be two teams headed in different directions in January.

The Chiefs, who won the AFC West, will be preparing to make a run in the playoffs. The Bears, on the other hand, will be preparing for a long offseason with a laundry list of needs to address and questions to be answered.

Still, this is a game that is not short on storylines. This isn’t the first time, nor will it be the last time this week, that you’ll hear about this game as the Mitchell Trubisky vs. Patrick Mahomes game. That there needs to be a game played to validate that the Chiefs choose the better quarterback. It also won’t be the last time you hear about Matt Nagy vs. Andy Reid, as Nagy faces off against his former mentor.

With nothing left to play for, aside from pride, there’s still a lot to be gauged from these final two games. Can Trubisky rediscover what made him magic in the last two games? Will Nagy adjust his offense? Will there be any reassurance about the run game heading into the offseason? How will the Bears defense fare about Mahomes?

Bears vs. Chiefs will remain on Sunday Night Football in Week 16

Following speculation that Bears-Chiefs would be flexed out of primetime in Week 16, the game will remain on Sunday Night Football.

As the 2019 NFL season approaches the end of the regular season, there are plenty of games remaining with playoff implications. Just none that feature the Chicago Bears.

The Bears have officially been eliminated from playoff contention, following Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers and a Minnesota Vikings win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Bears are slated to face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football in Week 16. But heading into Week 15, there was some speculation that the NFL could opt out of that matchup if the Bears lost to the Packers, since Chicago’s season would be over. But the NFL has opted to stick with Bears-Chiefs in primetime on Sunday.

As far as candidates for that primetime spot, an NFC East game between the Dallas Cowboys (7-7) and Philadelphia Eagles (7-7) was one, but instead it will remain in the 3:25 p.m. slot on FOX.

Then there was a showdown between the New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans, but that game seemed to lose steam following the Titans’ loss in Week 15.

This Bears-Chiefs primetime matchup still has plenty of storylines that will be a draw, despite the lack of playoff implications considering the Bears are eliminated and the Chiefs have already locked up a spot.

This game will surely be dubbed the Mitchell Trubisky vs. Patrick Mahomes game, where the top two quarterbacks selected in the 2017 NFL Draft will face off for the first time.

Then there’s Matt Nagy vs. Andy Reid, where the student will square off against his mentor for the first time in a regular season game.

Given the Bears have been eliminated from playoff contention, they’re left playing for pride and the future beyond 2019.

Bears vs. Chiefs may still be flexed out of primetime

The NFL won’t make a decision on whether to flex out of Bears-Chiefs until after Chicago’s Week 15 game vs. Green Bay.

Fans wondering if the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs will still be Week 16’s primetime matchup on Sunday Night Football will have to wait a bit longer to find out the answer.

According to Adam Hoge of WGN Radio, the NFL has decided to open a six-day window to flex out of the Dec. 22nd matchup in favor of another that may have more significant playoff implications.

Aside from Week 17, the NFL normally must decide within 12 days whether to flex a game out of the Sunday night primetime slot in favor of another scheduled earlier in the day. But due to tight playoff races in both conferences, the league wants to ensure the most tantalizing matchup is on display for the country to see and is executing a similar window they use for Week 17, when the final game that has the most playoff implications is flexed into the slot.

If the Bears lose to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday and the Minnesota Vikings defeat the Los Angeles Chargers, Chicago would be eliminated from contention, and their game against the Chiefs would be meaningless for them. This would then prompt the NFL to flex them out of the slot. The New Orleans Saints vs. Tennessee Titans game would be the likely selection to be flexed in.

The NFL must make the decision by Monday, Dec. 16. By then, we should have a clear picture as to whether the Bears are in or out of the race for a playoff spot. For now, the Bears and Chiefs are scheduled to kick off Sunday, Dec. 22 at 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
