Notre Dame tackle Charles Jagusah might get the start against Ohio State

Charles Jagusah might get to be the starting left tackle this season after all.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish need to replace injured left tackle [autotag]Anthonie Knapp[/autotag] in the national championship game against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Knapp stepped into the starting role when redshirt freshman [autotag]Charles Jagusah[/autotag], who had been slated to be the starter, had a pectoral muscle injury in training camp. The injury was supposed to be season-ending, but the Notre Dame season has continued all the way to the national championship game.

So with Knapp, a true freshman, sidelined by a high ankle sprain suffered against Penn State, it seems fitting that the Jagusah might step in to replace him.

Head coach Marcus Freeman hasn’t yet made it official — the team plans to finalize offensive-line plans on Monday — but he did say that it’s “going in a direction” for Jagusah to start.

Notre Dame football releases depth chart ahead of Georgia matchup

Notre Dame’s depth chart for Georgia brings few surprises.

The No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish depth chart for the Allstate Sugar Bowl matchup against the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs is out.

The biggest name that’s not on it is [autotag]Rylie Mills[/autotag] — the defensive end is out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury suffered against Indiana in Notre Dame’s 27-17 win over the Hoosiers.

It appears [autotag]RJ Oben[/autotag] and [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] will replace Mills with [autotag]Joshua Burnham[/autotag], who also plays the Vyper pass-rush position, in the work.

Otherwise, there are few surprises on the depth chart. It’s nice to see [autotag]Howard Cross III[/autotag] back at the top for defensive tackle now that he’s returned from an injury of his own.

One notable absence is offensive lineman [autotag]Charles Jagusah[/autotag]. While indications were that he was ready to return from injury, he’s not listed on the chart. We’ll have to keep an eye on his availability against Georgia.

Notre Dame gets terrible news as another starter is out for the year

Terrible news for the senior, but some good news elsewhere

There was hope that Notre Dame football defensive end [autotag]Rylie Mills[/autotag] knee injury that he suffered against Indiana in the first-round of the College Football Playoff wasn’t serious.

Unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case, as on Monday during head coach Marcus Freeman’s press conference, he let everyone know that Mills will be out for the remainder of the year.

It’s another blow to the defensive line, which has now see Jordan Botelho, Boubacar Traore, and now Mills being ruled out for the year. Defensive tackle Howard Cross III did return against the Hoosiers, so that helped the depth. There is no one player that he singled out who will replace Mills, but knows that they have been preparing for this moment all season.

Freeman did bring some good news, as it looks like freshman offensive tackle [autotag]Charles Jagusah[/autotag] will be ready to go against Georgia. He was viewed as the potential starter in the spring and fall camps, and we didn’t expect to see him on the field this fall. How much he will play remains to be seen, but it’s great to hear that Jagusah is healthy again.

A few other updates that Freeman let us know about as linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, guard Rocco Spindler, linebacker Bodie Kahoun and wide receiver KK Smith are all questionable against the Bulldogs.

Initial injury report ahead of Texas A&M vs. Notre Dame

Here is the newest injury report for both Texas A&M and Notre Dame

Texas A&M will begin the Mike Elko era with a prime-time showdown, as 7th-ranked Notre Dame will travel to Kyle Field for the first time in over 20 seasons. On Monday, Elko, alongside left tackle Trey Zuhn III and linebacker Taurean York, spoke to the media ahead of the opener.

Noting the overall health of the roster entering the matchup, sophomore running back Reuben Owens is the only player slated to miss the opener after the sophomore sustained a season-ending lower-body injury during the middle of fall camp.

“Rueben (Owens) is our only [injury]. … A couple of kids with nicks and bruises, but nothing that’s holding them back. It has been a really successful fall camp from that perspective.”

Concerning the players with “nicks and bruises” that Elko is referencing, starting quarterback Conner Weigman is not among those names, as the redshirt sophomore is completely healthy after his elongated recovery post-offseason surgery.

Notre Dame’s injury list grew on Monday as senior cornerback Chance Tucker will reportedly miss the 2024 season, according to Irish head coach Marcus Freeman. Tucker will join sophomore tackle Charles Jagusah, who was lost for the season earlier this month.

No. 20 Texas A&M will host No. 7 Notre Dame on Saturday, August 31, at 6:30 p.m. CT, and the game will air on ABC.

Notre Dame’s O-line inexperience should greatly benefit Texas A&M’s pass rush

Texas A&M could have a huge advantage vs. Notre Dame’s young offensive line

In the wake of Notre Dame left tackle Charles Jagusah sustaining a season-ending injury earlier this month, plenty of movement is in the works under head coach Marcus Freeman, who is preparing his team for the season opener vs. Texas A&M inside what could be a sold out Kyle Field.

Knowing that the Irish O-line will face one of the top defensive lines in the country, especially after Aggie’s head coach Mike Elko landed former Purdue defensive end Nic Scourton from the transfer portal, Notre Dame O-line coach Joe Rudolph’s track record speaks for its self, but this will be a tough starting unit to assemble, and feel confident about ahead of the opener.

With Jagusah officially sidelined, it was revealed by The Athletics’ Pete Sampson that freshman Anthonie Knapp was working with the first-team offensive line this week over grad student tackle Tosh Baker at the left tackle spot. In contrast, redshirt freshman Sam Pendelton started at left guard during the team’s final open practice this week.

While the right side of the line consisted of multiple redshirt sophomores with some depth behind them, this provides Elko and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman to strategically move around Scourton, Turner, Stewart, and former Bowling Green Edge Cashius Howell to readily expose the inexperience of the left side of Notre Dame’s line.

A stat to note: All four Aggie pass rushers mentioned (Scourton, Turner, Stewart, Howell) combined for 27 sacks last season. Advantage Texas A&M for now.

Has Notre Dame found another diamond in the rough offensive lineman?

It’s not surprising to see the Irish unearth another underrated offensive lineman

Since Notre Dame football’s projected starting left tackle [autotag]Charles Jagusah[/autotag] went down with a season-ending injury, many have wondered who would take over the spot.

When we looked at the top candidates, [autotag]Anthonie Knapp[/autotag] wasn’t one of them, but he could be forcing his way into playing time. The true freshman from Georgia didn’t enter the program with much hype. He was ranked 332nd overall on the 247Sports composite.

Clearly recruiting isn’t an exact science, see Joe Alt, but one aspect Notre Dame has been able to do over the past few years is identify underrated offensive lineman. As reported by Pete Sampson, Knapp took first-team reps at tackle on Thursday’s practice, furthering that point.

It looks like the Irish have found yet another lower-rated prospect that will contribute to the program immediately. Even if Knapp isn’t the starter, it looks like he will play much sooner rather than later.

247Sports says two Notre Dame football former blue-chip players breakout

It wouldn’t surprise any of us if they break out

One of the advantages of playing freshman early, is they get the experience needed to perform in the future.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has done a great job of that, some out of necessity, others due to players forcing their way into the rotation. Running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] falls into the latter, as he got touches in every game.

Offensive tackle [autotag]Charles Jagusah[/autotag] falls into the former, as Joe Alt opting out of the Sun Bowl paved the way for the true freshman to get his first start. It should come as no surprise that 247Sports named each of them as a former blue-chip player that will breakout in 2024.

Both true sophomores figure to be focal points of the Irish offense this season, as they are expected to win the starting jobs. It’s almost as a breakout for them is eminent.

Is Notre Dame going to start a freshman at offensive tackle in the Sun Bowl?

Will we be seeing another freshman starter at tackle in the Sun Bowl?

When both starting Notre Dame offensive tackles, Joe Alt and Blake Fisher, declared for the NFL draft and opted out of the Sun Bowl, it left a massive pair of holes on the Irish offensive line.

It looks like Notre Dame could be leaning towards starting another true freshman. Both Alt and Fisher started in their first seasons and now it looks like [autotag]Charles Jagusah[/autotag] will be following in his teammates footsteps.

As head coach Marcus Freeman met with the media ahead of the bowl contest against Oregon State, he was asked who led the competition to start at those opens spots and the freshman from Illinois has been taking the reps with the first team on the left side and looks like he’ll get the nod.

Tosh Baker and Aamil Wagner are battling it out on the other side, but both have been in the program for multiple years. Jagusah was the highest ranked Irish commit of the 2023 class, as he was the No. 46 overall recruit of the class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Meet Notre Dame’s Now Complete 2023 Recruiting Class

Meet Notre Dame’s 26 current commitments in what is a top-five class nationally.

After a whirlwind couple of years the 2023 recruiting class has officially been completed at Notre Dame.  What started out tremendously hit a few snags along the way.  It closed with one of the strangest signing day stories you’ll ever see when Peyton Bowen bailed on Notre Dame for Oregon, only to change his mind and bail on Oregon for Oklahoma just a day later.

In all, Notre Dame wound up with 24 signed commitments after the second signing period in February.  It didn’t finish in the top couple of spots nationally like we had hoped after it’s tremendous start but will continue to add to the overall talent for Notre Dame.

Here are the 24 newest members of the Notre Dame football team:

Where each 2023 Notre Dame signee landed on ESPN’s final recruiting class update

The Irish class is loaded with talent

The first full class for [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] should be viewed at as a booming success for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] football. Not only did the Irish fill holes but they created a lot of depth across every position group. It was extremely impressive for the first-time head coach.

Today, ESPN released their final update to the 2023 recruiting cycle and there was plenty of Irish signees that were named on their list. Even though there weren’t any players ranked inside the top 50, Notre Dame players were still all around the list.
