Charles Barkley calls Grand Canyon’s game against Alabama ‘One of the dumbest I’ve ever seen’

Charles Barkley’s hilarious reaction to Grand Canyon’s “Dumbest basketball game he’s ever seen” vs. Alabama

There was a huge sigh of relief from the Alabama faithful Sunday evening as they secured an 11-point victory over Grand Canyon University to advance to the Sweet 16. The other feeling was one of ‘what in the world did I just watch?’

Granted it was not the prettiest game Alabama has ever played, Grand Canyon just played a game of pure chaos for two hours. With only five assists in the entire 40-minute game, it was like the Antelopes came down the court and just wanted to go one-on-one every possession with no control or composure. Grand Canyon also shot just 2/20 from three, turned the ball over 14 times and missed 14 free throws. There was just no rhythm about their offense and it was truly the most bizarre thing I have seen on the basketball court.

Auburn legend and March Madness personality [autotag]Charles Barkley[/autotag] was hilariously beside himself after watching Grand Canyon play the dumbest game of basketball he has also ever seen. Barkley said of the game, “I’m not sure what they were doing offensively, I don’t think they ran a play in the entire second half… That was some of the dumbest basketball I’ve ever seen grown college men play. [autotag]Mark Sears[/autotag] was the only guy who played with complete composure the entire game. Congratulations to Alabama University it’s a great school and [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] does a great job.”

The Tide will be back in action Thursday evening when they take on the No. 1 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels in the Sweet 16. Alabama enters the contest as a 4.5-point underdog.

Charles Barkley called the Grand Canyon loss to Alabama ‘the dumbest game of basketball’

Charles Barkley ripped the Lopes so much.

Charles Barkley is famously an Auburn alum, so you’d figure he’d show some bias against Alabama given their rivalry.

Nope. At least on Sunday, after Grand Canyon lost to Alabama in the second round of 2024 March Madness, the Hall of Famer congratulated the Crimson Tide on the win while ripping the Lopes.

“That was the dumbest game of basketball I may have ever seen,” he said on CBS. “I don’t think they ran a play the entire second half. … That was some of the dumbest basketball I’ve ever seen grown college men [play].”

“They just went one-on-one every single time. They didn’t run any plays!” he added.

Whew!

A Charles Barkley-themed blimp set Ernie Johnson up for the perfect joke

Okay, Ernie Johnson wins this round.

Legendary TNT sports broadcaster Ernie Johnson and former NBA star-turned-commentator Charles Barkley have a very strong friendship and on-air partnership, but those two will never miss a good joke.

As Capital One debuted a giant blimp themed after Barkley, the “Chuck Blimp,” that will travel to Phoenix, Arizona, for the Final Four, Johnson found the absolutely perfect moment to roast his pal and co-worker.

If you’re wondering, oh yes, Johnson said that the blimp’s Barkley head is accurate to size for Barkley’s actual head.

Now this is the kind of March Madness roasting that we need. You can bet that Barkley got a huge kick out of that and the blimp in general.

Johnson and Barkley’s rapport is one of the best parts of Inside the NBA and basically anything those two do in sports broadcasting, and we have to hand it to Johnson. That was a pretty sick burn on Barkley.

Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith faced off in a very funny game of March Madness ‘Name That Mascot’

Come play “Name That Mascot” with Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith!

During the first weekend of March Madness coverage, TNT’s Ernie Johnson and CBS Sports’ Clark Kellogg decided to test their fellow basketball analysts Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith in a mascot trivia game.

In a spirited round of “Name That Mascot,” Barkley and Smith had to try and guess who the mascots were as they were held up, and the results were expectedly hysterical.

We’re not really sure who “won” this game, but we felt like winners as Barkley and Smith riffed with each other about their answers and the mascots at hand.

All in all, this was a very fun break from all of Saturday’s basketball action, which you can also enjoy below.

Charles Barkley rooting for Michigan State to spite Kenny Smith was perfectly petty

Charles Barkley couldn’t help getting a few digs in at his co-host during March Madness

Charles Barkley doesn’t need to do a ton of research when it comes to picking his favorite teams each year in the men’s NCAA tournament.

If his Auburn Tigers are in the big dance, he’ll ride with his alma mater. And if the Tigers get knocked out — like they did on Friday in a massive Yale upset — he’ll just root for which ever teams are playing against the favorite teams of his NBA on TNT co-hosts.

With No. 1 North Carolina facing No. 9 Michigan State on Saturday, Barkley was asked about joining the Tom Izzo bandwagon and gave a very succinct and sarcastic answer.

“I want Izzo to win because I hate Kenny [Smith].” Barkley joked.

Smith seemed thrilled about the development.

Knowing you’ve just gotten under Barkley’s skin must still be so satisfying after all these years. Especially when Charles has certainly had worse reasons for picking teams in March.

WATCH: Nick Foles, Jalen Hurts among those congratulating Jason Kelce on retirement

Jalen Hurts, Nick Foles, Charles Barkley, Shaq, Jim Thome, and Joel Embiid were among those who congratulated Jason Kelce on retirement

Jason Kelce ended his 13-year NFL career on Monday, announcing his retirement in an emotional press conference that featured friends, family, and teammates.

The New Heights Podcast’s social media team released an emotional tribute video with Jalen Hurts and Nick Foles, among almost 20 video messages to Kelce to celebrate the moment and his accomplishments.

A sixth-round draft pick out of the University of Cincinnati in 2011, Kelce started and played in 193 games over his 13 seasons.

Jason Kelce is the fifth center in NFL history with at least six All-Pro selections. The other four — Jim Otto, Bulldog Turner, Dermotti Dawson, and Jim Ringo — are all in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Charles Barkley says he’ll ‘punch’ any Black person wearing a Donald Trump mug shot shirt

“If I see a Black person walking around with a Trump mug shot, I’m gonna punch him in the face.”

It’s no secret that Charles Barkley isn’t a fan of Donald Trump or his supporters — he’s been extremely outspoken about all of that before the former was elected president.

On his CNN show with Gayle King earlier this week, Barkley had more to say in response to Trump saying “the Black population” is walking around with shirts showing Trump’s mug shot.

When King asked how Barkley felt about that, the Hall of Famer took a deep breath and responded: “First of all, I’m just gonna say this: if I see a Black person walking around with a Trump mug shot, I’m gonna punch him in the face.”

King replied, “You really can’t say that, because you don’t mean that.”

But we know Barkley, and he’s not kidding, which is what he said in response. And remember, he’s the same guy who said he’d punch Aaron Rodgers in the face if he was Jimmy Kimmel.

NBA Legend Charles Barkley sends message to Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes

Charles Barkley sent a message to Kansas City #Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on ‘Inside the NBA’

The Kansas City Chiefs faced critics during their 2023 regular season run to Super Bowl LVIII. They were often picked as the underdog throughout the postseason, including their overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

The players have embraced the negative press, often using it as fuel during their winning streak. The critics usually aren’t referred to by name in any of the players’ press conferences or interviews unless their name is Charles Barkley. The basketball legend has made it no secret that he enjoys betting on games and has frequently better against the Chiefs throughout the postseason.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made sure to remind the world of Barkley’s prediction failures and not let them go unnoticed, as he recently addressed him on social media.

“Watching @NBAonTNT and trying to see if my man Charles is going to pick against the Chiefs again in the next round!” posted Mahomes on his X account.

Mahomes didn’t have to wait long for a response as Barkley took some time during the show to speak directly into the camera.

“Number one, you Travis and Chris Jones, Chris Jones, I love you, Andy Reid, congratulations,” said Barkley. “Yeah, I bet against you at Buffalo, I bet against you at Baltimore. And I bet against you in the Superbowl. I was zero for three. I got to wait until next year; congratulations, brother.”

Barkley hasn’t had the best track record in making bets or guarantees, as shown on the legendary basketball show Inside The NBA Mahomes and the Chiefs should probably hope that he continues to bet against them in 2024.

Shaq tried so hard to bait Charles Barkley into tagging Instagram posts with OnlyFans

Charles Barkley is now on Instagram, and Shaq is already trying to prank him with it.

BREAKING NEWS: Charles Barkley is on Instagram, after many years of saying it’s not happening.

Sure, it’s for — as he said on Thursday night on TNT — “business purposes,” and as you’ll see from his initial posts, that is blatantly clear.

But you’ve got to watch him talking about it with the crew, including Shaquille O’Neal, who tried SO HARD to prank Barkley by telling him to hashtag his posts with OnlyFans, which would be … a very bad idea.

Kenny Smith made sure to make that not happen, but it was hilarious.

Check out that and a conversation about sliding into DMs:

Charles Barkley thinks the Lakers get too much national coverage

TNT personality Charles Barkley is sick of all the media coverage the Lakers are getting despite their mediocre record.

The Los Angeles Lakers are such a heavyweight in the world of team sports that even when they aren’t that good, they still get lots of air time.

It’s especially been true over the last few years. In five previous seasons with LeBron James, they missed the playoffs twice and had to go through the play-in tournament on two other occasions. While one cannot really call the era a failure because they won the NBA championship in 2020, some would call it a disappointment.

Although L.A. has won 13 of its last 20 games, it is only in ninth place in the Western Conference with a 32-28 record. Few, if any, would call it a championship contender, which led TNT’s Charles Barkley to complain about the amount of media coverage the team still receives (h/t Sports Illustrated).

“I’m so sick of these fools on other networks talking about the Lakers and the (Golden State) Warriors,” said Barkley. “We don’t brag about any other play-in teams do we? I understand Steph (Stephen Curry) is great and LeBron is great, ain’t nobody worried about the Lakers and the Warriors in the West”

“… These teams in the West are not worried about the Lakers and the Warriors. We’ve been kissing these guys’ (expletive) so much. We don’t brag about the No. 9 team in the East. They ain’t got no chance. The Lakers and the Warriors, they’re on a little spell, they’re doing well, LeBron was amazing last night. But they’re not going to beat those teams up top … so stop juicing them up,” he added.

While the Lakers have had their issues this season, if they continue to win the majority of their remaining games, and especially if they finish in the top six in the Western Conference, they would be a dangerous team come playoff time. No one would want to face them in a best-of-seven.
