Chargers WR Mike Williams misses practice again, questionable vs. Jaguars

The Chargers could be without a key piece of their offense on Saturday night.

The Chargers had their final practice before the Wild Card round matchup with the Jaguars.

Not on the practice field for the second consecutive day was wide receiver Mike Williams. Williams is dealing with a back contusion he sustained in the regular season finale against the Broncos.

Williams is listed as questionable for Saturday’s game.

Brandon Staley said Williams will be a game-time decision, adding that he is progressing and they are prioritizing rest and treatment.

At the beginning of the week, Staley was asked if Williams could play even if he didn’t practice at all. “I think that’s fair to say,” he responded.

If Williams is ruled out or on a snap count, Joshua Palmer and DeAndre Carter would be in line to see additional playing time alongside Keenan Allen.

During the regular season, Williams caught 63 passes for 895 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games.

Injury update on Chargers WR Mike Williams

Chargers WR Mike Williams suffered back spasms.

The Chargers lost to the Broncos in spectacular fashion during their Week 18 matchup with their bitter divisional rivals. Along the way, they suffered a key injury.

Wide receiver Mike Williams went down with a back injury in the second quarter, which resulted in him being carted off the field. Williams never returned to the game.

The preliminary report is that Williams suffered back spasms. However, the x-rays were negative, and he will have more tests done tomorrow, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Brandon Staley said Williams “possibly” could’ve returned to the game at his post-game availability.

Heading into the NFL’s win-or-go-home playoffs next week against the Jaguars, the Chargers would be at a considerable disadvantage if Williams cannot play.

Their one-two punch with Williams and Keenan Allen is among the best in the league, but if one of the tandem is out for their first playoff game, it would not be good for this Los Angeles team that could make some noise.

Be sure to monitor Williams’ status moving forward, and stay tuned to Chargers Wire for developments as they occur.

Injury updates on Chargers’ Mike Williams, Chris Rumph II

Brandon Staley provided an update on Mike Williams and Chris Rumph on Monday.

The Chargers were hit with a few injuries during the Week 7 loss to the Seahawks.

The most notable was cornerback J.C. Jackson, who suffered a ruptured patellar tendon, and as a result, will miss the remainder of the season.

But Jackson wasn’t the only player who sustained an injury throughout the game.

Wide receiver Mike Williams suffered a high ankle sprain and will miss “weeks, not days,” according to Brandon Staley. Staley did not put a specific timeframe on Williams’ return.

Edge defender Chris Rumph II also got hurt late in the game and was diagnosed with an MCL sprain. As a result, Rumph will be out for weeks.

The Chargers are on a bye week this Sunday, allowing players who are banged up to heal. The injury bug has bit Los Angeles hard this season, so that time should be valuable.
