Chargers Thursday Week 8 injury report vs. Bears: WR Joshua Palmer a non-participant

Joshua Palmer was a non-participant for the second consecutive day.

The Chargers had their second practice before Sunday’s matchup with the Bears on Thursday.

Joshua Palmer (knee) was a non-participant for the second consecutive day. Palmer was the only player that did not practice.

Jalen Guyton and Otito Ogbonnia logged their first full practice since their season-ending injuries in 2022.

Los Angeles opened the 21-day practice window for them last week.

After missing practice on Wednesday, Gerald Everett (hip) was a limited participant.

Other limited participants were Alohi Gilman (heel) and Deane Leonard (hamstring), both of whom missed the last three games with their respective injuries.

Chargers TE Gerald Everett’s hip injury could prove costly

Gerald Everett is a key piece of the offense.

Gerald Everett initially was given a groin injury diagnosis in an official mid-game communication against the Chiefs on his status. Later on, head coach Brandon Staley revealed that Everett was actually dealing with a hip injury. On Wednesday’s practice report prior to the Sunday night matchup against the Bears, Everett was a non-participant with the aforementioned hip designation.

Not having Everett this week or for an extended period would prove costly from a blocking perspective for the Chargers. Tre’ McKitty and Stone Smartt rank 82nd and 84th, respectively, of 87 graded tight ends on Pro Football Focus. Donald Parham, traditionally a decent blocker, has also declined in performance this year as the 73rd-ranked tight end. It’s worth noting that he is specifically playing through his wrist injury recovery.

In Parham’s defense, he has been a big part of the Chargers’ red zone identity, as Kellen Moore has given him quality targets. Using his size and leverage in that area is huge for LA. But between the 20-yard lines, Everett is the team’s best receiving tight end in space. That’s in addition to being their best blocker.

McKitty was a healthy scratch last week against Kansas City. Asked about that as his media availability, Staley said the decision was more of a matchup-specific issue than anything regarding the former third-round draft pick. If Everett can’t go, McKitty would have to be active. It’s also possible that Nick Vannett could be activated off of the practice squad for the first time this season.

We’ll have to monitor Everett’s progress throughout the week to see if he can contribute for the Chargers on Sunday Night Football against Chicago.

Chargers Thursday Week 7 injury report vs. Chiefs: Jaylinn Hawkins carted off practice field

One day after being claimed, safety Jaylinn Hawkins was carted off the practice field.

The Chargers had their second practice before Sunday’s matchup with the Chiefs on Thursday.

One day after being claimed, safety Jaylinn Hawkins was carted off the practice field. Hawkins’ status is unknown, but he was listed with an illness on the injury report.

Los Angeles opened the 21-day activation window for both wide receiver Jalen Guyton (knee) and defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia (knee). They were in individual drills and were listed as limited.

After being listed as a non-participant in the estimated injury report, safety Alohi Gilman (heel) practiced in a limited capacity.

Edge defender Joey Bosa (toe) and safety Derwin James (ankle) were also limited participants.

Cornerback Deane Leonard (hamstring) and linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga (groin) did not practice.

Austin Ekeler logged three full practices and will play for the first time since sustaining an ankle injury in the season opener against the Dolphins.

Justin Herbert (finger) is also off the injury report.

Alohi Gilman (heel) and Deane Leonard (hamstring) are doubtful.

With Gilman likely out, Los Angeles could resort to Dean Marlowe and Raheem Layne, who were the ones who got the start in place of Gilman and Derwin James in Week 4.

With Leonard sidelined, Essang Bassey will be the primary cornerback off the bench.

Joey Bosa (toe), Donald Parham (wrist) and Nick Williams (back) are questionable.

Chargers’ Corey Linsley to be placed on injured reserve

The Chargers will be without Corey Linsley for at least the next four games.

The Chargers will be without starting center Corey Linsley for at least the next four games.

According to multiple reports, Linsley is going to be placed on injured reserve with a non-emergent heart-related medical issue.

Linsley will continue working with doctors and specialists in the coming days.

With Linsley out, L.A. will turn to Will Clapp to resume the duties as the starter at center.

Signed last offseason, Clapp started three games while Linsley was out with a knee injury, food poisoning and a concussion in 2022. He was strong in pass protection, allowing just four pressures on 252 pass-block snaps.

Signed in 2021, Linsley has appeared in 33 games. In his first season with the Bolts, he was named second-team All-Pro and made his first Pro Bowl.

Corey Linsley ruled out, Austin Ekeler, Derwin James doubtful for Week 4 vs. Raiders

The Chargers have a lengthy final injury report.

The Chargers will be without several key players when they face the Raiders this Sunday.

Corey Linsley (illness) and JT Woods (illness) have all been officially ruled out for the Week 4 game.

With Linsley out, Will Clapp will be the starting center this weekend.

Additionally, they are likely going to be without Austin Ekeler (ankle), Derwin James (hamstring) and Deane Leonard (hamstring/toe), who are listed as doubtful.

This marks the third straight game that Ekeler will miss. Joshua Kelley will resume the role as the primary running back, with Isaiah Spiller and Elijah Dotson serving as the complementary backs.

Without Woods and James, the safety room is thin. Alohi Gilman is questionable with a heel injury. Dean Marlowe and AJ Finley will likely be promoted from the practice squad.

Joey Bosa (hamstring/toe) is also listed as questionable. Rookie Tuli Tuipulotu should see an uptick in snaps.

Chargers final injury report vs. Vikings: Austin Ekeler, Eric Kendricks ruled out

The Chargers will be without Austin Ekeler and Eric Kendricks for the second straight week.

The Chargers had their final practice ahead of the Week 3 game against the Vikings this weekend.

Los Angeles is set to be without Austin Ekeler and Eric Kendricks for the second straight week as they continue to nurse their ankle and hamstring injuries, respectively.

Joey Bosa, Daiyan Henley, Christopher Hinton, Chris Rumph are all questionable.

Without Ekeler, Joshua Kelley will fill in as the primary back. Kelley finished with only 13 carries for 39 yards against a stiff Titans run defense last Sunday.

Isaiah Spiller and Elijah Dotson are the other two backs on the 53-man roster. Last weekend, Dotson out-snapped Spiller so we will see if that changes this time around.

Without Kendricks, Kenneth Murray will wear the green dot and be the primary defensive play-caller again. Murray had arguably the best game of his career against Tennessee.
