Pac-12 honors four Duck women’s basketball hoopers

Four Oregon women’s basketball players were handed some Pac-12 awards for their regular season performance.

With the Pac-12 women’s basketball regular season in the history books, the conference came out with its awards and four Ducks were honored.

Senior Endyia Rogers was named as an All-Pac-12 performer with Chance Gray and Grace VanSlooten both named to the All-Freshmen team. Point guard Te-Hina Paopao is an honorable mention. VanSlooten was also an honorable mention and Gray is on Pac-12 All-Defensive Team Honorable Mention.

Rogers collects her second straight all-Pac-12 honor at Oregon while being voted to the team for the third straight season overall (once at USC). The Dallas, Texas, product is averaging a career-high and team-leading 16.1 points per game while finishing second in the Pac-12 in scoring during conference play at 18.2 points a contest.

Paopao was an all-conference pick for the third straight season, as she was a first-team selection in 2021 and 2022. The junior guard from Oceanside, Calif., is averaging 11.9 points, four rebounds, and three assists. She has scored at least 20 points in her last three games, including a season-high 23 with a career-best seven three-pointers in the regular-season finale against Arizona State.

The Ducks begin the post-season Wednesday afternoon with a date with Washington in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas. Oregon must most likely defeat the Huskies to get into the NCAA tournament.

Oregon WBB recap: Ducks fall 85-84 in overtime to WSU

Washington State survived a late rally and defeated Oregon 85-84 in overtime inside Matthew Knight Arena.

This will be a game to be remembered, but unfortunately for the Ducks, the ending didn’t turn out to be what Oregon hoped for.

Oregon erased a nine-point deficit with under three minutes to play, tied the game with 0.1 seconds left to send it into overtime only to lose 85-84 to Washington State.

Te-Hina Paopao’s jumper at the buzzer was off the mark and the Cougars defeated the Ducks for the first time in eight tries. Oregon drops to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play. WSU improved to 13-4 and 3-3 in Pac-12 play.

Endyia Rogers led all scorers with 33 points and Chance Gray finished with 22 points, but in the end, it was massive defensive breakdowns way before the overtime period that was the Ducks’ downfall.

Oregon WBB recap: Ducks ground the Pilots with pressure defense

Oregon explodes for 33 points in the third quarter to run away from Portland 90-51.

Portland’s game plan was to press and pressure the Oregon women’s basketball team for turnovers and easy hoops on the other end.

The Pilots didn’t figure the Ducks (6-1) would turn the tables.

Oregon forced 21 turnovers and scored 32 points off of those turnovers to cruise to an easy 90-51 win over Portland of the West Coast Conference.

Freshman Chance Gray led Oregon with a career-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including knocking down 4-of-8 from long distance. Phillipina Kyei added 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Te-Hina Paopao scored 10 pounds and dished out eight assists while Taylor Hosendove came off the bench and just missed out on a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.

It was a close game at halftime as the Ducks led 40-29, but then put it all together in the second half and routed the Pilots, who fell to 5-4 on the season.

Five-star point guard Chance Gray sat down with USA TODAY High School Sports Awards‘ Randy Buffington in the latest edition of “Rapid Fire.”

The Winton Woods High School (Cincinnati, Ohio) standout has been putting on a display this season, something she credits to her father—which brings up a cool tidbit about Chance, as Randy explains: “… her father Carlton Gray is her head coach alongside Chance’s sister Amber who is one of the assistants. Carlton is also a former NFL defensive back and coaches the football team won a state championship this past year.”
