Cowboys have healthy roster to face Cardinals in Week 17

Every player on the 53-man roster was a full participant in practice on Friday and no player had a game designation on the final report of the week.

The Dallas Cowboys wrapped up their week of practice on Friday in preparation for their Week 17 home game against the Arizona Cardinals.

While they have eight players on injured reserve, their 53-man roster is completely healthy.

They released their final injury report of the week and not a single player had a game designation. Every player participated fully in practice on Friday.

Receiver Malik Turner (calf) began the week limited but was a full participant Thursday and Friday.

Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence (foot) and left tackle Tyron Smith (ankle) were limited Wednesday and Thursday but both had full participation on Friday.

The Cardinals ruled out two players — defensive tackle Jordan Phillips (knee) and cornerback Marco Wilson (shoulder).

Another six are questionable and will be gameday decisions Sunday morning. That group includes safety Budda Baker (ribs), running back James Conner (heel), tight end Demetrius Harris (shoulder), center Rodney Hudson (coming back from COVID list), guard Sean Harlow (coming back from COVID list) and receiver Rondale Moore (ankle).

Cardinals ‘working through’ options at LT with D.J. Humphries’ absence

With D.J. Humphries out this weekend on the COVID list, the Cardinals will either have Kelvin Beachum, Josh Jones or Josh Miles at left tackle.

The Arizona Cardinals have to make a late-week adjustment at left tackle in Week 17. Left tackle D.J. Humphries landed on the COVID list Thursday, meaning he will miss the game on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cardinals have options to work with at left tackle but head coach Kliff Kingsbury did not have a definitive answer as to what the plan was for left tackle.

“We’re working through it,” he said on Friday.

They could go with right tackle Kelvin Beachum, who was basically exclusively a left tackle until last season when he signed with the team. They have backup Josh Miles and second-year pro Josh Jones, who played left tackle in college, was drafted to play right tackle and has seen time at guard this year.

“It’ll be a combination of one of those three guys, maybe multiple,” he said.

If Beachum is moved to left tackle, Jones likely would play right tackle. That would cause the most movement on the line.

If Jones or Miles start at left tackle, then only one position is changed, rather than two.

Of course, whoever fills in will have a challenge. The Cowboys have a fearsome trio of edge rushers this season with rookie Micah Parsons and veterans DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory.

Parsons has 13 sacks, Gregory has six and Lawrence has two.

Cardinals activate OL Sean Harlow from COVID list

The Cardinals have four players from the 53-man roster remaining on the COVID list heading into the weekend.

The Arizona Cardinals had five players get placed on the COVID list this week after testing positive for the virus. One of them is coming back.

The team announced that offensive lineman Sean Harlow was activated from the COVID list. That leaves four players still on it. He was placed on the list on Monday along with outside linebacker Markus Golden.

There is the chance that Golden could be activated and be able to play this week.

Harlow will help with the offensive line depth, although he doesn’t usually start unless there is an injury. The Cardinals will be down a starting offensive lineman because left tackle D.J. Humphries tested positive and was placed on the list on Thursday. He will not be able to play Sunday, meaning the team will have to shuffle things around on the offensive line. Center Rodney Hudson returned, so four of the five starters will be in the lineup.

Arizona’s four players remaining on the COVID list are Humphries, Golden, cornerback Breon Borders and linebacker Devon Kennard. Safety Javon Hagan is on the practice squad COVID list.

LT D.J. Humphries lands on COVID list, will miss game vs. Cowboys

Humphries is the fifth Cardinals player this week to be placed on the COVID list, leaving a void at left tackle.

The Arizona Cardinals will be without yet another starter this weekend when they face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17. Left tackle D.J. Humphries became the fifth Cardinals player to be placed on the COVID list this week.

He was added to the list on Thursday. Even with new guidelines for return after testing positive for COVID-19, Humphries will be unable to get cleared before Sunday.

It will be his first game missed since 2018.

With Humphries out, the question is how they will shuffle the offensive line. They could move Kelvin Beachum from right tackle to left tackle, where he played his entire career before coming to Arizona. They could use Josh Jones, who played left tackle in college, or Josh Miles, who is the backup left tackle.

Humphries joins cornerback Briono Borders, offensive lineman Sean Harlow and outside linebackers Markus Golden and Devon Kennard on the COVID list.

LB Devon Kennard is latest to land on COVID list for Cardinals

Kennard joins three other Cardinals, including fellow OLB Markus Golden, on the COVID list. Kennard won’t be able to play against the Cowboys.

The Arizona Cardinals suddenly have depth issues at outside linebacker. On Wednesday, they placed outside linebacker Devon Kennard to the COVID list, joining fellow outside linebacker Markus Golden and others.

By landing on the list Wednesday it means, even with updated guidelines for league protocols, he will be unable to be activated before the Cardinals play the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Kennard would have been in line to start on Sunday in place of Golden. Instead, it leaves them with Chandler Jones, Dennis Gardeck and rookie Victor Dimukeje at the position. Isaiah Simmons can also play outside linebacker.

The Cardinals now have four players from the 53-man roster on the COVID list — Kennard, Golden, offensive lineman Sean Harlow and cornerback Breon Borders. Another — safety Javon Hagan — is on the practice squad COVID list.
