Cardinals get thinner at CB as Breon Borders lands on COVID list

The Cardinals now have only two healthy cornerbacks on the roster with Byron Murphy and Antonio Hamilton.

The Arizona Cardinals entered the week thin at cornerback. Robert Alford is on injured reserve and Marco Wilson has a shoulder injury. They were going to sign veteran cornerback Bashaud Breeland but he tested positive for COVID-19 so that didn’t help.

Now they are down another cornerback. Breon Borders landed on the COVID list Tuesday.

Borders was signed a couple of weeks ago off the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans. He has not been active yet for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals also placed safety Javon Hagan, who is on the practice squad, on the practice squad COVID list.

As things stand, the only healthy cornerbacks on the roster are Byron Murphy and Antonio Hamilton. They also protected Kevin Peterson and Jace Whittaker on the practice squad. It would appear that the Cardinals will have Murphy, Hamilton and Peterson as their three starters when they take on the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, provided Wilson is able to play.

The Cardinals now have four players on the COVID list — punter Andy Lee, linebacker Markus Golden, guard Sean Harlow and Borders. Hagan is on the practice squad COVID list.

CB Marco Wilson’s status unknown, other injured players day-to-day

Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury gave some information about the team’s injured players on Monday.

The Arizona Cardinals are dealing with a number of injuries. Three key players missed the game on Sunday and two exited with injuries.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury gave some updates on Monday when he spoke with reporters about the status of those players.

The most concerning injury is to cornerback Marco Wilson, who hurt his shoulder on Saturday. Kingsbury didn’t say much.

“Marco, we’ll see on Wednesday where that stands,” he said. “Still being evaluated right now.”

Based on the reported addition of veteran cornerback Bashaud Breeland, there is apparently concern that he could miss time.

Safety Charles Washington left the game with a hamstring issue, which is what caused him to go on injured reserve for most of the season.

Kingsbury said he should be all right.

“Charles is OK,” he said. “He’s still just dealing with that hamstring, but he feels good. He feels like he’s made strides. I think he’s been protecting it a little bit, but he’s played at a high level, and I think he’s managed it well.”

Running back James Conner (heel), receiver Rondale Moore (ankle) and defensive lineman Jordan Phillips (knee) all missed the game this past week. Kingsbury said nothing has changed with them. They are all day-to-day.
