Sabrina Ionescu makes WNBA history yet again

Sabrina Ionescu became the first WNBA player to record 500 points, 200 rebounds and 200 assists in a season.

Just three days ago, Sabrina Ionescu became just the second player in WNBA history with 500 points, 200 rebounds, and 150 assists.

She’s at it again.

The former Duck and current New York Liberty star doesn’t have to share the spotlight with Candace Parker anymore as she became the first player in league history to score 500 points, grab 200 rebounds and dish out 200 assists in a single season.

The record-breaking assist came early in the contest with the Phoenix Mercury where the Liberty (13-18) are aiming for their fourth straight win.

It’s been an incredible season for Ionescu as she is playing free and healthy for the first time in her short three-year professional career and the dividends are paying off big time.

Candace Parker continues to make WNBA history in the flashiest way possible

Parker continues to be an incredible basketball player.

If you didn’t already know, Candace Parker is one of the greatest players to ever play the game of basketball. She’s a two-time WNBA champion, has two league MVP awards and has been one of the faces of the W since entering back in 2008.

And in her age-36 season, she continues to add to her legend.

Last week, Parker became the first player in WNBA history to record three career triple-doubles. On Wednesday, she became the only WNBA player to reach 6,000 points, 3,000 rebounds and 1,500 assists in a career after dishing a sweet, no-look dime to Kahleah Copper on the fastbreak.

A no-look assist to enter the history books? How fitting that is for Parker, who is still one of the most fascinating players to watch.

PHOTOS: Former Lady Vol Candace Parker through the years

Candace Parker played at Tennessee from 2004-08.

Parker won two national championships with the Lady Vols (2007-08). She was a three-time All-America and All-SEC selection.

While at Tennessee, Parker averaged 19.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.9 steals and 2.4 blocks per game. Her No. 3 jersey was retired by the University of Tennessee on Jan. 2, 2014.

Parker was selected No. 1 overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2008 WNBA draft. She won the 2016 WNBA championship with the Sparks.

The former Lady Vol played for Los Angeles from 2008-20. In 2021, Parker became an unrestricted free agent and signed with the Chicago Sky.

Parker and Chicago won the 2021 WNBA championship.

Below are photos of Parker through the years.

Candace Parker became the first WNBA player with 3 triple-doubles and did it against her old squad

A triple-double in three quarters?!

Do yourself a favor and go take a look at Candace Parker’s list of accomplishments. Actually, you’ll need to set aside time for that — it’s a LONG list. A list that grew longer on Thursday night when she and her Chicago Sky notched a decisive 82-59 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.

Parker notched 10 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in the win, becoming the first WNBA player with three career triple-doubles. Oh, and she did it in three quarters.

The record-setting night was likely even sweeter being that it came in Los Angeles, at Crypto.com Arena, against the Sparks.

The arena formerly known as Staples Center was Parker’s home for 13 seasons after being drafted by the Sparks in 2008. There, she became a two-time league MVP (2008 and 2013), a champion (2016) and a five-time All-Star, amongst other things.

But Parker left LA during the 2021 free agency for her hometown Chicago Sky, whom she went on to win a WNBA championship with in Year 1.

In her first visit in a different uniform and back in the arena she used to call home, Parker made sure it was a special night.

Parker has +6000 odds at Tipico Sportsbook to win MVP, and the Chicago Sky are +400 to repeat as champions.

Candace Parker absolutely loved her new custom shoes, but not as much as the mini pair gifted to her son

These custom sneakers for Candace Parker’s son are perfect.

Tuesday was a day of celebration for the reigning WNBA Champion Chicago Sky. Here’s what their evening looked like:

One WNBA Championship ring for each remaining member of the 2021 team. One WNBA Championship banner unveiling. One win over the Indiana Fever.

And the celebrations didn’t stop at the final buzzer, it spilled into the locker room where each member of the team was gifted a pair of customized Adidas shoes.

Candace Parker, in particular, seemed to like hers quite a bit. But she really appeared to be in love with the custom kicks gifted to her in infant sizes.

The infant sneakers were reserved for Parker’s three-month son Airr Larry Petrakov Parker. The kind gesture made Parker visibly emotional and drew a few audible reactions from everyone in the locker room

What a cool moment for everyone involved.

These Chicago Sky championship rings featuring the (former) Sears Tower are already iconic

The Chicago Sky are presented with their 2021 championship banner and rings.

On Tuesday night, the Chicago Sky earned their fourth win of the young 2022 WNBA season when they beat the Indiana Fever 95-50 in front of 7,741 fans at Wintrust Arena.

All who were in attendance were treated to much more than just a fantastic and entertaining battle between two Eastern Conference teams, however. The night was more about what took place before the game — the celebration of the Sky’s 2021 WNBA Championship.

The pre-game ceremony included each present member of the championship team receiving some amazing-looking championship rings featuring the Willis Tower (generally still known worldwide as the Sears Tower), which was then followed by the unveiling and raising of the championship banner to the rafters.

The Sky lost their opener to Sparks after absurd foul call forced OT, and fans were furious

A bad stroke of luck for the defending champs.

A year after their first WNBA title, the Sky enter the 2022 season with high hopes.

One of the league’s deeper teams, Chicago seems poised to repeat. Hey, with Candace Parker and Courtney Vandersloot, that sort of success almost seems inevitable.

And, in all likelihood, they may still get that repeat title yet. But in Game 1, at the beginning of their title defense, the Sky (-3.5 point favorites coming in) lost a 98-91 heartbreaker to the Sparks. They’ll probably move on from this soon but, thanks to a terrible call, it doesn’t sting any less.

Let’s take it to the end of the fourth quarter, with the Sky nursing an 88-85 lead. Jordin Canada took the ball the length of the court before pulling up for a three, as Dana Evans came to challenge her. When Canada rose, it seemed Evans made contact, and the officials gifted Canada three throws to force overtime. There, L.A. would eventually pull away and win.

But did Evans really foul her?

Oh no. Oh goodness, no. That is the definition of a soft call. Like, it’s nonexistent contact that should have never decided the final result. That’s absurd officiating which took away a win from the Sky.

Fans watching the game were similarly displeased about the call.
