The final game of the season against the Kansas Jayhawks has been canceled. The Texas Longhorns are now dealing with a reported 21 cases.
There had been much speculation leading up to the game against the Kansas Jayhawks as to whether or not the Texas Longhorns would play this game. That speculation has been put to rest.
According to the Big 12 Conference, much like the Oklahoma Sooners-West Virginia Mountaineers matchup, it has been canceled. The game will be ruled a no-contest and the Texas Longhorns finish the season with a 6-3 (5-3) record.
Texas Longhorns atheletic director released the following statement:
We are pausing all football team activities and shutting down the football training facilities to get a COVID-19 spread among our football team under control. We currently have nine student-athletes and 13 staff members who have tested positive this week, all of whom are in self-isolation. An additional 14 student-athletes and 15 staff members have been identified in contact tracing, and per COVID-19 protocols, are in quarantine at this time.
We will continue daily testing, monitor the situation and adhere to all of the medical team’s health and safety protocols as we move forward with an abundance of caution in this situation. We’re extremely disappointed that we won’t be able to play our final regular season game at Kansas this week, but look forward to returning to action four our bowl game in the coming weeks. -Chris Del Conte
Unfortunately for the seniors who won’t return for another season, their final year won’t end with a seventh win in the regular season. The Longhorns will now await to see who they play and at which bowl venue. It will be made official following the College Football Playoffs final rankings. The Longhorns currently sit at No. 20 in the polls.

Now speculation will begin as to which players could return to give another go at the Big 12 Championship run. Also, a question of will Tom Herman return to lead that team.
Next up for the Longhorns will be signing their early signees for the 2021 recruiting cycle on Dec. 16.
What a fitting end to the 2020 college football regular season for the Texas Longhorns.
