Knoxville Regional: Tennessee-Campbell baseball game time announced for Saturday

No. 1 Tennessee (54-7) defeated Alabama State, 10-0, Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Friday’s game started play in the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional. Alabama State, Campbell and Georgia Tech make up the field in the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional.

Campbell defeated Georgia Tech, 15-8, Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The winner of the Knoxville Regional will play the winner of the Statesboro Regional in Super Regional play.

Georgia Southern, Notre Dame, Texas Tech and UNC Greensboro are competing in the Statesboro Regional.

Campbell defeats Georgia Tech to open Knoxville Regional.

Campbell notched a victory Friday in game No. 1 of the NCAA Tournament’s Knoxville Regional.

The Camels, a No. 3 seed in the region, defeated second-seeded Georgia Tech, 15-8, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Campbell (41-17) scored five runs in the second inning against the Yellow Jackets (34-23).

The Camels had three home runs in the contest and six doubles against Georgia Tech.

Jarrod Belbin, Logan Jordan and Ty Babin all hit home runs against Georgia Tech, which never led in the contest.

Connor Denning was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.

Babin, the Camels’ catcher went 2-for-5 with five RBIs.

Campbell’s Thomas Harrington (12-2) pitched seven innings. He allowed five runs, nine hits and two walks. He struck out two.

Tim Borden II went went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, four RBIs and three runs for Georgia Tech.

NCAA Tournament: Lady Vols defeat Campbell

The Lady Vols opened the 2022 NCAA Tournament with a victory Friday against Campbell.

No. 11 Tennessee defeated Campbell, 9-1, in six innings at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

The game ended when Amanda Ayala drew a walk with the bases loaded to plate Ashley Morgan for Tennessee (40-16).

The contest ended with the Lady Vols earning a run-rule.

The Camels (37-18) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Kayla Fredendall hit a solo home run.

Tennessee, however, answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame when Kelcy Leach scored on an error.

The Lady Vols took the lead on a three-run single by Zaida Puni.

McKenna Gibson extended UT’s lead to 5-1 with a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Tennessee added three runs in the fifth inning as Kiki Milloy, who went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two stolen bases and a run scored, hit a two-run single. Rylie West scored on a wild pitch.

Ashley Rogers pitched three innings of scoreless relief to improve to 11-5 on the season. She walked one and struck out six.

Erin Edmoundson started for the Lady Vols. She pitched three innings and allowed one run and one hit, while striking out two.

Tennessee advances in the winners bracket and will face Oregon State at noon EDT Saturday.

The Beavers defeated Ohio State, 4-3, to open the Knoxville Regional.

Saturday will be the second meeting of the season between Oregon State and the Lady Vols.

The Beavers defeated Tennessee, 5-2, at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Feb. 25 in Cathedral City, California.

Campbell golf teammates make holes-in-one in same round

For the second time in a week, two golf teammates made a hole-in-one in the same round.

Campbell University’s Edwin Blomander and Henrik Lilja are the latest pair to pull off the trick on Sunday. Five days ago, two high school teammates in Arizona pulled it off. The high school kids did it on the same hole in consecutive groups.

Blomander is a junior and Lilja is a sophomore. They are both from Sweden.

In a tweet announcing the feat, Campbell asked about the odds of two aces in the same round.

The National Hole-In-One Registry reports that the odds are 67 million to 1.
