Ex-Titans WR Cameron Batson arrested after police chase

Former Titans and current Falcons WR Cameron Batson was arrested early Saturday morning after a police chase.

Former Tennessee Titans and current Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Cameron Batson was arrested early Saturday morning following an alleged altercation and chase with police after being pulled over.

According to a release from the Atlanta Police Department, via ESPN.com, Batson was pulled over around 2 a.m. Saturday morning “after speeding and failing to maintain his lane on an interstate.”

During the stop, Batson “was deemed intoxicated by an officer before the situation turned physical after the wide receiver allegedly resisted arrest.”

Per police, in the midst of the alleged altercation with the police officer, the officer fired his gun but didn’t hit anyone. Batson then retreated to his truck and drove away before eventually crashing and fleeing on foot.

He was later found by police while hiding and was arrested. Details of the exact charges against the NFL receiver have not been announced.

The Falcons released this statement in the wake of the news:

“We have been made aware of an overnight incident involving Cameron Batson and are currently gathering information from law enforcement agencies,” the team said. “We take this matter seriously and have no further comment at this time.”

Batson spent four seasons with the Titans from 2018-2021, spending time on both the practice squad and the 53-man roster. He is currently on the Falcons’ practice squad and has not played in a game this season.

Former Titans WR Cameron Batson signing with Falcons

Another former Titans player has found a new home with the Falcons.

Another former Tennessee Titans player has reportedly found a new home with the Atlanta Falcons.

Former Titans wide receiver Cameron Batson is signing with the Falcons, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, and as confirmed by Batson’s agent, Cameron Weiss. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Batson is the fifth former Titans to sign in Atlanta this offseason, joining quarterback Marcus Mariota, linebacker Rashaan Evans, running back Jeremy McNichols and tight end Anthony Firkser.

Of course, those players will be suiting up for head coach Arthur Smith and defensive coordinator Dean Pees, both of whom are former Titans coordinators who were hired by Atlanta in 2021.

A former undrafted free agent signing of the Titans in 2018, the Texas Tech product has appeared in 27 games during his career, tallying 22 receptions for 197 yards and two touchdowns. He also has return experience.

In 2021, Batson played in just four games before suffering a season-ending torn ACL. He also missed the entire 2019 season due to injury.

Falcons to sign former Titans WR Cameron Batson

The Falcons have signed former Titans WR/kick returner Cameron Batson, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Atlanta Falcons have added another former Tennessee Titans player, signing wide receiver Cameron Batson on Wednesday, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The 26-year-old suffered an ACL injury back in October, prematurely ending his 2021 campaign.

Batson gives the team more depth at slot receiver and in the kick/punt return game. The former Titan reunites with Falcons head coach Arthur Smith, continuing a trend of Atlanta poaching players from Tennessee and Chicago.

For his career, Batson has 22 catches for 197 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He has averaged 19.4 yards per kick return since 2018, while adding seven carries for 36 rushing yards.

Titans place Farley, Batson on IR, waive Townsend among 4 moves

The move to waive Johnny Townsend likely means Brett Kern is nearing his return.

The Tennessee Titans made four roster moves on Tuesday, including placing both wide receiver Cameron Batson and cornerback Caleb Farley on Injured Reserve.

In addition, the team has activated safety and 2021 sixth-round pick Brady Breeze from the list, while also waiving punter Johnny Townsend.

Early Tuesday morning, it was reported that Batson and Farley had suffered torn ACLs, ending their respective seasons. The injury to Farley is particularly rough, as it leaves Tennessee even thinner at corner.

The move to waive Townsend likely means that punter Brett Kern is nearing his return. Kern had missed two games with a groin injury, and was out for Week 6 after being placed on the COVID-19 list.

The activation of Breeze gives the Titans a much-needed body in the secondary, although it doesn’t help with their depleted cornerbacks room.

On Tuesday, head coach Mike Vrabel said he expects the team will look at cornerbacks Chris Jones and Briean Boddy-Calhoun, both of whom are on the practice squad. However, the team should also be looking at the trade market ahead of the deadline, which comes on Nov. 2.

Report: Titans’ Caleb Farley, Cam Batson out for season with torn ACLs

The Titans have reportedly lost Caleb Farley and Cameron Batson for the season.

The Tennessee Titans suffered a slew of injuries during the Week 6 win over the Buffalo Bills on “Monday Night Football,” including two that are reportedly season-ending.

According to Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky, Titans cornerback Caleb Farley and wide receiver Cameron Batson both suffered torn ACLs that will end their respective 2021 campaigns.

Farley sustained his injury during the second quarter and was eventually carted off the sideline while looking visibly upset. Batson’s injury was of the non-contact variety and came near the end of the first half during a return.

The Titans’ 2021 first-round pick, Farley’s injury came on a night when he was making his first career start after fellow cornerback Kristian Fulton was placed on Injured Reserve earlier in the day.

This is Farley’s second torn ACL, as he also suffered one in college. At this time it isn’t clear if it’s to the same knee.

Whatever the case may be, this is an unfortunate end to both players’ seasons and the Titans are left with even more questions at both positions.

What Titans said after preseason Week 3 loss to Bears

The Titans react to their preseason finale loss to the Bears.

The Tennessee Titans closed out their preseason on Saturday night against the Chicago Bears at Nissan Stadium but fell just short of a perfect exhibition record after falling to their opponent, 27-24.

The Titans deployed the vast majority of their starters on defense in the first two drives, but only a few key starters on offense saw the field for what was the final tune-up ahead of the 2021 campaign.

This game was more about getting a look at some of the younger players, who were either vying for a role or a roster spot ahead of final cuts on Tuesday, Aug. 31.

While some players helped their cause, like quarterback Logan Woodside and running backs Mekhi Sargent and Brian Hill, others like quarterback Matt Barkley and wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick hurt theirs.

After the game, several players and coaches took to the podium to share their reaction to the final preseason contest. Here’s what they had to say:

What Mike Vrabel, Titans said after Preseason Week 1 victory

A look at what the Titans are saying after their Preseason Week 1 win over the Falcons.

The Tennessee Titans notched an impressive Preseason Week 1 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night, 23-3, with the team’s defense stealing the show.

It was a great night for the defense overall, which didn’t allow the Falcons to cross the 50-yard line in the first half. Outside linebacker Rashad Weaver stood out above the rest, earning our Player of the Game honors.

On offense, things weren’t as great. The Titans saw solid performances from their quarterbacks, Logan Woodside and Matt Barkley, and a few receivers shined, but the pass protection from the team’s projected reserves was bad.

Tennessee’s kickers had a good night, which will ease fears for now. Tucker McCann nailed all three of his attempts, but one of them (47 yards) was called back following a late hit on him that knocked him out of the game early.

The ones that counted for McCann were from 26 and 42 yards. Sam Ficken was also perfect on the evening, making both of his extra point attempts and his lone field goal try from 44 yards.

After the events of Friday night, the Titans had a lot to talk about. Here’s what head coach Mike Vrabel and select players said about the contest.

Watch: Logan Woodside hits Cameron Batson for Titans’ first preseason TD

Woodside made a great back-shoulder throw to find Batson for the touchdown.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Logan Woodside hit wide receiver Cameron Batson for the team’s first touchdown of the preseason against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night.

The score occurred in the second quarter after the Titans were setup at the 15-yard line following a David Long interception.

Woodside proceeded to fire a great back-shoulder throw to Batson in the front corner of the end zone, which he promptly hauled in for the score, giving the Titans a 10-0 lead.

Tennessee scored its first points of the contest after wide receiver Chester Rogers took a punt return 57 yards, setting up a Tucker McCann 26-yard field goal.

Woodside has been solid overall thus far. He did throw behind his receiver on two plays, but both were catchable balls, and one was hauled in. After throwing the touchdown, Woodside was 4-of-5 for 41 yards.

Woodside is currently competing for the Titans’ backup quarterback job with Matt Barkley, while Batson is vying for one of the final spots on the depth chart at wide receiver.

Titans add two more to punt return competition in training camp

Five players in total are competing for punt return duties in Titans training camp.

After a recent practice, Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel revealed that wide receivers Cameron Batson, Mason Kinsey and Chester Rogers were all competing for the punt return job ahead of the 2021 campaign.

However, during practice on Saturday the team appeared to add two more to the competition, as running backs Brian Hill and Darrynton Evans both did punt return work during practice, per ESPN’s Turron Davenport.

Davenport also noted that wide receiver Josh Reynolds was fielding punts during minicamp, but he appears to be dealing with an injury after leaving practice early on Thursday and not participating on Friday or Saturday.

Evans, who figures to serve as the team’s kick returner in 2021, and Hill have never fielded punts during their college or pro careers. The former was Tennessee’s main kick returner in 2020 when healthy.

Out of the five participants in this competition, Rogers remains the most experienced after returning 60 punts over his four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.

Kinsey assumed the role in college, and Batson has three punt returns in his NFL career, all of which came for the Titans in 2018.

This situation clearly remains fluid, but it’s one that could lead to the Titans carrying a seventh receiver thanks to wide receiver Marcus Johnson consistently standing out. Johnson is not trying out for punt return so far.

The Titans WRs fielding punts during training camp thus far

The jury is still out on who will return punts for the Titans in 2021.

While the Tennessee Titans appear to have the kick returner role figured out with running back Darrynton Evans, who fielded nine kickoffs in 2020, the jury is still out on who will return punts.

Last season, only wide receiver Kalif Raymond returned punts, fielding 23 over the course of the campaign. Raymond is now a member of the Detroit Lions, though.

Among their viable options, the Titans don’t have a lot of experience in that area. Evans himself has never returned a punt, either in college or the pros.

Wide receivers Chester Rogers, Cameron Batson and Mason Kinsey, all of whom saw looks at punt returner in practice on Thursday, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online, are among the most experienced on the roster.

“Cameron Batson, Chester Rogers and (Mason) Kinsey all fielded punts during a special teams period,” Wyatt wrote.

Batson returned three punts for the Titans in 2018, but has more experience as a kick returner after fielding 11 kickoffs in 2020. Kinsey, a 2020 UDFA, was a punt returner at Berry College, and Rogers tallied 60 returns over the course of four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts (9.2 yards per return).

Tennessee currently has an interesting situation at wide receiver. The Titans have at least four spots at the position locked-in (Julio Jones, A.J. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Dez Fitzpatrick), and quite possibly five with Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, a special teams ace last season.

The Titans carried six receivers on their initial 53-man roster last year, but with their need for a punt returner, and with wide receiver Marcus Johnson continuing to impress but not having any experience returning punts, it’s possible we could see the team carry a seventh.

Kinsey in particular has been an under-the-radar player to watch at training camp thus far, so he’s someone to keep an eye on. Rogers’ overall experience and punt-return prowess also gives him a shot to make the cut.

For various reasons, the wide receiver position and punt return battle will situations to monitor as training camp progresses.
