New nickname for the Bengals rookie already?

Nebraska cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt was seen as an exciting prospect with plenty of upside. After being selected in the second round of the draft last week by the Cincinnati Bengals, Taylor-Britt joins a Bengals secondary that is very versatile and full of intrigue, including first-round pick Daxton Hill.

You can also add one more title to the former Cornhusker: Energizer Bunny, courtesy of Bengals WR and former Nebraska teammate of Taylor-Britt, Stanley Morgan Jr.

“I called him ‘The Energizer Bunny,'” Morgan said, via Bengals.com. “He’s a hard worker. He’s always been that way … We’ll get an energetic humble beast.”

“He’s not afraid to fail,” added Morgan. “He’s not afraid to throw himself around. And just giving his all for the team. I love that about him.”

Morgan helped mentor Taylor-Britt while they both were at Nebraska. And just as a friendly reminder, Nebraska is also the alma mater of head coach Zac Taylor.

“He helped me in so many ways that he probably didn’t even know how much,” says  Taylor-Britt. “Just carrying himself the way he did. I watched every step of it while I was a freshman and that’s when I really needed it.

“They say real recognizes real and he took on that role. I was 14 hours from home. He was that big brother to me. So I was hanging out with guys like him, (cornerback) Lamar Jackson and everybody else when I was a freshman just trying to get a teammate bond with those guys … Man, he really took me under his wing.”

It’s almost inevitable that these two meet in drills in some capacity during training camp. But the connection these two share is a special one and one that should be fun to watch continue to grow in Cincinnati.

After the Cincinnati Bengals made Cam Taylor-Britt in the pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft, even trading up to get him, much of what the coaches talked about was how well he fit the culture they’re building.

He proved it pretty quickly, too.

Speaking with reporters after hearing his name called at the NFL draft, Taylor Britt made it clear he’s already got sights on one thing — covering Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in practices.

“That’s the first thing that I thought about. I can’t wait,” Taylor-Britt said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Like Coach said, I bring the juice at practice and it’s just like the game. Going against receivers like that will help my game so much to where guarding other receivers won’t be as hard. I can’t wait to get out to practice and actually practice one-on-one against those guys.”

The Bengals are counting on him to do more than just boost the locker room, of course. On paper, he’s going to get a chance to rotate in with Eli Apple on the boundary right away.

And if he’s bringing more competition to each practice, even for guys like Chase and Higgins? Everyone will be better for it.

Twitter reacts to the Bengals selection of Cam Taylor-Britt

Bengals fans and the entire NFL family had big reactions to the team’s pick in the second round.

The Cincinnati Bengals picking Nebraska cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft had a little bit of everything.

There was trade drama in the form of the team moving up slightly to make sure they got him. There was the fact most fans probably weren’t expecting the team to go with another secondary player so soon.

There’s also the fact they simply got a pretty good player added to a Super Bowl defense.

The haul and the drama surrounding it created plenty of interesting reactions on social media, so let’s collect those below, both from analysts and fans.

NFL Draft: Cam Taylor-Britt taken 60th overall

A Husker is taken in the second round and is headed to the defending AFC Champions!!

A second Husker has now been taken in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Cincinnati Bengals have taken cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt with the 60th pick overall. The AFC Champions are fortifying their secondary in this draft as they took Michigan safety Daxton Hill with their selection in the first round. They needed to strengthen that part of their defense as the Bengals ranked 26th in pass defense, giving up an average of 248.4 yards per game.

Cam Taylor-Britt hails from Montgomery, Alabama. At the NFL combine, he stood at 5’11” tall and weighed 196 pounds. In 42 games at Nebraska, he had 96 career tackles, 2.5 sacks, 6 interceptions, and 27 passes defended. He was a second-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and the media for the 2021 season. The Huskers had not had two players selected this high since the 2015 draft when Ammer Abdullah and Randy Gregory were taken in the second round with the 54th and 60th pick.

Instant analysis of Bengals picking Cam Taylor-Britt in the second round

Instant analysis of the move for the Bengals in Round 2 of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Cincinnati Bengals dipped into the secondary again in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft, selecting Nebraska cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt.

That undersells it a little bit, of course — the team traded up a handful of spots, sacrificing No. 63 and No. 209 in the process to go and get their guy.

But hey, the aggressiveness from the front office can be a good thing, and in this case, it appears it was. There was a big run on the cornerback position in the second round, so the Bengals went and got a guy they really liked after he visited.

Not only that, he’s got Bengals pick written all over him. He was a captain. He can play multiple spots. His production is great. His athleticism, including a 4.38 40-yard dash, screams pro upside.

Interestingly, Bleacher Report‘s scouting report called Taylor-Britt a “weapon” in the best way:

“As an aggressive run defender, Taylor-Britt constantly has his eyes in the backfield. This leads to him being open to play action, as well as getting burned looking for the big play. Ultimately, Taylor-Britt is a unique player who can find a role as a weapon for a defensive coordinator in the NFL. If he can play more consistently in the pass game while continuing to be disruptive in the run, he might be a steal in this draft.”

His production profile is also outstanding:

One could argue there might have been better value on the board at another position of need. But it’s hard to blame the Bengals for going after elite athletes and proven leaders while they try to combat an AFC with Patrick Mahomes and others.

Taylor-Britt offers immediate production as a rotational player and with so many contracts coming due soon, plenty of upside as an every-down starter. All it cost was an extra late pick to move up, too.

Denver Broncos mock draft for Day 2 of the NFL draft

Extra, extra, read all about it. Here’s who Draft Wire has the Broncos drafting on Day 2 of the NFL draft.

Denver Broncos general manager George Paton and the team are set to be on the clock on Day 2 of the NFL draft with one second- and two third-round picks.

Here’s who the Broncos are selecting in Draft Wire’s updated mock draft. Accounting for Thursday’s night first round, the Broncos’ three picks are a linebacker, a tackle for the offensive line and a cornerback.

In their mock draft before Day 1 of the draft, these are the same positions Draft Wire pegs Paton to target in the second and third rounds. But now with the first round in the books, and players falling, some of the players are different.

Yes, the updated mock still connects Georgia product LB Channing Tindall to the Broncos at No. 64 overall. But instead of Minnesota’s OT Daniel Faalele at No. 75 overall, the team selects Ohio State’s OT Nicholas Petit-Frere. And Nebraska’s CB Cam Taylor-Britt at No. 96 overall.

We’ll find out Friday night if Draft Wire’s mock draft behooves Paton to select any of the three suggested players. Check out the full Day 2 mock on Draft Wire.

Pair of Huskers expected to be drafted on Day 2

A couple of Cornhuskers should expect to learn about their professional future tonight.

A pair of Cornhuskers should expect to hear their names called on Day 2 of tonight’s NFL Draft. Center Cam Jurgens and cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt are projected to be taken in the second or third round by NFL scouts and draft gurus. Jurgens will more than likely be the first Nebraska player off the board. At the combine, he came in at 6’3″ tall and weighed 303 pounds. The Beatrice, Nebraska native, started every game at center in 2021 and was selected third-team All-Big Ten by the conference’s coaches. According to ESPN’s draft analysis of the best available players, Jurgens was listed as the best center available, and the 31st ranked player overall.

Taylor-Britt was a second-team All-Big Ten selection by both the coaches and the media in 2021. The ESPN draft trackers listed him as the fourth-best cornerback available and the 40th-best remaining player overall.

No one knows exactly what will happen tonight, but for these two proud Cornhuskers, it should be an evening they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.

Rams 7-round mock draft: Final edition

With the draft coming up in just 2 days, here’s our final mock draft for the Rams, going all 7 rounds to project what Les Snead will do

It’s officially the week of the 2022 NFL draft (*proceeds to rub hands together*) and it’s always exciting to see where certain prospects land as they hope to live out their dream of playing in the NFL. Los Angeles Rams fans will have to wait a while until their team makes a selection, with their first pick not coming until No. 104 in the third round.

With it being days before the draft begins, I’ll be conducting my final mock draft for the Rams. Los Angeles currently owns eight total picks, though we all know that Les Snead loves to make trades during the draft to either move up or compile more draft capital.

Amidst all of the chaos and uncertainty before the draft, here is my final seven-round mock draft for the Rams. Just note that this is how I envision Los Angeles drafting and does not entirely reflect what I would do with each pick.

Rams 2022 Draft Prospect Profile: Cam Taylor-Britt (CB, Nebraska)

Cornerback is a glaring need for the Rams and Cam Taylor-Britt out of Nebraska could be an option in the 3rd round of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Los Angeles Rams have had a fantastic cornerback duo in recent years with Jalen Ramsey and Darious Williams. But with Williams departing in free agency, signing a multi-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Rams could consider adding a cornerback via the 2022 NFL draft.

Behind Ramsey, the current cornerback depth chart includes Robert Rochell, David Long Jr., Grant Haley, and Tyler Hall. Due to the current state of the position, the Rams were rumored to be in the market for Stephon Gilmore, who has since signed with the Indianapolis Colts.

While the Rams could still consider bringing in a veteran defensive back (Tyrann Mathieu maybe?) after missing out on Gilmore, they’ll likely use one of their eight draft picks on a cornerback in this year’s draft. One name that has been mentioned quite a bit with the Rams ahead of the upcoming draft is Cam Taylor-Britt out of Nebraska.
