Zac Taylor comments on Joe Burrow’s injury comeback timeline

Another injury update on Joe Burrow.

The latest update on Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow sounds quite a bit like the last one.

And that’s a good thing.

Speaking with reporters at the NFL’s annual meetings this week, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor gave a similar, positive update on Burrow’s recovery from the season-ending wrist injury.

“It’s positive,” Taylor said, according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson (h/t Ben Baby). “It’s right on schedule, and so we’re encouraged with everything we thought it was going to be and where he’s going to fit into our offseason.”

That’s in line with everything members of the organization and Burrow himself have said publicly over the last few months.

Burrow had recently suggested that his target to get back throwing is mid-May, which would mean right around the team’s organized activities.

Interestingly, Burrow also revealed that he’s considering changes to his offseason working training regiment in response to recent injuries.

Barring something unexpected, the next major Burrow update should be around the time of the draft when coaches and team personnel get in front of microphones again. Then, May, Burrow’s expected date to ramp up.

Bengals QB Joe Burrow mulling offseason training changes after last year’s injuries

Bengals QB Joe Burrow is taking the smart approach in the hopes of preventing further injuries.

Approaching spring workouts after another offseason of rehab, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow sounds like a guy considering all options when it comes to his training.

Burrow, who expects to be cleared soon, noted during a recent event that he’s mulling training and approach changes to prevent further issues.

“I’m still kind of deciphering that in my mind, thinking about how I can mitigate that going into this year,” Burrow said, according to ESPN’s Ben Baby. “Whether it’s gaining weight, changing my training, changing my lead-up to training camp that month before, we’re still working through all that and seeing where I want to be.”

It’s a question fans have asked all season and rightfully so after Burrow’s injury-derailed campaign started last summer with a non-contact calf injury.

While hindsight also says the Bengals probably should have forced Burrow to sit for the first few games of the season, that calf didn’t fully heal until the middle of the season (they beat the 49ers and Bills in back-to-back weeks around this time) and then the unlucky wrist injury ended his year.

It’s only natural for a pro athlete to see that non-contact injury and the following issues (one might’ve played into the other with a change in throwing force to compensate for the calf, but we’ll probably never know) and reevaluate where things can proactively change.

Still, it sure doesn’t hurt for fans to hear the re-evaluation is on the table to prevent further issues.

Bengals QB Joe Burrow hints at expected injury return plans

An update from Joe Burrow himself.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has sights on a May return.

According to ESPN’s Ben Baby, Burrow’s rehab has started to include throwing smaller medicine balls ahead of full clearance.

“I think middle of May is when I am expecting to kind of be cleared for full contact and everything,” Burrow said. “Over the next month [to] month and a half, we’ll kind of decide all those things.”

Burrow returning to throwing around that date would put it right around the team’s organized team activities. On paper, that would be pretty similar to when a normal season ramp-up starts for him, too.

After surgery last Decemeber to address the torn wrist ligament in his throwing hand, Burrow followed up with a rough outline for his return that remains accurate and on track. He was also recently spotted briefly in an offseason workout video.

Given the comments, May continues to be when fans should expect some serious Burrow news.

Ja’Marr Chase says injured shoulder won’t require surgery

Ja’Marr Chase talks about the possibility of surgery.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase provided some important details about his shoulder injury before the Week 18 game against the Cleveland Browns.

The star wideout revealed that his injured AC joint will not require surgery.

Meaning, Chase expects time off to heal and strengthen the area to get him at 100 percent by next season, per Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.

Chase spoke on a wide range of topics mid-week, such as the possibility of a contract extension for Tee Higgins and how he feels about his own contract situation — he’s eligible for an extension for the first time this summer.

But the small nugget about Chase avoiding surgery is arguably the biggest point of all from all the chatter. Were he headed for offseason surgery after playing through the injury in the finale, it would make his full return timetable tough to gauge.

As it stands now, Chase will play against the Browns, then step back and get right for next season.

Tee Higgins headlines final injury report of the season for Bengals

The final injury report of the season has arrived for the Bengals.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon was one of the biggest names on the injury report before the team’s season finale against the Cleveland Browns.

But it’s Tee Higgins, not Mixon, who headlines the actual final injury report.

Here’s the full list the Bengals issued on Friday:

  • WR Tee Higgins (Doubtful)
  • CB Chidobe Awuzie (Questionable)
  • CB Jalen Davis (Questionable)

Mixon initially joined the list on the second edition due to illness.

Onlookers will notice that star wideout Ja’Marr Chase isn’t on the list. He got upgraded to a full practice on Thursday, with him revealing in interviews that he’ll play through the injury.

Of note, Chase also talked about a possible extension for Tee Higgins and whether or not the injured shoulder will require surgery.

As for Higgins, he’s slated for free agency this summer, so there’s a slim chance he’s played his last snap with the Bengals, barring a surprising turnaround this weekend.

Joe Mixon added to Browns vs. Bengals injury report for Week 18

A new face on the Week 18 Browns vs. Bengals injury report.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon joined the injury report ahead of the season finale against the Cleveland Browns.

Citing an illness, Mixon joined wideout Tee Higgins as the only DNP statuses:

  • RB Joe Mixon (DNP)
  • WR Tee Higgins (DNP)
  • WR Ja’Marr Chase (FP)
  • QB Jake Browning (FP)
  • CB Chidobe Awuzie (LP)
  • CB Jalen Davis (LP)

Of note, Ja’Marr Chase got upgraded to a full practice on Thursday, which coincided with him telling reporters that he’ll play no matter what.

Quarterback Jake Browning is a new arrival to the injury report with a foot issue, too, though he went in full.

With Higgins missing another day, it’s safe to think he’ll miss the finale, barring a massive turnaround on Friday.

Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins top first Browns vs. Bengals injury report

Two major names on the injury report for the Bengals before they play the Browns.

The first edition of the injury report for the Cincinnati Bengals before Week 18 against the Cleveland Browns is one of the cleaner sheets of the season.

As expected, two big names top the list:

  • WR Tee Higgins (DNP)
  • WR Ja’Marr Chase (LP)
  • CB Chidobe Awuzie (LP)
  • CB Jalen Davis (LP)

Before the injury report went live, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor noted that Ja’Marr Chase is farther along in his injury recovery than fellow wideout Tee Higgins.

From the sounds of Taylor’s previous comments about winning no matter what against the Browns, it seems like fans will see at least one of the star wideouts on the field to close the season.

Bengals WR Tee Higgins suffers hamstring injury vs. Chiefs

Bengals WR Tee Higgins suffers an injury.

The injury-riddled season for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins continued on Sunday during the game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

There, Higgins left in the first half with what the team called a hamstring injury and was declared questionable.

Higgins has had multiple different injuries derail his contract year to date, with Sunday merely his 12th game of the year.

The Bengals entered this one with Ja’Marr Chase playing through a shoulder injury of his own and as a game-time decision, so the wideout corps. will again lean on rookies like Andrei Iosivas and veterans such as Trenton Irwin with Higgins out.

Update: Higgins returned to the game in the second half.

Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase expected to play vs. Chiefs

An update on Ja’Marr Chase as the Bengals get ready to play the Chiefs.

All signs have pointed to Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase playing against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Now we have another report backing that up, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Network citing a source who says Chase is expected to go.

No great shock there, given Chase’s talk about playing through an injury for his team — and his bulletin-board material after ripping the Chiefs defense.

Whether Chase is near or at 100 percent or more of a high-profile decoy that opens up the field for the likes of Tee Higgins is impossible to say before kickoff, but the Jake Browning-led offense is certainly better with him on the field.

The Bengals need the help, too, given how much this game means to their slim playoff hopes.

Ja’Marr Chase a DNP on first Bengals vs. Chiefs injury report

Ja’Marr Chase headlined the first Bengals vs. Chiefs injury report.

The Cincinnati Bengals have remained mum on the status of star wideout Ja’Marr Chase to start Week 17, continuing the trend that held strong over the holiday.

While onlookers saw Chase at practice on Wednesday doing some rehab work, he officially was a DNP on the first injury report of the week before the team takes on the Kansas City Chiefs:

  • WR Ja’Marr Chase (DNP)
  • CB Jalen Davis (Limited)
  • DE Cam Sample (Limited)
  • CB Cam-Taylor Britt (FP)

The Bengals have largely said Chase is a day-to-day situation, so gradually upgrading over the next two injury reports would indicate he could play against the Chiefs.

And on the CTB front, the te[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”dW5kZWZpbmVk”][/anyclip-media]am just designated him to return from injured reserve, so the full participation suggests he’ll be on the field in Kansas City over the weekend.
