Ohio State football recruiting class of 2023 high school performance tracker

Ohio State football recruiting class of 2023 high school performance tracker #GoBucks

As we eagerly await the kickoff of the contest between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Iowa Hawkeyes, we can pass the time by monitoring some of the top high school prospects that have committed to the Buckeyes in the class of 2023. As it stands, Ohio State currently has the fourth-ranked class in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but the hope is they will rise up these rankings.

This class appears to be offense-heavy with a few stud receivers and some intriguing offensive linemen, but the Buckeyes need to add some more defensive help. I wanted to provide a brief recap of some of the top recruits in the Ohio State class and how they have performed so far during their high school season.

Ohio State flips Texas Tech commit to add another four-star cornerback

Boom! Ohio State flips Texas Tech commit Calvin Simpson-Hunt. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team added yet another four-star prospect to its 2023 class. This time, the Buckeyes were able to flip cornerback Calvin Simpson-Hunt who had been committed to Texas Tech since November of 2021.

Simpson-Hunt is the No. 22 ranked corner in the current recruiting cycle and the No. 173 overall according to 247Sports composite rankings. The highly rated defensive back decommitted from the Red Raiders on June 24 and it didn’t take him long to find a new home in Columbus.

Adding Simpson-Hunt puts Ohio State back in the top spot in the recruiting rankings. Notre Dame had passed the Buckeyes, but OSU edged ahead once again with Simpson-Hunt’s commitment.

This is the third cornerback to commit to the Buckeyes 2023 class joining Dijon Johnson and Kayin Lee. Ohio State hopes to add at least one more DB in either Jermaine Mathews or Daniel Harris, both of whom plan to announce their commitment on Friday, July 1.

Longtime Big 12 commitment set to visit Notre Dame

Can Marcus Freeman and company make this flip happen?

A quick look at the team recruiting rankings for the 2023 cycle shows Notre Dame at the top followed by Texas Tech (247Sports).  Texas Tech appears so high because they’ve already received an impressive 20 commitments, however of those only five have at least a four-star rating.

One of those five four-star talents is cornerback Calvin Simpson-Hunt who committed to the Red Raiders back on November 22.  The Waxahachie, Texas native remains committed to Texas Tech but will be on campus at Notre Dame in early June.

The 6-0, 175-pound cornerback has over 20 offers, including from the likes of Ohio State, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, and Oregon among others.

Notre Dame currently has the top ranked recruiting class according to multiple outlets for 2023, but are yet to receive any commitments at cornerback.  Simpson-Hunt, who 247Sports ranks as a four-star talent and who On3 calls the 108th best overall player in the class, would go a long way in making this class more complete.
