Ohio State freshman receiver Caleb Burton loses black stripe

The newest member of zone 6, Caleb Burton! #GoBucks

Black stripe alert! Freshman receiver Caleb Burton shed his black stripe and was officially welcomed to the brotherhood on Tuesday.

Burton came to Ohio State as a four-star recruit from Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas. At one point, Burton was considered a five-star prospect and some had him as the No. 1 overall receiver in the 2022 class. An injury during the 2020 season dropped his ranking. He was the No. 21 ranked receiver in the 2022 class according to the 247Sports composite.

With such a deep receiving unit, Burton did not see any action during the 2022 regular season.

You can check out what the newest member of the Zone 6 had to say in the video posted by the official Ohio State football Twitter account below.

The Buckeyes are preparing to take on the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 31 in Atlanta.

Ohio State football recruiting class of 2022 scouting report: Caleb Burton

Ohio State football recruiting class of 2022 scouting report: Caleb Burton #GoBucks

The recruiting cycle for 2022 is in the books. The Ohio State Buckeyes had aĀ consensus top-five class in the country and are considered the No. 1 class in the Big Ten by a wide margin. The receiving 2022 receiving corps may be even more talented than last year in the long run, and adding a talent like Caleb Burton makes the future of the position even more intriguing.

It should be noted for those that are not familiar, recruiting classes are not like NFL draft classes. Many of these players will not see time as freshmen and will likely be redshirted. Itā€™s also true that in the age of the transfer portal it is likely several players from this class will not be here at the end.

I wanted to at least take a dive into some of the top studs and weā€™ll start at the top of theĀ recruiting class with wide receiver, Caleb Burton and we have already previously dived into C.J. Hicks,Ā Devin Brown,Ā Kenyatta Jackson,Ā Omari Abor,Ā Kaleb Brown,Ā Kyion Grayes,Ā Gabe Powers,Ā andĀ Tegra Tshabola.

Report: Ex-Del Valle HC Charles Burton, 5-star WR Caleb Burton to join Lake Travis

The five-star wide receiver and his father are set to join forces again at Texas powerhouse Lake Travis, according to reports.

With Charles Burton not returning as Del Valle High School’s football coach next season, five-star wide receiver Caleb Burton decided to play his senior season elsewhere.

Now, the two are joining forces once again at a Texas high school football powerhouse.

According to Thomas Jones of the Austin American-Statesman, Charles Burton is joining Lake Travis High School’s coaching staff, with his son set to transfer into the school as well. Charles Burton’s hire won’t be approved by the Lake Travis school district until later this month and he won’t begin working at the school until next school year.

Charles Burton was recently replaced at Del Valle by IMG Academy’s Bobby Acosta. The elder Burton went 29-51 in eight seasons at Del Valle and was the schoolā€™s longest-tenured head coach before resigning from the position in March. Burton made just one playoff appearance in his tenure at Del Valle and went 3-6 last season.

Caleb Burton, meanwhile, is committed to Ohio State and caught 82 passes for 1,515 yards and 18 touchdowns in his freshman and sophomore years before missing his junior year with an injury. Once he returns, he will bolster a Lake Travis team that averaged 52.6 points per game and went 6-1 last season.

Lake Travis welcomes back eight starters on defense and five on offense next season, headlined by quarterback Bo Edmundson.

Ohio State still in the hunt for top 2022 receiver from Georgia

Top 100 wide receiver 2022 prospect Kojo Antwi out of Georgia has scheduled a visit to see Ohio State coming up.

Brian Hartline and the Ohio State Buckeyes have been putting in work recruiting some of the best receiving talent in the country. Hartline has fast become known for his ability to get the top pass catchers to bring their talents to Columbus.

The Buckeyes have already received verbal commitments from the nation’s No. 1 receiver in five-star Caleb Burton and another in four-star Kiyon Graves. But the OSU wide receiver coach is hoping to add one more big name to the class.

Kojo Antwi is the No. 1 receiver out of the talent-rich state of Georgia and the No. 8 ranked wideout in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Antwi has offers from all the big boys and trimmed his list to eight in late December. Included on his list were Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Oregon, Texas A&M, South Carolina, and Southern Cal.

The highly sought-after receiver is in the process of scheduling campus visits once the NCAA ends the dead period and has scheduled a date to visit Ohio State. Antwi will head north to Columbus on the weekend of June 18-20 to check things out.

This would be yet another huge commitment if Hartline can continue to work his magic to bring another big-time receiver to the scarlet and gray. The Buckeye’s 2022 class currently sits at No. 1 in the nation.

Ohio State recruit Caleb Burton seems to be growing tired of the rumor mill

The rumors continue to swirl that Ohio State commit, WR Caleb Burton will flip back to Texas, but that doesn’t seem likely at this point.

Caleb Burton, the No. 1 receiver in the 2022 recruiting cycle decided to make his commitment to Ohio State early back in November of 2020. We’re seeing more and more recruits making that monumental decision early, well before national signing day. I’m sure there are a variety of reasons for early commitments, but one reason has to be to relieve some of the pressure of constantly answering the question of where you’ll play your college ball.

However, that doesn’t keep the rumors from floating, and Burton seems to be done with it. The five-star receiver hails from the state of Texas where the world revolves around high school football. And Ohio State has been plucking some of the Lone Star state’s best for years.

Tom Herman couldn’t secure the No. 1 overall player in the 2022 cycle, Texas high school quarterbackĀ Quinn Ewers. As a result of that, results on the field, and other recruiting snafus, Herman was let go and Steve Sarkisian was hired to lead the Longhorns. Sark led a prolific offense at Alabama and now fans in Austin are hoping to get some of that in-state talent to stay home.

Could Sark potentially flip Burton back to the Longhorns? Speculation has run rampant.

Burton for one doesn’t look to want any part of it. He’s reconfirmed his commitment to the Buckeyes several times, but some just can’t let it go. The Texas receiver went to Twitter once again, this time just to let people know they can believe what they want.

It seems Burton has made his decision and it doesn’t look like he’s budging. Believe what you want… Caleb Burton doesn’t care anymore. And that’s great news for the Buckeyes and the current No. 1 ranked class in the nation.

Ohio State commitment and No. 1 receiver in 2022 class, Caleb Burton, reaffirms his pledge to Buckeyes

The class of 2022’s top receiver, Caleb Burton, has reaffirmed his pledge to Ohio State despite the Longhorn’s hire of Steve Sarkisian.

Ohio State has already put together some pretty impressive commitments for theĀ 2022 football recruiting class despite it only being January of 2021. One of those is the country’s top wide receiver, Caleb Burton, out of Del Valle, Texas.

According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Burton is ranked as the top receiver and No. 14 overall prospect in the entire class.

He was another of Texas’ best prospects that shunned the Longhorns and committed to a program out of state. That was how things went at the end of former Texas coach Tom Herman’s tenure, but now there is a new man in charge of the program, former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.

Many believe that now that Sarkisian is the head coach in Austin, some of those prospects that got away may re-consider. When that discussion comes up, Burton’s name is one that is on the shortlist of commitments Longhorn fans believe could be flipped back to the color of burnt orange.

However, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Far from it in fact. According to Texas insider C.J. Vogel, Burton remains very much committed to Ohio State and has established a very strong relationship with Buckeye wide receivers coach Brian Hartline.

This is good news for OSU. Based on the way things went in the national championship game, you had to at least be a little worried about a Texas kid getting excited about what Sarkisian showed he could do with the future of the Texas offense.

So far so good though for the Buckeyes’ commitments that Texas might want to try and bring back home. We haven’t heard a lot from quarterback Quinn Ewers, but if we do, we’ll be on top of that.

Class of 2022’s No. 1 receiver out of Texas reiterates commitment to Ohio State

The class of 2022’s top receiver, Texas native Caleb Burton, reiterated his pledge to Ohio State after the Buckeyes’ loss to Alabama.

With Alabama’s dismantling of Ohio State in the College Football Playoff national championship game, and with Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian taking over at Texas, folks are starting to talk about the chances of a couple of Texas natives being flipped from Ohio State back over to the Longhorns.

Most notably, the two that are often mentioned include the class’ top overall prospect, quarterback Quinn Ewers, and also the class of 2022’s top receiver according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Caleb Burton. Both play their high school football in Texas, and both will no doubt be courted by Sarkisian as he tries to hit the recruiting trail hard, especially for the Texas kids that got away under Tom Herman’s watch.

We’ve heard from Ewers prior to the national championship game saying that he’s still a solid commit, but we haven’t heard anything after. Such a performance you would think could sway a kid just a wee bit right? We’ll have to see.

However, we have heard from Burton. In fact, the day after OSU got ran off the field in Miami, he took to Twitter to let everyone know that he’s still got scarlet and gray on this mind and that he’s “not going anywhere.”

This is great news, and we’ll continue to stay close to it because you know full well the first phone calls Sarkisian is going to make when it comes to recruiting is to Ewers and to Burton. Right now, I’d say they are both solidly in as Ohio State commits, but there’s a long way to go until signing day and things can change drastically.

We’re not saying that’s the case here, but two Texas kids’ listening to the home state school wouldn’t be all that surprising.

Ohio State has raided the state of Texas in the Tom Herman era

A look at each of the top recruits who left Texas for Ohio State. The elite talents who chose another program over the Longhorns.

There has been plenty documented about the Ohio State Buckeyes‘ success at recruiting in the state of Texas since the beginning of Tom Herman’s tenure in Austin. In the three years of recruiting before Herman arrived, Ohio State didn’t have a single one of the top 10 players in the Lone Star State. The downfall technically started under Strong, but Herman has failed to stop the floodgates from opening.
