Next Gen Stats: Bills’ Khalil Shakir scored near impossible TD vs. Steelers

It was essentially impossible but happened:

Khalil Shakir’s touchdown against the Steelers seemed near impossible.

Because that’s exactly what it was, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

The Bills beat the Steelers, 31-17, in the NFL’s wild-card weekend. As the Steelers inched back into the game with the score at 24-17, Shakir iced it with the final touchdown.

On the play, it appeared like Shakir was about to be tackled very quickly…and by none other than All-Pro defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick. Instead, Shakir spun off him and stayed with it, ending the gritty play in the end zone.

How unlucky was the score? Per Next Gen Stats, Shakir had less than a one percent chance to make it into the end zone… but he did:

WATCH: Bills’ Sean McDermott previews Packers on NFL Network

WATCH: #Bills’ Sean McDermott previews #Packers on NFL Network:

Bills head coach Sean McDermott joined NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” to preview his team’s upcoming Week 8 matchup with the Packers (3-4).

While the Bills (5-1) are the favorite, McDermott never allows himself or his team to overlook an opponent. At least, that’s the focus and it is again with the Packers coming to town.

In previewing, McDermott’s discussion started the way many do on the Pack: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

“Aaron is reigning NFL MVP for a reason,” McDermott said. “They’re a tough team, they’re a dangerous team. They’ve got great players on defense as well.”

See the attached YouTube video above for McDermott’s full appearance on GMFB.

J.D. McKissic reflects on spurring Bills during free agency

What JD McKissic said about that whole thing with the #Bills:

The Buffalo Bills were given the stiff arm by running back JD McKissic in free agency.

After agreeing to a two-year deal with the Bills, McKissic ended up back with his former team in the Washington Commanders.

How the story went, according to Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane, the deal was agreed and not yet signed. From there, Washington caught wind, and the Commanders matched the contract and re-signed McKissic.

McKissic has reflected on the situation from his vantage point now via ESPN.

According to the player, he just wanted to stay.

“You can’t ask for a better organization to be chosen by [in the Bills], but I had unfinished business in Washington. The way we left off, we felt we were inclining,” McKissic said. “I had things I wanted to prove in Washington. I made my decision off where I wanted to be. Buffalo is a great organization, but I feel we can do great things here as well.”

The report goes on to state that there was some kind of grey area between McKissic and the Commanders.

Reportedly the club thought they’d get any chance to match a deal McKissic was offered… even after they did not send him a deal at all.

That’s why they eventually did reach out themselves even when McKissic’s agent told the Commanders he had signed in Buffalo. Washington didn’t give up and then they re-sign him.

Regardless, Beane was not happy and expressed that. He even went on to say he now feels he has a “complicated” relationship toward the Commanders now.

McKissic eventually inked a two-year, $8.2 million deal in Washington.

Sure, Bills quarterback Josh Allen had two interceptions. One certainly was not his fault as his arm was hit by a defender.

But even with those two giveaways, Allen was excellent in his team’s latest win against the Saints on Thanksgiving, a 31-6 final.

Overall, Allen was 23-for-28 passing for 260 yards with four touchdowns. He also added another 43 yards on the ground.

It was a total effort from the QB… and you know what? It’s been awhile since Thursday’s game.

For anyone wanting to re-live Allen’s efforts in the Bills’ latest win, check out the video player above for a highlight package of his best plays.

Sounds like the Bills won’t see George Kittle, Jimmy Garoppolo vs. 49ers

Buffalo Bills will not face San Francisco 49ers’ Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle in Week 13.

The Buffalo Bills face the San Francisco 49ers in Arizona on Monday Night Football next. Despite being under the bright lights, it doesn’t sound like the visiting will be seeing some of the “home” team’s best players, though.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said this week that it’s unlikely that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and star tight end George Kittle will suit up this week. Shanahan laid a timetable of a few games from now in terms of when it’s possible that the pair could return to the lineup.

“Yeah, I’m holding out hope for Jimmy for the last couple of weeks, same with Kittle,” the coach said per Niners Wire. “I think they’re in a similar boat with that and that’s not guaranteed. It’s how they react over here the next couple of weeks, but they’re just starting to get into where they can get on the field and not with us, but on their own and do some stuff. That’s hopefully going to be the last couple of weeks, whether it’s two games or one game or none.”

Garoppolo has been dealing with a severely sprained ankle he suffered in the 49ers second game of the season. While he attempted to play through the injury, he suffered another high ankle sprain in a Week 7.

The initial timeline on a return for Garoppolo was four-to-six weeks per Shanahan. Kittle’s was reported as an eight-week recovery time. The upcoming Bills-49ers meeting would’ve been a likely quick recovery for both, which appears to be off the table.

Without Kittle, former Washington tight end Jordan Reed has seen more playing time in the Niners lineup. Backup QB Nick Mullens will continue his starting stretch against the Bills.

It is worth noting though, the 49ers are still 5-6 without these two, along with several other players they’ve lost due to injury. Buffalo (8-3) still has a task to take care of, even without them.
