Bills announce season ticket holders can skip 2020 season

Buffalo Bills season ticket update: Fans can skip 2020 for 2021.

The Buffalo Bills announced on Tuesday that season ticket holders will have the option to skip the 2020 season without any penalty due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It’s unclear if fans, of any amount, will be allowed to attend games this fall just yet.

The release from the Bills reads, in part:

All season ticket members will be given the opportunity to opt out of their season ticket commitment for this season with an option to return for the 2021 season while maintaining their account seniority and seat location. An email with opt-out information will be sent in the coming days.

The Bills have reportedly already started drawing up seating plans at New Era Field in regard to smaller seating capacities. The NFL also announced last week that team’s will be allowed to “tarp off” lower seating levels and use those to sell advertisements, if they so choose. With this recent Bills season ticket news, that option seems likely to be flexed by the team.

Room on bandwagon: Patriots seeing decrease in ticket demand

Report on ticket demand from TicketIQ and The Athletic, featuring the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots

The 2020 NFL schedule came out and it injected life into Bills fans. Could this be the first time since 1995 that Buffalo takes home the AFC East title?

While fans in western New York will think so, it appears the ones out in New England are thinking the same thing.

The Patriots lost their beloved quarterback in Tom Brady this offseason. Their former tight end Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement and followed him to the Buccaneers, too.

Evidently, the bandwagon in New England is emptying out now. A report in The Athletic recently took a look at NFL ticketing with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Patriots are one of only four teams that have seen a decline in ticket pricing in the secondary market.

The Athletic reports:

“Average prices on the secondary market for NFL games since the schedule release Thursday night are $391, which is up 51 percent from 2019, with only four teams down; the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers and Chicago Bears, according to TicketIQ. The 51 percent rise is by far the largest year over year increase TicketIQ has tracked.”

In addition, Patriots tickets are reportedly valued 39 percent less than last season. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay has seen a 135 percent uptick in ticket value. In regard to the Bills, TicketIQ reports that the average ticket price for the Bills on the secondary market has increased from $147 in 2019 to $179 this offseason.

Bills increase ticket pricing in 2020

Buffalo Bills tickets, parking prices increase.

The Buffalo Bills are known for having ticket pricing on the cheaper side, but it’s set to go up.

According to the Buffalo News, the Bills will increase ticket prices by about $4 dollars per game for season ticket holders next year. The weighted ticket price average goes from $89.56 to $93.67, per the report.

Prices vary throughout seating locations.

But even with the increase, the Bills’ ticketing prices are still among the lowest in the NFL. According to the report, only the Bengals had cheaper season ticket prices last season. From 2018 to 2019, the Bills increased their ticket pricing $1.85 per seat a game.

In addition, parking pass pricing is also increasing. Cash lots spike from $200 to $220, while premium lots jump from $250 to $300 for a season pass. The camper lot’s season pass increases from $700 to $750.

The Bills are coming off a 10-6 season and second playoff berth in three seasons. Buffalo also has the looming stadium issue coming into focus and unfortunately, ever-increasing costs of operation and building a new fortress isn’t free.
