Prediction

Bucks 121, Nets 107

Moneyline (ML)

The Bucks (-400) are overwhelming favorites against the Nets (+300), who have been reeling lately. Still, you can’t risk four times your return on investment. AVOID. There just isn’t enough value in tossing lettuce behind Milwaukee with a $10 bet returning a profit of only $2.50 with an outright win.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The BUCKS (-9.5, +105) are worth a look, especially at plus-money. They’re 7-3 ATS in the past 10 games on the road, and 13-4 ATS in the previous 17 against teams with a winning overall record. The Nets (+9.5, -129) are 2-9 ATS in the past 11 games overall, and 1-6 ATS in the past seven as an underdog.

Milwaukee has dominated the series in head-to-head matchups, too, going 26-9-1 ATS in the past 26 meetings, including 15-5-1 ATS in the past 21 trips to the borough.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 231.5 (-115) is the lean in this one. However, a line in the 230’s is just too high. It might very well happen, but that’s just not worth the headache of sweating it. The over is 4-1 in the past five meetings, and 8-3 in the past 11 in Brooklyn. I’d go really, really light on the under, or AVOID altogether.

Prediction

Bucks 115, Celtics 101

Moneyline (ML)

The Bucks have been steamrolling teams recently (and all season really); they are 9-1 in their last 10, including three straight wins of 20-plus points. Milwaukee might have revenge on its mind because the Celtics overcame a 19-point first half deficit to beat the Bucks, 116-105, in their first meeting on Oct. 30. The Bucks had won three of the previous four meetings and covered the spread all four times.

It’s hard to find a bad trend/stat for the 2019-20 Milwaukee Bucks, or even a bad game, so I expect Giannis Antetokounmpo and company to even up the season series with the Celtics. PASS on both moneylines though because the Celtics aren’t winning and the Bucks -500 is a terrible price.

New to sports betting? You would have to bet $500 on the Bucks just to win $100 … and then pray an upset doesn’t happen.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Again, tossing out the first meeting of the season, the Bucks covered the previous four games against the Celtics. Boston is only 3-5-1 when having a rest disadvantage versus their opponent. Also, the Bucks are 9-3 ATS when laying 7.5-9.5. For sure, monitor the injury report for this one (I’d even recommend taking the number now before it goes up); Tatum missed Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Pistons and Brown sprained his thumb in that game. If both those players are out, the brunt of the defensive responsibility will fall on Marcus Smart and the Bucks’ top-ranked scoring offense should have a much easier time.

Plus the juiced up line is what LEANS me to BUCKS -9.5 (-115) in this game. Before writing this I was thinking the Celtics +9.5 was too many points to pass up but seeing the Celtics-Bucks recent history and BetMGM making the Bucks -9.5 more expensive, I think it’s best to go with the house in this game.

Over/Under (O/U)

TAKE UNDER 223.5 (+105) because the trends say so. The Under is 5-2 in the last seven Celtics-Bucks games, including three straight Unders, plus the Under is 8-2 in Celtics last 10 games playing on 0 days’ rest. The combined Celtics-Bucks over/under record is 38-42-1. And while both teams excel offensively, they each also ranked in top-4 in defensive rating with the Celtics being fourth and Bucks being first, respectively.

New York Knicks at Milwaukee Bucks odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s New York Knicks at Milwaukee Bucks sports betting odds and lines, with NBA betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Knicks (11-29) visit the Milwaukee Bucks (35-6) Tuesday at Fiserv Forum for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off. We analyze the Knicks-Bucks odds and lines, with NBA betting advice and tips around the matchup.

The Knicks snapped a five-game skid with a 124-121 home victory vs. the Miami Heat Sunday.

The Bucks are on a three-game winning streak, recently topping the Portland Trail Blazers 122-101 Saturday to wrap up a 3-1 road trip.

Knicks at Bucks: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 12:20 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Bucks 119, Knicks 101

Moneyline (ML)

AVOID. With the Bucks such a big point-spread favorite, their -2500 odds on the moneyline are way too chalky. It’s not smart to risk that kind of bet where it will take a $25 wager just to profit $1 if they win. The Knicks (+1100) are tempting with an 11-to-1 profitable payout, but with the Bucks 18-2 at home and owning the best overall record in the league, I’ll PASS.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The BUCKS (-16.5, -115) are the STRONGEST PLAY – as much as I hate laying this many points. The only time New York was a 15-point dog or larger this season was a 132-88 loss at Milwaukee Dec. 2. The Bucks, who will be more rested, won the other head-to-head battle between the two by 21 points (123-102) as a 12-point favorite at Madison Square Garden Dec. 21.

New to sports betting? Every $1.15 wagered on the Bucks’ spread will profit $1 if they win by 17 or more points.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 225.5 (+105) is worth a small wager. While the Bucks are tied for the league lead with 119.2 points per game, the number is a little high – the previous two MIL-NY matchups played to the Under. Plus, the Knicks rank 27th with 104.9 PPG. On the defensive end, the Bucks allow 106.9 PPG (ranking ninth) and the Knicks allow 112.8 (19th). Even with SF Kevin Knox scoring off the bench – 17 points last game – I don’t see the Knicks tallying enough points to push this Over.

Prediction

Bucks 126, Spurs 111

Moneyline (ML)

The Bucks (-334) will cost you over three times your investment, which is twice as much as I am comfortable laying. My limit is always -160 to -170 at the most. AVOID.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The BUCKS (-6.5, -121) are a tremendous bet on Monday night, assuming the visitors do not elect to rest Antetokounmpo, which is always possible. If he plays, this is a slam-dunk play, literally.

The Bucks are 5-1 ATS in the past six road games, and 13-5 ATS in the previous 18 games overall. They’re also 13-5 ATS in the past 18 games as a favorite, too, while going 5-1 ATS in the past six as a road favorite. The Spurs, on the other hand, are a dismal 7-20 ATS in the past 27 games at home, and 1-5 ATS in the past six tries at home against teams with a winning road mark.

Over/Under (O/U)

A few years ago an OVER 227.5 (-129) total would have been unheard of, but defense is dead in the NBA. It’s all offense, all the time. The Bucks are better at offense than anyone, too, averaging 119.6 points per game while also leading the NBA with a 48.3 field-goal percentage. Conversely, the Spurs are seventh in the NBA in points scored (113.2), and 25th in points allowed (115.1).

Prediction

Bucks 118, Spurs 102

Moneyline (ML)

The Bucks (-910) are heavy favorites against the flailing Spurs (+600), but avoid laying this kind of bread for such a small return.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Mavericks to win outright returns a profit of $1.10.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The BUCKS (-12.5, -115) are a slam-dunk play despite the fact the Spurs (+12.5, -106) are 3-0-1 ATS in the past four road games. While that’s impressive, the Bucks are 13-4 ATS in the past 17 games overall, and 6-2 ATS in the past eight at home against teams with a losing road record.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 226.5 (-129) is the play in this one. In the past five meetings the Over has hit four times, including four of the past five in Cream City. The Over is 5-2 in San Antonio’s past seven overall, too.

While the Under has been the play for the Bucks lately, hitting in six of the past eight games overall, including 4-0 at home, they’re well rested. In the past 10 when working on two or more days of rest, the Over is 7-3.

  • SG/SF Wesley Matthews (thigh) questionable

Timberwolves at Bucks: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 9 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Bucks 123, Timberwolves 101

Moneyline (ML)

PASS. The Bucks (-2000) are way too chalky. One must wager $20 just to profit $1 on the Bucks ML. That’s not smart betting. The Timberwolves are +1000, which is tempting, but they’re not winning here. Especially not as shorthanded as they are.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The BUCKS (-16.5, -115) are costly. You might want to hold off and double-check to make sure Antetokounmpo is active and not being rested for any reason. He is expected to play, but it’s a holiday, it’s a poor opponent where he isn’t necessarily needed to win, etc. … Be careful.

The Timberwolves (+16.5, -106) would have had a difficult time anyway, but they’re going to be shorthanded with at least a couple of key players, joining Towns in street clothes. Not good.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to the UNDER 226.5 (+105), especially with Towns and Wiggins on the mend for the Wolves. If Antetokounmpo is rested for some reason, the bottom should cash rather easily.

Watch: Pat Connaughton Posterizes the Chicago Bulls

What you need to know is that the owners of the best record in the NBA right now are the team that employs that one former Notre Dame cager.

Coincidence?

I think not.

You may or may not be aware that there is currently one former Notre Dame basketball player on an active NBA roster.

What you need to know is that the owners of the best record in the NBA right now are the team that employs that one former Notre Dame cager.

Coincidence?

I think not.

Pat Connaughton was an absolute beast for Mike Brey’s Fighting Irish, starting the second half of the season his freshman year and never looking back.

As you remember he was a very-key piece on the 2014-15 ACC Tournament Champion team that went to the Elite Eight and nearly knocked off unbeaten Kentucky and with a Final Four bid on the line.

Connaughton decided to follow the NBA route after the Portland Trail Blazers drafted him in 2015, opting for basketball instead of baseball where the Baltimore Orioles selected him previously as a pitcher.

Connaughton is still in the league and playing for the Milwaukee Bucks where he’s averaging over 17 minutes per game this season.

His biggest highlight to date in a Bucks uniform came Monday night as he did his best Vince Carter impression against the Chicago Bulls.

The Bucks wound up winning the contest 123-102 to improve their league-best record to 30-5.

LeBron James and NBA Twitter are demanding the league bring Christmas jerseys back

Do better, Nike.

The NBA on Christmas day is tradition in the sports world at this point. Part of that tradition, once upon a time, was the Christmas day jerseys players would wear — something the NBA started in 2012.

Since 2017, they’ve been gone. Once again, the NBA doesn’t have a special Christmas day jersey for the teams playing in their marquee matchups.

The Christmas jerseys were part of an initiative from Adidas when they were still the NBA’s official jersey retailer. The partnership between the two sides dissolved in 2017 and Nike took over. After that, Christmas day jerseys were done.

Now people want them back. Basketball Twitter went off today when they realized the league wasn’t trotting out new Christmas jerseys for the third year in a row.

And it’s not just the common folk of basketball Twitter that want these back. It’s also LeBron James — you know, just Nike’s most high profile athlete.

That’s….not a good look.

It’s not surprising that people are reacting this way. As corny as the jerseys were at times — and, trust me, they were — they still became a major part of the NBA’s Christmas day presentation.

They weren’t just simple jerseys. They were a signal that this was the NBA’s day.  Christmas has always been the day that America tunes in to watch basketball and basketball alone. The league’s job is to give them something to remember. A normal jersey doesn’t do that.

And it’s not like this is something Nike isn’t aware of. There’s really no excuse. They make enough jerseys between the league’s home, away and city edition gear.

If they can do all that, creating a Christmas day theme should theoretically be a breeze. The Christmas day jerseys weren’t always loved, but the effort was always appreciated — even when we made fun of them sometimes as a basketball viewing public.

People remember those sleeved, all-red Heat jerseys from 2013 or all the jerseys with the player’s first in 2014 for better or worse. Either way, they were part of a moment.

Giannis Antetokounmpo in a normal Bucks jersey is cool, or whatever, but it isn’t special. Hopefully, next year, they finally give us something that is.

Prediction

Bucks 119, 76ers 112

Moneyline (ML)

The BUCKS (-154) have experienced defeat just four times this season, home to the Miami Heat (Oct. 26), at the Boston Celtics (Oct. 30), at the Utah Jazz (Nov. 8) and home to the Dallas Mavericks (Dec. 16). In other words, not very frequently. This will be the first of four meetings between these Eastern Conference combatants, and I am just not feeling the 76ers (+125) even at plus-money on their own floor.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Bucks to win outright returns a profit of $6.49.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The BUCKS (-3.5, +100) are a bit better of a bargain against the spread rather than on the moneyline, costing you much less juice. Budding superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo lit up the 76ers (+3.5, -121) like a Christmas tree last season, averaging 43.0 points, 15.7 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 3.0 blocked shots and 1.3 steals per game in three meetings. That’s just ridiculous production.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 221.5 (+105) shouldn’t be an issue for this mid-afternoon affair. The Over is 5-0 in Milwaukee’s past five against winning sides, and 24-11 in the past 35 when working on two or more days of rest. The Over is also 5-0 in the past five meetings, and 5-2 in the past seven in Philly. The Over has connected in each of the past four for the Sixers, too, while going 4-0 in their past four at home and 5-0 in the past five against winning sides.

Prediction

Bucks 127, Knicks 107

Moneyline (ML)

The Bucks (-1112) are going to win this one, and win it handily. However, you can’t risk more than 11 times your return. You just can’t! Don’t do it! The Knicks are +650 by the way.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Bucks to win outright returns a profit of just $0.90. Every $11.12 wagered on the Milwaukee ML would profit just $1 if the Bucks prevail.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The BUCKS (-12.5, -115) have cashed in eight of their past 10 games overall, while going 8-2 ATS in the past 10 as a favorite and 6-0 ATS in the past six against teams with a losing overall mark. The last time these teams met in Cream City it was a 132-88 Bucks whitewashing of the Knicks, easily covering a 16.5-point number.

The Knicks (+12.5, -106) are playing on no rest, and that usually doesn’t work out. New York is 2-5 ATS in the past seven on zero rest, while going 12-25 ATS in the past 37 as a home underdog.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 226.5 (-115) is a strong play at plus-money. The over is 4-1 in Milwaukee’s past five overall, and 11-5-1 in the past 17 as a road favorite. The over is 4-1 in New York’s past five games overall, too.
